Angel Dust Confirm New Singer
German power metallers ANGEL DUST have recruited ex-EVERFLOW vocalist Carsten Kaiser as the replacement for the band's previous singer, Dirk Thurisch. As a result of this lineup change, the recordings for the group's new album have been pushed back to March 2006. According to guitarist Bernd Aufermann (RUNNING WILD), the new material will be a return to the sound on ANGEL DUST's "Enlighten the Darkness" album (released in 2000). "I'm VERY satisfied with the way the guitar will approach in the music and the material is, in my opinion, the best we'd ever written," Bernd wrote in a recent online posting. A tentative late summer 2006 release is expected.
ANGEL DUST's most recent album, "Of Human Bondage", came out in 2002.

Codeseven Go On Hiatus
North Carolina's Codeseven have gone on hiatus (possibly permanent) after ten years together and four albums. The group has issued a lengthy statement:
"Codeseven is celebrating its 10th anniversary! Literally weeks after the oldest members graduated highschool in 1995 the band was formed and has never looked back. Well, not until recently anyway. Unfortunately with this milestone comes some news which we are not excited to tell you about. Codeseven has collectively decided to go on indefinite hiatus. The band is not breaking up but have no plans for touring or writing and will not be making any music for some time.
Yes, there is a possibility that the five of us may never play Codeseven songs together ever again but I am optimistic. We are all still very good friends and still hangout all the time. We are also still very passionate about music and the music we've created over the years. Some of you may be asking well why are you taking a break? The majority of all bands split due to personal or creative differances but neither is the case for us!
Well, over the past few years Codeseven has had some amazing opportunities enabling us to become a full-time band. With a fulltime schedule means the majority of your money is coming from the road. Yes he said it, money! Probably the most unfortunate of all reasons for a band to split, has crippled us. When you start a band the best advice you get is play whenever or wherever you can. Do it for free or drive 10 hours for one show, just do it for the exposure and experiance. Its great advice and it worked for us. It got us our dream which was to tour full time but by that time we had already spent many years sacrificing and putting everything on hold to achieve it. We knew if it didn't work then the future of the band would be up in the air. More...

Over the next few weeks the band will enter the studio with Tapio Pennanen to record the disc, which is tentatively scheduled for release on March 28, 2006. Tracks will likely include "Cancer," "KUT" "and "Contempt." The band's last studio album was All That You Fear, which came out in 2003.
The Sword Fight To Get Album Released
When J.D. Cronise, guitarist and singer for Austin, Texas, sludge band the Sword, formed the band two years ago, he did some research on the name first. He found it hard to believe that no one else had taken the moniker yet, one he says he thought "would be badass." But that's when things started getting tricky.
"There's another band called Sword from our old stomping grounds of Richmond, Virginia, and we're cool with them," he explained, adding that there are other bands who have also chosen the name without the "the." There was also a Canadian metal band called Sword that was founded by brothers Mick and Dan Hughes during the 1980s; their last album was released in 1988 through Roadrunner Records.
Cronise admitted that "We've got a little opposition from some people" over the use of the name, "and we're trying to work it out." He said there's been no legal action filed yet, but the Sword are hoping "it doesn't come to that." And in his opinion, it shouldn't. "It's just silly, really," he explained. "There's not a band called the Sword."
But possible litigation's the least of the Sword's worries — they've got to make sure their self-titled, self-produced debut disc surfaces on February 14 as planned. The band's label, Kemado — which signed the Sword after Lamb of God guitarist Mark Morton floated the four-piece's demo its way — has pushed the album back a few times, Cronise said. The LP will contain nine tracks, including "Celestial Crown," "Freya," "Iron Swan," "March of the Lor" and "Ebethron." The Sword are hoping there won't be any more setbacks, because they're anxious to hit the road; the band, whose sound's reminiscent of early Clutch crossed with Mastodon, has no definitive touring plans yet. The Sword have logged miles with ... And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead.
Cronise said the Sword — which also includes guitarist Kyle Shutt, bassist Bryan Richie and drummer Trivett Wingo — were not inspired by Mastodon, but admits the two bands have a similar style.
"As far as the writing of the songs on this record, I hadn't really listened to them much at that point, and I think maybe even as they were getting bigger, I made a conscious effort to not listen to them for a while, because I knew what I was trying to do was kind of along the same lines as what they were trying to do," he explained. "So I didn't want to hear too many of their riffs. I didn't want them sneaking into our album. What I'm trying to do with our music is not to make it palatable or poppy, but to make it listenable. It still tries to be aggressive and heavy and huge-sounding and, like, an experience to listen to, but not something where it's like, you can only take so much before you have to turn it off because it's all screaming or all blast beats. We all of course look back to the glory days when there were awesome bands on majors."

Freya Finish Writing Songs, Give More Updates
Freya, consisting largely of ex-Earth Crisis members, has issued an update:
It's been a busy time for Freya. Dennis Merrick, formerly of EXC, has joined us and played his first show in Ogdensburg NY. The band sounds stronger than ever. We had a great response and are looking forward to playing there again next year. We had some awesome shows with If Hope Dies, Enough is Enough, Yesterday Tomorrow, and Number 2. Look for some show dates with freya and If Hope Dies this winter/spring.
Karl just got back froma tour with A Perfect Murder where he filled in on vocals. They toured throughout Quebec and Ontario with Tears From the Sky. Karl had a great time with APM and is thankful for all the kind words from the fans he met up there. While in Canada he met with Mercedes from Kittie. Her company, Poison Black, Now sponsors Freya as well as Motive Clothing Company and Eblood from Europe.
Straight edge legends Damnation will be recording in the next couple of months, and Karl will be doing some guest vocals with Mike DC. Earth Crisis toured the States with them back in the day and we had an awesome time together. Erick has recently recorded the former members of American Nightmare's new band as well as White Out and The Unholy.
This winter PETA2 will be having a benefit festival in Boston. So far the roster is Shadows Fall, First Blood, and Freya. The Struggle to Survive video we did with them has recently reached its 100,000 mark and is going into its second print this month.
We are finishing writing songs for the new album and will tour after "Lift the Curse" is released.

Arch Enemy Guitarist Recap Japanese Tour
Arch Enemy guitarist Michael Amott has posted this message on the band's website:
"We arrived yesterday in sunny Brisbane, Australia…been catching up on sleep and going for walks around the area. Breath taking scenery…
"I guess it’s time for a recap on the Japanese tour we’ve just completed?
"We played 6 shows on our Japan tour and it really was a case of yet another Japanese Arch Enemy extravaganza! We had a blast!
"This was my 16th visit to Japan since 1997 (that’s counting promotional trips and 3 Spiritual Beggars tours) – I am a lucky bastard…I love Japan and I love my life! Ha!
"We enjoyed all the shows – although the extra show that was added at the end of the tour in Tokyo was probably the most intense, the crowd was close to us and the energy in the room was strong! We added “Hybrids Of Steel” to the setlist towards the end of the Japan tour and I am expecting it to stay in for the rest of the year, as it is so much fun to play!
"So many people to thank for the very smooth and highly enjoyable tour…
Firstly, I would like to thank all our wonderful Japanese fans for coming out to the shows in such large numbers (more fans this time in Tokyo and Osaka than last year!) and supporting us so LOUDLY and with such BIG hearts! Very cool… You guys make it worth the long trip and jet lag fatigue - every time! Domo Arigato!!!
"It was great to see that our new guitarist Fredrik Akesson was so warmly received by the Japanese Arch Enemy fans… More...

Motorhead's Lemmy: Just Say No To Drugs
Motorhead front man Lemmy Kilminster is joining forces with a conservative British politician to preach the dangers of drugs.
The heavy-metal wild man is working with William Graham of the conservative Tory party to tell head-bangers to just say no. The collaboration comes after Graham heard Lemmy preach his hatred of heroin in a documentary about his band.
Graham, knowing the power of a rock icon, hopes the anti-drug message carries more weight when delivered from a rock icon
