Cradle of Filth Record Covers, New Album
Cradle of Filth have spent the last month toiling the days away inside Lincolnshire, England's Chapel Studios, working on what will be the band's seventh LP — which is being slated for an early June release through Roadrunner Records. Before Cradle of Filth began working on the as-yet-untitled outing, frontman Dani Filth said the band recorded a cover of Samhain's "Halloween II," which will appear on the soundtrack to the forthcoming film "Underworld: Evolution." When the new disc arrives in stores, fans will hear two very interesting covers the Filth's been perfecting: U.K. techno-pop trio Heaven 17's "Temptation" and "Stay" by Shakespear's Sister.
"We picked those because they are interesting," Filth said. "It's going to be a challenge, and that's the whole point. If you're going to do something, don't just do it for the sake of doing it. It has to be something you can make your own."
The band's reunited with Rob Caggiano (Bleeding Through, Anthrax), who produced 2004's Nymphetamine and 2003's Damnation and a Day, and at this point in the process, Filth said "all the drum and bass tracks are pretty much done, and I've already started recording vocals." The Filth will work on the album until the end of the month before breaking for a two-week U.K. tour; they'll reconvene on the sessions in mid-January.
The album, he said, will end up containing about 10 tracks, including "Libertina Grim," "Lovesick for Mina," "The Byronic Man" and "Cemetery and Sundown."
"This record heightens our rhythm, and there are lots of cool off-beats. It's just as meandering as much of our stuff, but there are also some really catchy tracks there," Filth said. "I've introduced more sing-y type parts. It's a bigger, better-sounding Cradle of Filth, and more direct and to the point."
The band's DVD, "Peace Through Superior Firepower," which hits stores November 22, features Filth's #1 fan, Bam Margera, skating and causing his usual mayhem at the start of the "Postcards From Vulgaria" documentary. And Filth says he caught some slack from his peers for the move, as he does for the whole Margera connection. His response? "I just say, 'F--- you. We'll choose our bloody friends. I get on well with the guy — so what?' "

Candlemass Bassist Checks In From The Road
CANDLEMASS mainman/bassist Leif Edling has posted the following message on the band's official web site:
"We still live and breathe after a week on the road [with German thrashers DESTRUCTION]. It's been good and a bit bad too.
"The bad things first: Had to cancel two shows: Oslo (Norway) and Oulu (Finland). Oslo because of shitty ticket sales. The presale was 250 tickets 5 days before [the gig] at a place that holds 1,800. So maybe the advance could have been 300 in the end and 500 people would [have] attend[ed] in all. Not too bad, but at the Centrum it would be [bad], because of the size of the place. And Rockefeller, the main (and great club) 500 people would be totally cool, but it was booked for something else that day. We always get good crowds in Oslo, and we love to play there so this was very disappointing. More...

Bam Margera To Launch Viva La Bands Tour
MTV.com reports that, on Saturday in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Bam Margera will launch his Viva la Bands Tour, a five-date, four-city jaunt featuring Bam-approved acts H.I.M., Finch, Skindred and Fireball Ministry. It's an idea he came up with earlier this year when he was putting the finishing touches on his Viva la Bands compilation, and he's determined to take it from a tiny traveling show to a summertime rock behemoth.
"Basically we had such good response from the album and all the music we were playing on 'Viva la Bam' that people were like, 'Why don't you just put a tour together?' " Margera said. "So we decided to throw something together. It's just small right now, but depending on how these shows go, we're planning on rolling out a much bigger tour sometime this summer."
But with a summertime schedule already glutted with multi-band rock-and-roll tours, how does Margera plan on carving his own little niche? Well, for starters, his outing is going to be heavy on the "Jackass"-style antics that made him a household name in the first place.
"We're actually going to be playing never-before-seen 'Jackass'-style footage in between each band. And the whole cast of 'Viva la Bam' will be showing up. Don Vito and my parents and DiCamillo are going to be there," he said. "We're going to have acts like H.I.M. or CKY or Cradle of Filth on the tour. Maybe we'll get My Chemical Romance or Avenged Sevenfold to be on it too, because I'm friends with all those guys. It's going to be a big rock tour, and we're going to be coming after Ozzfest and the Warped Tour."
For now, though, Margera is mainly focusing on the tour's trial run. But he's also keeping his portfolio diverse, with a second musical compilation in the works, not to mention two films ("The Dream Seller" and "A Good Man's Ass") and an animated show based on his exploits in his hometown of West Chester, Pennsylvania.
"There's no stopping, man. I'm always working in a triangle. Like, I'll direct a video for my friend's band, and then I'll start working on a movie script or something," Margera said. "So if this whole music thing doesn't work out ... I'll have something to fall back on."
