Metallica Review, Photos From Rolling Stones Show
METALLICA's official web site has been updated with the following "review" of the band's performance last night (Nov. 13) as the support act for THE ROLLING STONES at SBC Park in San Francisco, California:
"It seems like a long year ago that METALLICA left the stage in San Jose to enjoy their personal lives and families. Well, the band finally returned after that year long absence to answer a higher calling. What was that higher calling, you ask? Well, when THE ROLLING STONES come knocking on your door I think it's safe to say that a calling like that is enough to interrupt your vacation, or solitude, or whatever you'd like to call it.
"As the breeze blew off of the Bay Sunday night, that familiar sound of 'Ecstasy of Gold' rang through the PA, despite the fact that the lights were on. I must say... personally, it doesn't have the same effect with the lights on but, after half of 'Ecstasy' they finally killed the lights and all was grand. Much debate has raged on the METALLICA Message Boards about what the band would be playing or what they would be opening up with. Well, no one would have guessed what we were about to be greeted with... when an oddly sounding bass started ringing through the stadium followed by a slow drum beat. Of course, only the die-hard's would know... but opening with 'Orion' was a truly awesome sight. They played the first half of the song which has never been played live before, despite what a certain Danish drummer might have said. More...
Deicide's Glen Benton on BBC2 Documentary
Deicide frontman Glen Benton will feature in an hour long BBC documentary called Death Metal Murders (part of the acclaimed 'This World' series), which explores link between Heavy Metal music (specifically Death and Black Metal) and Satanism and murder. The show will air at 9pm (GMT), Thursday 24th November on BBC2.
Of the young heavy metal fans pictured, three are now dead; four are on trial charged with murder; one is serving 19 years; two more of their friends are serving long prison sentences. They were called the Beasts of Satan and their story has gripped Italy for more than a year. With unique access to them and their families, as well as graphic police footage, This World asks - how much did their addiction to satanic Death Metal music influence their descent into torture, sacrifices and murder? The film also travels around the world, from Milan to Oslo to California, investigating the bizarre underground scene that is Extreme Metal music. We interview the extraordinary musicians from Glen Benton of Deicide (who has an upside down cross branded into his forehead) and Necrobutcher of Norwegian Black Metal band Mayhem, to a Capuchin monk who struts the stage of a Metal festival in Northern Italy roaring out Heavy Metal songs, to self-confessed Swedish Satanists Dissection.
"Bleeding on your knees/ My satisfaction is what I need/ The urge to take my fist/ And violate every orifice/ You're nothing/ Beaten into submission/ Raping again and again." These are the lyrics of Sex. Murder. Art. - a 1995 track by American band Slayer, who have sold millions of albums around the world. They and other Death Metal bands sing about rape, torture, necrophilia, murder and Satanism. Over the years, this type of music has been blamed for driving teenage boys to murder and suicide. The parents of Elyse Marie Pahler took Slayer to a California court in a failed attempt to ban the sale of this kind of music to children, after their daughter was murdered by Slayer fans obsessed with Satanism.
"No-one can contradict me when I say that Heavy Metal and Satanism are closely linked. They go hand in hand, they're inseparable. I say this without the shadow of a doubt," says Michele Tollis, father of Fabio, who was murdered in a Satanic ritual by the Beasts of Satan sect in Italy. Michele has become something of an expert in the genre, having attended more than 80 Heavy Metal concerts during a six year search for his son which culminated in the discovery of the body last year. Dissection Bassist Haakon Forwald Leaves The Band
Reunited Swedish death/black metallers DISSECTION have posted the following message on their official website:
"As a result of bassist Haakon Forwald's family situation back home in Norway and his initiatory work with the Norwegian cell division of the Misanthropic Luciferian Order (MLO) it has been decided that Forwald will step back from the position as DISSECTION's bass player in order to focus on his esoteric and exoteric work in Norway. DISSECTION wish Forwald the best of luck on the path to anti-cosmic gnosis and thank him for his time with the band.
This will not affect the two upcoming shows in Sweden and Germany booked for December and January where DISSECTION for the last time ever will perform a set based solely on the old albums!
Bass player candidates already exist and are currently being tried out in rehearsals!"

Drowningman Band Update
Drowningman vocalist Simon Brody has issued the following band update:
"Drowningman will be taking the rest of the year off to write and regroup. Their appearances on the recent 'Love On The Rocks Tour' were cut short due to family emergencies/illnesses among members of the band. Several members will not be returning to Drowningman due to new familial responsibilities (Congratulations). We will also be taking this time to find a permenant drummer rather than share Dave Joyal's notable drum skills with Silent Drive and spread either band too thin. Josh Parent, will be rejoining the band. He was recently found crawling from a ditch somewhere in Iowa after being reported missing during The Drowningman/Darkest Hour Tour of 2002. The band has already been approached by several potential replacements on drums but would consider any candidate for a try-out who is creative, able to collaborate in a group and voice their opinions, is tour worthy and does not think Drowningman is a metal band. Similarly we are looking for a guitarist song-writer who is familiar with Drowningman's past but also likes stuff like Swing Kids, Orchid, Doves, Rorschach, SDRE, ATDI, Drive Like Jehu and is aware that Drowningman is not a mosh band (but we do like to rock a breakdown here and there if it's cleverly done). As always drop us a line and point us in a direction of where we can hear your work - simonbyronbrody@hotmail.com. Note we are also located in NYC now and are hoping to write a record far superior to our most recent auditorally (did I make that up?) troubled LP."

American Head Charge Cancel Remaining Tour Dates
AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE have cancelled three weeks' worth of dates on their current tour following their Nov. 13 performance in Atlanta. The group's next appearance will take place on December 8 in Omaha, Nebraska. A statement from the band is expected soon.
As previously reported, AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE will be teaming up with SOIL and PANIC CELL for a European tour beginning in late January.
AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE's rescheduled benefit show for the family of former AHC guitarist Bryan Ottoson — who died in April from a prescription drug overdose while the group was on tour with MUDVAYNE — took place on October 7 at First Ave. in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
