Mayhem Frontman To Perform With Salem In Israel

MAYHEM frontman Attila Csihar (formerly of TORMENTOR, ABORYM) will join Israeli extreme metal pioneers SALEM for a special one-off performance on December 27 at Theater Club in Tel Aviv, Israel. Also appearing with the band will be the female ICSQ string quartet.

SALEM's appearance at the Theater Club comes after a 16-month absence from the stage, during which time the band recorded and released the "Strings Attached" CD, which combines between SALEM songs and dark classical music.

Tickets for the concert are available online through Metalist magazine's web site.

MAYHEM have set "Ordo Ab Chao" as the title of their new album, tentatively due in early 2006 via Season of Mist. The band's upcoming CD will mark their first release with vocalist Csihar since their 1993 album, "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas". Csihar joined MAYHEM in November 2004 as the replacement for departed singer Maniac (real name Sven Erik Kristiansen).

My Reply Breaks Up After Guitarist Leaves

My Reply has decided to call it quits after their guitarist notified them he was leaving. Here is the statement from the band:

"It’s a real old-school thing to just do a demo tape and a 7inch and then call it quits, but believe me that’s not what we where planning to do. Our guitar player decided he wanted to quit the band for several reasons. Although his timing couldn’t be any worse we respect his decision and wish him all the best!! Look out for some moshy tunes from this guy in the near future (he’s got the looks and the skills to do so……and the Staubsauger!)"

"Anyway we had a great time these last 2 years, released a demo and a 7inch, played some really cool shows, shared stages with all our favourite Old-school HC/THRASH bands and meet some of the coolest people on the way………not bad for a crappy band!"

"A special “thank you” goes out to all our friends, people that booked us, distro’s, bands we played with (especially THE SHINING and THE ITALION STALLION) and everybody who cares…"

She Said Destroy Complete Work On Debut Album

Guitarist Anders "Ugmod" Bakke of the Norwegian extreme metal thrashers SHE SAID DESTROY has posted the following message on the group's web site:

"Our [debut] record is finally finished. We were in Stockholm and mastered it at Peter In de Betou's Tailor Maid studio this week. This guy has worked with MESHUGGAH, NASUM, DARK FUNERAL and more, and he had gold and platinum TRAZAN & BANARNE records hanging on his wall. Legend. Now we're just waiting for the artwork to be finished, courtesy of Trine & Kim. Can't wait to see what they've come up with. Be sure to check out their earlier work on this website: www.trineogkim.no. We'll get back to you with a tentative release date soon.

"Don't forget that we’re playing in Tønsberg at Rivals Pub with labelmates MINDGRINDER on Dec 16. This evening will kick off the Hammerslag Festival that takes place on Dec 17. It might be that we get to play a show outside of Norway in late December, but since it hasn’t been confirmed yet I'll have to hold back the announcement.

"Just went to see [the Canadian heavy metal documentary] 'Metal: A Headbanger's Journey' yesterday. It was a real cool documentary and I recommend that you all go see it or buy it when it comes out on DVD (I believe DVD will have shitloads of extras). Finally a documentary that touches upon most things metal in 1.5 hours in a reflective manner.

"After the screening I had a chat with Sam Dunn and Scott McFadyen who've made the movie. Nice dudes. Check out their website for info on where you can see the film: www.metalhistory.com." More...

Suicidal Tendencies Singer to Undergo Back Surgery

SUICIDAL TENDENCIES have issued the following statement:

"Unfortunately the band has had to cancel the Brasilian festival dates and all the plans for 2006 are on hold again as Mike Muir [vocals] had to have another back surgery this week. Obviously this is a big setback for the band and Mike personally, but he is now out of the hospital and the long process of recovery/rehab starts all over again. The band was just getting rollin again and all was looking good, but there's really nothing we can do at this time.

"There'll be another [statement] when Mike is feeling better, but in the meantime, thanks for all the people that were at the Rock Al Parque festival in Colombia and all the Cycos that showed up to the Grand Olympic Auditorium last month to make it a special event. Everyone was looking forward to going back to Brasil and then finishing the new ST CD, and getting back out on a world tour next year, but we'll now have to wait and see how everything goes with the rehab.

"Thanks again to all those that have supported ST in the past and that will in the future.

Emperor Announce Two U.S. Shows

Candlelight Records today confirms two American shows for legendary black metal band, EMPEROR. The announcement follows recent confirmations of European shows that the band will perform in 2006.

EMPEROR, featuring vocalist/guitarist Ihsahn, guitarist Samoth, and drummer Trym, disbanded prior to release of their 2001 album "Prometheus: The Discipline of Fire & Demise". The record, an essential release for Candlelight's first year of US operations, remains one of the label's top selling US releases. In late 2004, Candlelight reissued each of Emperor's four genre-defining albums - "Wrath of the Tyrants", "In the Nightside Eclipse", "Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk" and "IX Equilibrium". Each album reworked with additional bonus footage and material unavailable previously on both European and US-licensed versions.

"Wrath of the Tyrants," being part one, "includes very rare, exclusive footage of pre-Nightside rehearsals plus live outtakes from our first tour (in support of CRADLE OF FILTH, 1993)," says guitarist Samoth. "In the Nightside Eclipse," part two, "includes edited material from a live show in Oslo for the song "Towards the Pantheon," as well as various other clips from live recordings in 1997."

Forming in 1991, EMPEROR recordings have sold hundreds of thousands worldwide. Their impact on black/extreme metal ranks them as one of the genre's most influential. Respected by musician, fan and critic alike, EMPEROR recorded their final album, "Prometheus: The Discipline of Fire & Demise", in 2001, shortly thereafter announcing they were disbanding (with Samoth and Trym continuing on in new band ZYKLON; Ihsahn contributing to his ongoing band project PECCATUM). Kerrang's Dom Lawson called Prometheus, "a staggering masterwork; a fitting testament to the musical genius."

Confirmed shows are noted below. Information regarding ticket on sale dates will follow.

July 14 - New York, NY @ B.B. Kings Blues Club
July 16 - Los Angeles, CA @ Key Club

New Celtic Frost Album Update, World Tour Plans

Four years in the making, the new CELTIC FROST album, 'Dark Matter Manifest', is promising a return to the ground breaking experimentalisation and attitude of its infamous predecessors. Talking with Garry Sharpe-Young, band leader Tom Fischer revealed that not only will the music be "as heavy and as radical as ever" but that the band are projecting a major tour to coincide.

"Our agents is booking shows left and right for this record. We want to be on tour for a long time and we aim to visit a lot of countries that CELTIC FROST never made it to before" said Fischer.

Watch out for special shows too. "We plan to film one or two shows with more instruments than a normal concert. I know that METALLICA have defined this but CELTIC FROST in recent years was doing this 20 years ago so now it's time to reproduce a lot of the songs we could never have played live before. Now the band can play every song from every album."

Tom also revealed that the APOLLYON SUN project is not over, but merely on ice and that he plans a solo album. "Martin (Ain) listened to the demos and has described it as CELTIC FROST played by synthesizers" he states. "I'm recording it with a female bass player. It's very advanced, kind of Dark Wave / Electro. Like THE SISTERS OF MERCY or DEPECHE MODE but very, very dark."
