Apocalypse Now Signs To GSR

GSR Music has announced the signing of their first French band, Apocalypse Now. Apocalypse Now is about to finish recording their new album, "Confrontation with God," for which a release date for early 2006 will be set within the next weeks.

The creation of Apocalypse Now was one of the usual ways that bands get together and started through friendship, fun and a love for loud rock music whether it is in the form of Hardcore or Metal. Based in Paris, the band started out like most bands by getting together and rehearsing in a garage where the band would take two of their favourite genres of heavy music, NYHC and Thrash metal and fuse them together to generate a truly colossal sound that spits venom and aggression.

Under the original name of Forest In Blood, the band soon started playing shows to packed crowds in Paris and the surrounding suburbs where their name spread like wildfire which led to the band releasing a MCD as the demand for their music grew.

After 2 years of hard work destroying HC and Metal crowds all over France and building a strong base of dedicated followers, the band still under the name Forest In Blood, released the album "What A Wonderful World" which was distributed through Overcome Records. With a live show that was intense and crushing and a new album that had evolved to new extremes the band set about touring and playing shows with the likes of Napalm Death, Madball, Anthrax, Hatebreed, Born From Pain and many more and delivered devastating performances all over France, Belgium and Poland. With newfound fans and with a hard work ethic, the band found themselves to be at the forefront of the underground Metal and Hardcore scenes in France and with fans loyal to them around Europe their name and status rose to a new level.

With the addition of some new members, the band felt that a name change would be appropriate and are now known as Apocalypse Now, although the music has not changed and the attitude and intensity is the same, as the band prepare to unleash their debut album for Dutch HC label GSR. With a stronger sound than ever before, their album titled "Confrontation With God" is 10 anthems of destructive and powerful Thrash Metal with NYHC influences, which surpass their previous work and only increase the crushing force that they had delivered before as the songwriting has evolved and matured.

xArmed For Battlex Are Attacked and Robbed

xArmed For Battlex were reportedly attacked in Oakland this week. Lambgoat have reported the following, although nothing is confirmed at this point:

"Some friends of mine in Armed For Battle were jumped in Oakland a few days ago when they went to record there upcoming CD. A large group of kids Maced them outside of the studio and beat them with bats and other weapons. They were all hospitalized (broken rips, fractured skull, internal bleeding was some of the damage done) and everything they had was stolen including their equipment and wallets. Here's an update from them.

Update: We all are doing good, our guitarist left the hospital this morning and he's walking/talking again...he had a skull fracture and needed a metal plate in his head but for the rest of us it's just staples in the head and alot of bruises and welts...

We are suddenly flooded with emails so we apologize if we cant write back, but we do thank you and everyone for their halp and support through this fucking coward bullshit. More...

Darkane Check In From The Road

DARKANE are currently treading on U.S. soil for the first time, joined by FEAR FACTORY, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD and SOILWORK. Guitarist Christofer Malmström posted the following update from the band's North American tour:

"Today we´re in Milwaukee, WI. Been doing four shows so far, so only 29 to go! The audience has been really great so far! I´m surprised that so many people have shown up for the opening act... something that is not taken for granted when you open up in Europe.

Two days ago we were in Chicago. The first thing we did was to take a walk in that beautiful city to the Sears Tower, the tallest building in the US. The view was fantastic! We also took a group photo with this green screen where they put the tower in the background if you buy the pic. We´ll see if we can scan it and put it up here. When returning to the House of Blues we suddenly found ourself in one of the VIP opera boxes in the balcony at a gospel concert! For five Swedes that was a really cool experience!

Voivod Manager Leaves Personal Note To Piggy

Voivod's manager, James MacLean, posted this personal tribute to guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour, who passed away on August 26th:

"The death of Denis D'Amour was a tragedy. Piggy truly lived for his music. He was easy going yet focused, never complained and never wanted to be a burden on anyone, he just wanted to write music and play his guitar. He seemed shy to most but really wasn't, he was funny and loved life. We celebrated his life at a memorial held in Montreal and it was a cool laid back affair, just like Piggy. His family, friends, musicians and industry all came together to remember how much of an impact he made on us all. Some of his original gear as well as rebuilt custom guitars were on display as well as great photo's, video's and tour footage while his favourite music from his record collection played in the background all night.

"Thank you Trish, Michel, Julie, Gilles, Andreas, Jason, Steve, Chris, Chasse, G, Monk and to all involved, to all the well wishers and fans.

"Piggy lives on, Voivod lives on!

"James"

Photos from the memorial, which was held on October 22 in Montreal, have been posted on Voivod's website at www.voivod.com.

Voivod will release four new albums that feature Piggy. The first disc will feature the songs the band was working on at the time of Piggy's death and will be finished in December with producer Glen Robinson, mixed in January and released next year. Piggy recorded all of his parts for the record on his laptop with ProTools.

Eidolon: This'll Be The Last Record For Some Time

The following message was posted on the official Eidolon website:

"At this time, we are in the process of getting the remaining tracks recorded for the Eidolon record - Nils has just finished the vocal tracks 100% today, so we should be receiving them at the studio in Toronto in a few weeks, after editing is done in Norway. Adrian has 2 bass tracks yet to complete, which I believe will happen within 1 week - Glen has all of his guitar solos to record, which is normal procedure for us, as he likes to do his solos last. With this said, we are looking at mixing/mastering this record starting January 1st-9th. Once the record is finished, we ship it off to Escapi - I cannot reveal the release date, as I have no idea when it will be released. Sometime in 2006 is a safe bet, I assume.

"Since this will be the last Eidolon record for some time ( our priority is with MEGADETH ) we really wanted to have some musicians that we admire to play on certain tracks - As I write this, we have Hank Sherman/Michael Denner ( Mercyful Fate/Force of evil ) playing on " The Oath " which, by the way, sounds amazing!!!! Glen sent me a file of the song, via Whale Mail and it just put a big smile on my face. Glen handled the keyboard intro to the song ( we originally thought of using somebody else to record it, but nixed the idea ) it all sounds great - enough said on that.

"As well, we have Michael Romeo ( Symphony X ) doing a trade off solo with Glen on another track, and we just confirmed Kim Mitchell ( Max Webster, Kim Mitchell band ) for a trade off solo with Glen as well. I cannot express how happy I am to have Kim perform on our record, as we have been huge fans of his playing, as well as Michael Romeo - we became good friends with him during Gigantour, so this was a no-brainer, really.

"The 1 thing I will always be proud of with Eidolon, after 10 years now, is that we always did what we wanted to do, 100%, and never catered to whatever trend was happening at the time. We always made music to make US happy 1st - the fact that others like us is just icing on the cake!!! We never sold 1,000,000 record or anything like that, but we never cared about that anyways. Music was, is and will always be the #1 priority with Glen and myself."

Kamelot Getting Ready For Upcoming Tour

Kamelot guitarist Thomas Youngblood has posted this message on the band's website:

"Hello All!

"Today we begin the rehearsals for the second round of tour dates for The Black Halo. New keyboardist Oliver [Palotai of Doro, Uli Jon Roth] arrives tonight in Tampa and we will have Khan here on next week. We will add some new songs that we did not play on the last tour dates in Europe. So fans in Belgium and Holland will see a new set! I also hope to get some new pictures taken while Oliver is. The US/Canadian shows are looking more and more exciting, I have been talking with Jack Frost (Seven Witches) about it and we are going to have a monster time on stage and with all the fans! The dates in Brazil are now set for Sao Paulo and Rio and we will be shooting lots of footage for the upcoming DVD slated for Summer 2006. All the shows on this second tour will hopefully be part of the DVD and we are planning some very special surprises with this production. Norwegian Fans! We are finally coming to see you! I guess we can try some skiing this time in Trysil? Holland and Belgium will rule too, Graspop was amazing. Our friends Epica will play the Antwerp show with us. We are waiting on details regarding the French gigs in Paris and Lyon, I hope to have some news from our management this weekend on that.

"We are expecting new dates planned for the Summer festivals as well. OK, got to go, lots to do! I hope to see all of you at the shows!

"Peace,
Thomas."

Motorhead's Lemmy Calls For Legal Heroin

Motorhead frontman, Lemmy, has used an anti-drugs platform at the Welsh assembly to call for the legalisation of heroin.

He took time off from Motörhead's 30th anniversary tour to share a platform with Conservative AM William Graham on the fatal dangers of the drug.

But he said making heroin legal would allow it to be taxed and regulated and keep users away from drug dealers.

Mr Graham said Lemmy presented "alternative" views to his own, but the message was firmly against drugs.

The AM told the briefing in Cardiff Bay that that young people would listen to Lemmy more than any committee. More...
