Live Report from ProgPower VI

The weekend of September 16-17th was quite a memorable one for me. I traveled down to Atlanta, Georgia from my New Jersey home to attend ProgPower VI. This year’s ProgPower consisted of Angra headlining Friday night’s show along with Conception, Orphaned Land, Circus Maximus, and Manticora opening. Saturday’s line up consisted of Stratovarius headlining, along with Therion, Pink Cream 69, Symphorce, and Stride opening.

During my stay, I was able to interview Mati from Orphaned Land and met Mark Edwards from Overlorde. Both guys were exceptionally kind, down to earth, as well as excellent guitar players and should definitely be listened to when the opportunity arises. Though Overlorde did not play, Orphaned Land did and put on quite an amazing show. During their set I found out that one of the guys standing in front of me was so dedicated to the band, that he flew all the way from Israel, where Orphaned Land is from, just to see them! What makes Orphaned Land such a band to command this response from a fan is the fact that they are very energetic on stage, quality musicians, and are able to bring everyone at the concert together. To see Orphaned Land is its own experience in itself. No matter who plays with Orphaned Land, the show will be memorable! More...

Headline News

Former Soilent Green Vocalist Found Dead

According to a posting at NolaUnderground.com, former SOILENT GREEN vocalist Glenn Rambo was found dead his mother's home Saturday afternoon (Oct. 1). "His ex-girlfriend Stacy and some National Guardsmen went to Glenn's mom's house on Guerra Drive in Violet Louisiana [on Saturday] because Stacy had not heard from Glenn since before [Hurricane Katrina]," a friend of Glenn's by the name of Melissa writes in the posting. "They discovered the bodies of Glenn and his mom still in the house. Glenn had a broken leg, and he and his mom had no car to evacuate. If you know them you probably know that his family didn't have much money. I'm not sure where they are going to bury them, or if there are any next-of-kin that could help. Maybe we can all take up a collection to make sure that they are buried properly and have grave markers. I don't even know how to go about doing something like that. It just makes me sad to think that after we have all lost so much, we are now finding out that we have lost good friends as well. Glenn was an important part of the [New Orleans] music scene, and a good friend to many of us. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered."

Destroyer 666 To Tour Europle, Release New Tracks

Frontman K.K. Warslut of Australian black/death/thrash metallers DESTROYER 666 has posted the following message on the band's official website:

"Our hounour and respect to all those who have supported the band over the last few years. Finally a new site to clarify the rumours, statiate the curious and enthrall the devout. First off, Id like to thank and send Hails to our new webmaster L.Kaos.

Since 2004 D666 has a new bass player. Almost human Matt, (part) man behind London based Razor of Occam

We can announce that D666 will probably tour next April. We are hoping to organize a European tour along with REVENGE.

Im also working on getting D666 to Sth America. So I urge all the Sth American maniacs to send your death threats to Mutliation Records.

D666 has given permission to Hells HeadBangers label to release, later this year, the Pic. Disc version of "Cold Steel...for an Iron Age" It will come with a new revised cover, and will also come with a jacket/sleeve featuring different artwork again. This is off course important for the band. As the unsolicited artwork from the previously released CD/LP S.O.M version still ranks as one of the worst attempts at record cover design ever attempted.

This new version will feature an extra track form the "Cold Steel..." session entitled "The Dragon" and will also feature alternate versions of "The Calling" and "The Fall of Shadows".

We are currently working on a LP, featuring all D666 7" tracks. As well as 2 unreleased tracks which were originally recorded Oct.2003 as 7" to commerate that years aussie tour. Alas, I remained unsatisfied with the vocals, and the songs sat around forgotten till recently. We hope this will be of benefit for those still tormenting (me) for copies of the 7"s.
May be released Jan 2006. "

Blind Guardian Announce New Single And Tour Dates

Blind Guardian singer Hansi Kürsch has posted the following message at the band's official website:

"Hello my friends,

Although time keeps on ticking quickly, things go very well in the Guardian camp. To be more precise: we are still on schedule and even though everyone is totally busy and concentrated the atmosphere is very lifely and still relaxed to a certain extend :-) The material for the single will be accomplished at the end of November. To make that happen this particular stuff will get most of our attention for the next 4 weeks. Everyone is already involved in the recording process and we are really excited about the album ?s progression. It is too early to say when we will be finished exactly, but I would say a worldwide release in the first half of 2006 is very realistic. Things look (sound - as well) very promising. At the moment we are also getting deeper into details such as album title, cover, etc... So, we are about to scratch the most important phase of the recording session and we do not intend to leave you out ... Please, let us work on it a little longer, so we can fix things technically. You will be provided with footage, that is for sure.

Cheers,
Hansi"

"Hi Brainiacs,

Unfortunately, here's some bad news coming your way. Due to reasons beyond our control, we are not able to play the scheduled dates with Saxon in the UK as well as some other shows that are or have been (still) in the works for the next time. For all you people in South Europe and especially those that have seen some posted dates in the clubs and online already, there have also been some Brainstorm shows scheduled in Spain, France, Italy and Greece for end of October/ beginning of November, which we can not play as well. We feel totally sorry as we would have loved to play the UK together with the mighty Saxon and South Europe again for all you fantastic Brainiacs out there. We will try to re-scedule or set up new shows as soon as possible, keep on surfing by, we'll keep you updated.

Enthroned Planning New MCD

Enthroned have issued the following update:

"With the breath of our last release Black Goat Ritual still in our necks, Enthroned is already preparing a conceptual MCD! The CD will be entitled "175 years of kingdom Hell", and it will be some sort of tribute to our mighty Hellgium, which celebrates its 175st birthday this year! You can see it as a statement against all pathetic and stupid separatistic movements that are always whining about imaginary money transfers and other hilarious shit.

The CD will contain following tracks:

1. The Dark Fullmoon Rises
2. Van Saksen-Coburg (a tribute to the kings)
3. Satanising of Holy Slaves
4. Dark Forces United as One
5. Tricolor Banner of Hell
Bonus track: Hellgium Messiah (live)

Expect more info to appear on our website very soon. We hope to see you all on one of our gigs this summer! Nornagest - on behalf of Enthroned"

Thanks! Keep the metal flame burning! Nornagest"

Therion Resume North American Tour

THERION mainman Christofer Johnsson has posted the following message on the band's official web site:

"After all the sad news finally some positive news; the new tour bus is excellent, the best we've ever had actually. So we should be more than fine for the rest of the tour.

"And now a message to fans in eastern USA and Canada. Normally this would be written in 'Email from Kliffoth' [section nof the web site], but as I'm anyway at it writing some news I'll just post it here.

"We have now completed the round trip in USA/Canada and are now going back to territories where we have already been. We have therefore decided to change the set-list so that people who have already seen us play in cities like Montreal, Toronto, Worcester, NYC, Cleveland etc and is up for another round will geet to hear some 4-5 different songs. After several requests from fans we will insert among other songs 'Siren of the Woods' on the set list.

"It seems very unlikely that we would tour headline over the U.S. again (if we come back it will be in a package with other bands of some sort), so it's also likely the last possibilities to see us make a set longer than 1.5 hours over here.

"I also want to take the opportunity to thank all of you who showed up at the shows and perticulary you folks who we saw at more than one show."
