MetalUnderground.com Sponsors Hammerslag Festival

No doubt you've noticed the Hammerslag Festival logo on our home page. But now I can announce that Metalunderground.com is an official sponsor of Norway's Hammerslag Festival. The festival, which is to take place on December 16 and 17, 2005, is a two-day showcase of extreme black, death and grind metal bands. Sponsorship of the Hammerslag festival fits with Metalunderground.com's mission of promoting underground heavy metal.

The two-day extreme metal festival, in its second year, takes place in Norway's oldest city, Tønsberg (est. 871). Friday night's show will be held at Rivals Rockpub and Saturday's will in an old church built in 1857. The festival boasts more than nine confirmed bands including Tsjuder, Myrkskog, Svartahrid, Grand Alchemist, Framferd, Draugstafur, Mindgrinder, and She Said Destroy with more in negotiations.

"The Hammerslag Festival is the ideal metal festival for Metalunderground.com to announce its first sponsorship deal with," said Metalunderground.com owner Doug Gibson. "With our large American readership, there is not a more fitting genre of metal to bring to their attention than Norwegian black metal. Every reader that discovers a new metal band that they like through Metalunderground.com reinforces why I started this website in the first place."

"Promotion of this event to an American audience benefits Hammerslag Festival, the Norwegian Extreme Metal Scene, and metalheads alike," said the festival's organizer, Bjørn Almar Rolstad Johansen. "The bands as well as the experience of a black metal festival at the old church are quite special as well, considering the theme of the fest."

Tickets for the Hammerslag Festival can be purchased through Ticketmaster at http://www.ticketmaster.no/html/browse.htmI?l=EN&TOUR=HAMMER

Site Update

Metalunderground.com Upgrades Coming Soon

Metalunderground.com's readership has been growing at a decent rate and we're outgrowing our current set up. I've noticed the responsiveness of the site to be less than ideal a few times lately and want you to know that I am in the process of researching and evaluating various options for the site in the near future. Please bear with us in the meantime if the site seems a little slow now and then. (It's certainly not a problem all the time - just at peak usage times).

I'd be glad to hear your feedback on the matter as well, so feel free to leave a comment and let me know how the site speed is for you or if you've noticed any slow downs. \m/

Deicide Gets Jack Owens And Ralph Santola

Earache Records has posted the following message on DEICIDE's recent happenings:

"Things are going good." stated a good hearted Glen Benton when
asked how things were going with DEICIDE. The band has alot coming up, a tour of the UK and Europe, new band members and alot more on the horizon. Some new blood has entered DEICIDE in the form of Jack Owens (Ex-CANNIBAL CORPSE) and Ralph Santolla (Ex-DEATH, ICED EARTH). Jack and Ralph will be the new ax-wielders of the sinister DEICIDE and Glen Benton looks forward to the new lineup; "Everyone is getting along great. I'm excited to get out there and play again without any hassles," stated Benton.

When spoken to recently, Glen expressed excitement about the upcoming DEICIDE UK and European Tour. A devastatingly brutal 23 shows in 23 days spanning across the England, Ireland, and much of continental Europe, this tour promises to fulfill all the dark wishes of their European fans. DEICIDE are just about ready to be back on top and bringing their satanic metal to the masses and they start with this tour which is sure to leave Europe in rubble following the "dark mass" that occurs when DEICIDE performs.

Following the tour the band are looking forward to putting some newly written material onto record. "The new material is the heaviest shit we've ever written." said Benton, "This is sure to be heaviest record Since Legion." Along with an upcoming recording session, the band have tentative plans to tour South America come January and February which should truly spread the heart of darkness throughout the continent.

The band who set the standard for Death Metal more than a decade ago are prepared to re-write that standard for a new century and school a whole new generation on just how its done. We look forward to everything DEICIDE has to offer us in the last months of 2005 and the oncoming 2006 year.

Report on 'Dimebag' Darrell's Death Released

A new 627 page police report including nearly 300 witness interviews was released last Thursday. The report details a chaotic scene at last December's Damageplan concert, with the tour manager getting wounded as he tried to prevent a gunman from climbing on stage -- he then was helped to the side where he watched former Pantera guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott get shot in the head three times. Some clarifications from initial reports are included in the following excerpts:

Christopher Paluska, Damageplan's tour manager, said he was shot first -- though it was previously believed Abbott was the initial victim.

Paluska was one of three people shot who survived. Another, stage technician John Brooks, wrestled with Gale who pinned him as a hostage as police moved toward the stage.

During the melee, Damageplan drummer Vincent Abbott hid behind amplifiers and lead singer Patrick Lachman jumped and screamed into the microphone for someone to call the police.

Chris Cornell Q&A

Travis Hay of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer caught up with Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell and asked what the possibilities of a Soundgarden reunion were. "You know I don't know where the motivation to do so would come from and the longer we're not together I have a harder time imagining where that motivation might come from," he said. "I don't think there are too many rock bands in history that can look at the beginning and middle and ending of themselves and see what I see when I think of Soundgarden. I think from the beginning through the middle and the end it was such a perfect ride and such a perfect legacy to leave. It's almost like we sealed the lid and said this is Soundgarden and this is its lifespan and put it out there and it looks really great to me. I think getting back together would take the lid off that and then could possibly change what to up to now to me seems like the perfect lifespan of the band. I can't think of any reason to mess with that. Everyone in the band is doing other things musically and everyone in the band is very proud of Soundgarden. To answer your question, probably not."
