anyone who thinks sevendust sucks and slayer rules has a serious problem that needs to be taken outside of music. Sevendust isnt constant screaming garbage sevendust is a group of musicians with actual skill (something slayer has never seen before) wether it be the meaningful lyrics or the powerful vocals or anything sevendust is one of the best bands in music slayer is just slayer. yea slayer has had success but who can stand more than a cd. SLAYER BLOWS

Haha.. Yeah, I'm gonna have ta' go with jeffjeff on this one. I do respect Slayer and all but they don't really have anything close to what 7D has... TALENT! AND LOTS OF IT! 7D is the most unrated band out there and thats really sad cuz' in my opinion they are one of the greatest bands EVER. Fo' shizzle. Haha. PEACE YA'LL!

I also have to give Sevendust credit where it's due.
While Slayer are without a doubt among the best at what they do, they're kind of restricted to a certain sound and subject matter. Not to mention that they havent put out a record that truely impressed me in quite some time.
Sevendust are another beast entirely, this whole comparing the 2 bands is apples and oranges.
Sevendust bring in a singer who....heh....can sing but he can also roar his guts out. The lyrics certainly come from somewhere more cerebral and he has a respectable vocabulary. Sevendust have a motif and a signature style but it lacks the sameness that has plagued many of Slayers records.
Sevendust have one of the most capapble drummers in metal. Morgan Rose can also do vocals parts while playing (and is widely regarded as one of the top 20 best drummers in both rock and metal by magazines and fellow drummers).
Slayer have Sevendust beat on two things in my opinion. Guitarists and song format. Sevendust have no epic songs to speak of. Slayer have many. Sevendust can churn out some great riffs but never once have I heard a head snapping solo from them....some good ones but nothing remarkable
Which band I would listen to in a given day is pretty much based on the mood I'm in more than anything. Neither band is the better of the pair. Just two very differnt bands.

i apoloigize to any slayer fans it is inappropriate to say they blow, to an extent what remembermetal said is absolutley right. slayers type of rock just dosent happen to do it for me but they are with out doubt deserving of respect.
However any day of the week for me personally i would take sevendust over any band or any music period. looking in the past years weve seen several trends and several three to four year or even shorter fads ( punk music today, 80s rock, etc) and things like this cause great bands like green day and others to change there image or there style of music to sell records. which yea you gotta do what you gotta do but i feel thats not them staying to true to there roots which is something in my mind sevendust is best at doing.
never in music have i ever heard a band stay as true to them selves as sevendust. they are a very consistent band who know what there dedicated fans want and continue to bring it to them. And yes sure sevendust staying true to themselves wont make them sell the most records but it will make there fans more loyal than any other fans of music.
There not out there to be in a trend there out there to do what they love doing.
i think they proved that when they left tvt because they tryed to make them change there image

thanks Blackdog.
I'm already fairly certain that it is heavier, certainly more complex based on "Ugly" and the stompy track "Pieces"....Sevendust has never put out a sh**ty record, and I think label woes made the last one radio-friendly. I'm not too anxious, this is a very solid band....
Im thinking this one is going to have the sound of their second record, "Home" and the song structures of "Animosity".....I'm hoping they might even ramp up the intensity a little more now that their off of the TVT label....
We'll know in a couple weeks I guess.

it is.
Go listen to it on one of the clearchannel websites, it's very good....There lots of little things in there that take me back to aspects of their first 3 albums...Not just saying that either...
2 of the songs had vocals and guitar elements that sound very self title-ish. Overall, it has a bit of the "Home" album feel to it, but heavy and varied like "Animosity" it honestly feels like they are putting as much distance between themselves and the simplisity of "Seasons"....
Theres some mellow song, 2 if memory serves, but they are well done.....Theres a song thats has a very punchy hardcore sound to it with the vocals being mostly from Morgan Rose.....It's a very differnt but very good album....

I cant say if it's better than their first 3 albums....I've only heard it all the way through once....But yes, much better than "Seasons"....
Just the first 4 tracks show that. It's good stuff, I still think my personal favorite is "Animosity" but I'd have to give "Next" another 10 spins before I could say for sure....One thing is certain....This album is a step back into the right direction for them.

Got the new disc today, it's good. I had very high expectations after hearing "Pieces"
Remember's right though, the first 4 songs stand out. There's a couple of other good one too, but Hero Pieces Ugly and Silence are the best.
I want to see them play some of these live, they always seem to step it up at their shows, but only a couple shows scheduled for the US with Slipknot.
