Vangough Post-Impressionist Video Game Battles II

Last week, MetalUnderground.com premiered the new series we call "Vangough's Post-Impressionist Video Game Battles" in our ongoing credo of providing a wide range of entertainment to our readers - but always anchored through the love of metal music in all its forms.

The best representation of this theme is through Oklahoma City progressive metal act Vangough, which blends nearly all forms of entertainment within its fantastic form of music, including nods to classic games (see sophomore release "Game On" (see review here))

A few weeks back, vocalist Clay Withrow approached us with an idea to exclusively run a new feature series on classic video games. Armed with a very eclectic, and seemingly endless array of games in the collection, the band produces video clips of classic game battles. It is a unique and fascinating look into a form of entertainment that practically envelops nearly all in the metal world, young and old. We hope you like it! More...

Amberian Dawn Premieres Video Clip For New Single

Finnish Symphonic Metal masters Amberian Dawn teamed up with MetalUnderground.com for the premiere of the new single "I'm The One." The song is the opening track from the upcoming full length studio album "Darkness Of Eternity," set to drop on November 10th worldwide via Napalm Records.

Mastermind Tuomas Seppälä comments:"'I'm The One' was one of the latest compositions for new album. After writing a couple of softer songs in fall 2016 I got a new 'heavy wave' and probably 3 latest songs I wrote were quite heavy. The song is very hectic and pushes forward like a train. There's no solo part on this song (a solo would have been quite obvious call) Instead of that I wrote an instrumental part and an extra vocal part. Last vocal part's melody and chord pattern supporting it consists of just one really long phrase... this kind of long phrasing was typical in many classical compositions. I still haven't got rid of my roots in classical music!"

The "Magic Forest" story continues on this album and Tuomas explains: "The song 'Symphony Nr.1. Part 1 - The Witchcraft' told the story on the last record 'Innuendo' before the time of 'Magic Forest.' The little girl is a healer and village elders buried her alive in a coffin. The track 'Symphony Nr.1. Part 2 - Darkness of Eternity' on our upcoming record 'Darkness of Eternity' tells the story of the girl lying in the coffin trying to get out. Darkness is asking her to dance the waltz of eternity. The story will continue in Part 3 and we will tell you how she became the Magic Forest's evil witch!"

The track listing for "Darkness Of Eternity" is:

1. I'm The One
2. Sky Is Falling
3. Dragonflies
4. Maybe (see lyric video here)
5. Golden Coins
6. Luna My Darling
7. Abyss
8. Ghostwoman
9. Breathe Again
10. Symphony Nr. 1 part 2 - Darkness Of Eternity

Vangough Post-Impressionist Video Game Battles I

MetalUnderground.com has always been about providing the full breadth of entertainment to our readers. Music stands at the crossroads of so many other forms of entertainment and is a unifying force that binds, whether it blends in art, history, literature, motion pictures, or in this case video games.

Oklahoma City progressive metal act Vangough blends nearly all forms of entertainment within its fantastic form of music, including nods to classic games. Take its 2010 sophomore release "Game On" (see review here), in which the band did an instrumental tribute to 25 years of gaming music.

Vocalist Clay Withrow approached us with an idea to exclusively run a new feature series on classic video games. You see, Clay and the guys fancy themselves video game connoisseurs, akin to beer snobbery, but with consoles. Armed with an eclectic, and seemingly endless array of games in the collection, the band produces video clips of classic game battles. It is a unique and fascinating look into a form of entertainment that practically envelops nearly all in the metal world, young and old. More...

Stahlsarg Premieres New Song "Blonde Poison"

U.K. based black/death metal act Stahlsarg will be releasing the sophomore full length album "Mechanisms of Misanthropy" on Halloween day, October 31st, via Non Serviam Records. Today, the band teamed up with MetalUnderground.com to premiere the brand new single "Blond Poison", which is featured on the album.

Stahlsarg was formed in 2013 and hails from Suffolk. Discovered in the demo writing days by Hellhammer of Mayhem who approached the band for a shirt, and off the back of that meeting, a London support show was secured. Thus began a succession of U.K. and European shows playing alongside bands such as Endstille, Handful of Hate, Excruciate666 and Crystal Viper, to name a few.

The band internationally released the first album "Comrades in Death" through the Danish label Mighty Music in 2015 which garnered positive press online and in print publications in Europe and was aired over online radio stations.

The new release "Mechanisms of Misanthropy" was recorded by Danny B Takoma (Criminal, Lockup) at HVR studios in Suffolk, who also took on production duties on the band’s debut album. The album features a guest vocal appearance from Kim Dylla (A Winter Lost, GWAR, Kung Fu Dykes) and an arrangement from Brian Moss of Vicious Pink. "Mechanisms of Misanthropy" brings a darker and more atmospheric sound to the band, with the introduction of a gothic guitar sound, samples and the bassist Destruction playing tuba and trombone. Liv Sin Premeires New Single "King Of The Damned"

Liv Sin - former vocalist and driving force of Sister Sin - has teamed up with Metal Underground.com for the premiere of the new single "King Of The Damned." This brand new track is in cooperation with the Swedish Animal Rights organization "Djurens Rätt" an calls attention to the plight of the world's widlife.

"For me, this song is a call to action to everyone that we as humans will soon extinguish all of the wildlife," Liv says. "And we need to take action immediately otherwise there will be nothing left. Liv got the inspiration for the lyrics to "King of the Damned" from the exhibition "Inherit the Dust", a photo exhibition by Nick Brandt who revisited places he used to take pictures of the wildlife that now show how these landscapes has turned into wastelands filled with piles of garbage. "For me, both of those events are extremely depressing and not very flattering for mankind. Unfortunately that's the way we are heading if we do nothing. Remember 'Lion King'? Well, soon there is not going to be any 'King of the Jungle' left, they will be 'King of the Damned' instead."

She continues, "I wish that everyone would take a minute to just think about it, about how we are treating our world. We chose to cooperate with a Swedish animal rights organization called Djurens rätt on this song. All of the profits of this song from our Bandcamp site will go to them. There will also be a way to donate through PayPal."

Decatur Proves Its "Badder Than Brooklyn"

Toronto-based metal messiahs Decatur - comprised of Jay “Beard” Sarrazin (Lead Vocals/Guitar), Tiny Basstank (Bass/Backup Vocals), Steve “Animal” Mitchell (Drums/ Backup Vocals), and Liam Maguire (Guitar/Backup Vocals) - are a day away (Friday, October 6th release date - pre-order the album here) from dropping the monster debut album "Badder Than Brooklyn." Why wait, though? The band has teamed up with MetalUnderground.com to premiere the entire album today! Check it out in the player at the bottom.

Decatur has sensed the hunger from metal fans for proper metal with real songs, music built on the foundations of the past to last far into the future. Make no mistake, Decatur are a band that puts the grit into integrity, as guitarist/vocalist Jay ‘Beard’ Sarrazin says, Decatur make “real metal for real metalheads.”

Named after the band's very own Street of Dreams in New York, where the debut album was recorded - Silvercord Studios in Brooklyn - Decatur gets its unique sound by being opened-minded, not just to each other in this band of brothers, but to different genres, not just of metal, but also the blues, rock ‘n’ roll and even pop! Decatur’s criteria if it’s good they can make it better! The band focuses on evolution not devolution. There is no fear of Decatur repeating itself musically; for the band…the world is not enough. Decatur is an intrepid explorer, never playing it safe, always looking for new lands to conquer, and in the process drawing on creative powers the group has never known it possessed. More...

Sound Storm Premieres New Video "Forsaken"

Unleashing the third studio album "Vertigo" in Europe last December via Rockshots Records, Italian symphonic metal act Sound Storm announced the album will be officially released in North America on October 13th. Digital and CD album pre-orders for North America available on Amazon at this location.

Check out our review of the album over at this location.

In celebration of the release on North American shores, the Italian opus masters have teamed up with MetalUnderground.com for the exclusive world premiere for the new video clip "Forsaken," which was filmed during the band's performance at the 2016 Lucca Comics and Games, one of Europe's largest comic cons.

Check out the clip in the player below.

"Vertigo" was produced in the Netherlands at Sandlane Recording Facilities by Joost Van Den Broek (Epica, Ayreon, Xandria) and is something more than a metal album, the music has a cinematic purpose. The overall concept of “Vertigo” is a Victorian - steam punk story, firstly based on Dante’s Inferno idea and then developed to a more psychological/introspective tale. Gabriel is the main character of the story, an unsuccessful composer who becomes a scientist, starting a war against his troubled mind and forcing himself to destroy everything beloved. The only handhold seems to be a mystic dragonfly, leading Gabriel among the floors of a huge spiral staircase.

Sleeping Romance Premieres Video Clip For New Song

Let the curtain rise on the sensual seduction of Mediterranean symphonic metal: Italy's Sleeping Romance provides a symphony for the brokenhearted who somehow manage to love again. With the new album “Alba,” the band leads you on a journey of orchestral opera arrangements and siren songs; touching, sometimes frightening, but always as personal as can be.

"Alba" will be released on November 3rd via Napalm Records (pre-order the album here), but today the band has teamed up with MetalUnderground.com to premiere the video clip for the new single "Where The Light Is Bleeding," which you can check out in the player below.

Songstress Federica Lanna means every word of "The Bleeding Darkness In Me." As always, Federico Truzzi flatters her lovely voice with delicate guitars. The Italian quintet display true mastery, as they fuse bloodcurdling classical sounds with monstrous melodic death metal-riffing, full of force yet sustained by noble, theatrical flamboyance. After the success of the debut "Enlighten," Sleeping Romance's frenetic "Alba" is not to be ignored.

The concept of "Alba," 'Dawn' in Italian, centers around the main character and her life that advances through difficulties, choices and mistakes, and leads the character to a positive growth. The message the concept wants to give is that life is complex, full of obstacles, but there's always a way forward, and an opportunity for everyone to reach what their heart desire.

Serenity Tells The Tale Of "Lionheart"

Austrian symphonic metal act Serenity has teamed up with MetalUnderground.com to premiere the new song "Lionheart," the title track of the upcoming new album due to drop on October 27th, 2017 via Napalm Records. Pre-orders can be made at this location.

On the album, the band states: "Hear us roar!! After we spread Da Vinci's 'Codex Atlanticus' all over the world, which you made one of our most successful records ever, we will now feed your yearnings with another historical masterpiece: 'Lionheart!' Strong, powerful symphonic power metal hymns mixed with emotions from the depth of our souls - follow us into this new era and show us your Lionheart!!!"

One thing is for sure, the band has brought back a key instrument and made it front and center for "Lionheart" - the guitar. Guitarist Christian Hermsdörfer unleashes a riff barrage over the course of the album, but the band still maintains all the symphonic elements fans have come to love. However, with "Lionheart" comes great power, but not from behind...it punches your straight in the face.

"Lionheart" is a collection of songs that tells the tale of Richard I, King and Crusader of England. Though the release doesn't necessarily follow a timeline, the songs are carefully constructed from real events with the music creating the perfect soundscape to tell the tale. Whether it be galloping horses, fierce battles, ships on the ocean in stormy seas - Serenity makes you feel history as you learn it.

The track listing for "Lionheart" is as follows:

1. Deus Lo Vult
2. United
3. Lionheart
4. Hero
5. Rising High
6. Heaven
7. King's Landing
