Devin Townsend Uploads Trailer For New Documentary

Devin Townsend will release "Order Of Magnitude – Empath Live Volume 1" on the 23rd October 2020, a document of his Winter 2019 European tour that saw him taking on possibly his most ambitious live show to date. The blu-ray edition of this forthcoming release features a behind the scenes feature, taking a look at the preparation for this tour & the filming of the live album. You can check it out below.

Recorded in December 2019 in London, UK on the penultimate night of the tour in support of his latest album "Empath," this run of shows saw Devin joined by an incredible line-up of musicians. The band was made up of guitarists Mike Kenneally (ex-Frank Zappa) and Markus Reuter (Stick Men, The Crimson Project), drummer Morgan Ågren (Kaipa, Mats & Morgan, Frank Zappa), bassist Nathan Navarro, Haken keyboard player Diego Tejeida, and guitarist/vocalist Ché Aimee Dorval, as well as vocalists Samantha & Anne Preis and Arabella Packford.

Devin’s plan for the Empath touring cycle was to divide it up into three "Volumes," and this was Volume 1. The idea behind the shows was a simple one: none of the backing tapes or click tracks that had long been necessary to bring the kaleidoscopic cacophony in his head and on his records to life in the flesh. This would just be Devin Townsend and a band of genius-level musicians getting up there and trying to keep it from spinning off into outer space. Or maybe just letting it spin-off into outer space for the sheer hell of it. More...

Sculptor To Release Debut Album In December

Frontiers Music Srl recently announced the signing Brazilian melodic death metal act Sculptor to its rapidly expanding metal roster. Although hailing from South America, the band’s sound is more akin to a different part of the globe, more specifically the early years of the Gothenburg sound popularised by the likes of Dark Tranquility and In Flames, as well as other Swedish acts such as Soilwork and Tiamat.

Based in the southern city of Curitiba (also the home of labelmates Semblant, Landfall and Electric Mob), Sculptor was founded in 2015 by frontman Rick Eraser (vocals) and Vinne (vocals/guitars), who were subsequently joined by Caco Ramos (bass), Fabricio Reis (guitars) and Mateus Schran (drums). Having debuted with a single entitled "Oblivion," it became a blueprint for the songs that now comprise their debut album, "Untold Secrets."

"'Untold Secrets' is a very special album because the lyrics are about our own secrets. Sometimes we are afraid to talk about how we feel and want to give up on everything. But we need to fight and move on. When I wrote these songs I was battling depression and music helped me to overcome it. I hope everybody who listens to these songs can talk about their own ‘Untold Secrets’," states Eraser.

"Untold Secrets" was recorded and produced by Eraser and Vinne at the band's studio in Curitiba, before being mixed by Linus Corneliusson at the renowned Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden. It showcases various complex influences that the musicians have assimilated via their previous projects.

"The name ‘Sculptor’ means that we are the sculptors of our lives, we can shape and transform them into what we want. The lyrics also address this subject and how everything we do impacts our world," add the band. More...

Imha Tarikat unleash the first track taken from their forthcoming sophomore full-length "Sternenberster," which marks the Germans' debut on Prophecy Produktion black metal sub-label Lupus Lounge. The album has been slated for release on December 11th. The fierce single "Brand am Firmament" ("Celestial Blaze") can be heard below.

Kerem Yilmaz aka Ruhsuz Cellât comments: "Our song 'Brand am Firmament' deals with the final overcoming of the aggressor that resides in your heart and pulls you down into the depths of loss time and again", explains Imha Tarikats mastermind. "How often will you allow yourself to relive failure and misery? How long will you continue to let it tear you apart while a vicious joy grows out of your futile efforts to fight this? The root of this suffering hides in places where only darkness lurks. 'Brand am Firmament' is a vision of a failed cause that flickers with lucid disappointment. Annihilate it! Nanowar Of Steel Uploads New Music Video

Kings of masterful heavy metal parodies Nanowar Of Steel bless the world with yet another spectacular music video for their new single "Uranus," featuring none other than glam icon Michael Starr of the legendary Steel Panther! Showing off their incredible choreography skills in shiny space suits, Nanowar Of Steel dance their way straight into your heart – and Uranus!

Michael Starr (Steel Panther) says about the video for "Uranus":
"This video will make your penis bigger with one view. The more times you view it, the bigger your penis will get. You’re welcome. 'Uranus' is a must watch video. It’s the only way to have your first eye orgasms. A fun video with a great story line. If you don’t like this song you must be deaf. If you don’t like this video you must be blind."

Gatto Panceri 666 of Nanowar Of Steel adds about the video for "Uranus":
"I know, this joke has been used and abused since 1781, from the very first day William Herschel discovered this planet. However, being a practicing astronomer and a professional idiot, I felt I had more right to use it as the subject of a song to be dignified with a Lady Gaga-level video (in all humbleness). Perhaps it won't be the most original pun ever, but one thing we can tell you for sure: this joke turned out to be the most expensive one we've ever told so far!" More...

Katla Releases New Music Video

Katla have released a video clip for the song "Farg," which is taken from the EP "Blótar gömlu goðin" ("An Offering to the Old Gods"). This special treat is only available as part of the premium editions of the Icelanders' forthcoming second full-length "Allt þetta helvítis myrkur."

"The Icelandic word 'Farg' refers to a heavy burden", writes Einar Thorberg Guðmundsson. "A very dear friend of mine carried such a heavy burden for all his life and eventually died far too young. His story would easily fill a book, if I could bring myself to write it. For the time being, all I want to say is that I wrote this song as a means of self-therapy and to send a message out to the cosmos. After many years, I have finally come to terms with his passing. The weight we carry should rightfully only belong to the living. May he rest in peace. 'Farg' is dedicated to Sverrir Örn Ólafsson (27 December 1979 – 28 August 2012) – never forgotten."

The album can be pre-ordered at this location More...

Avandra To Release New Album In November

Puerto Rican prog-metal band Avandra have released new single "Celestial Wreaths" and announced the release of new album "Skylighting," out 20th November via Layered Reality Productions. You can check out the video for "Celestial Wreaths" below.

When the pandemic hit, guitarist Christian Ayala wrote "Celestial Wreaths" about to the situation the world was in, and a snowball of creativity led to him writing a whole new album.

Christian Ayala comments: "'Celestial Wreaths' is an emotional song written during the pandemic that is hitting the world right now, about the inevitable loss that we have to deal with. It's a song for all those who have lost a loved one during these trying times. May you find them shining bright in the night sky..."

On the album, he continues: "This new album is the response to our current situation in the world due to everything that has happened to us. It became a voyage of loss and return through cosmic cycles in which I both searched inward and outward, combining my love for philosophy and current events into songs. We were joined this time around by keyboardist extraordinaire Vikram Shankar (Redemption, Silent Skies, Lux Terminus) who provided additional layers to the songs, taking them to a whole new level. We are really excited to share this record with all of you guys!" More...

The Unguided Releases New Lyric Video

Swedish frontrunners The Unguided draw you into the deep, dark underbelly of their gloomy antithesis of pure harshness and rousing melodies, forming an unbeatable framework of melodic death metal. Their smashing third single, "Stand Alone Complex," is cut from their upcoming album, "Father Shadow," out this Friday, October 9 via Napalm Records.

"Stand Alone Complex" re-opens the heavy doors to The Unguided's universe of brutal growls and clean and catchy choruses, attacking the listener’s eardrum at breakneck speeds and sticking in their mind forever. Their third offering showcases another facet of their characteristic symbiosis of melodic death metal mixed with remarkable electronic influences and conspicuous metalcore elements.

Richard Sjunnesson of The Unguided on the new single “Stand Alone Complex”:
"“Stand Alone Complex” is a classic The Unguided song in terms of structure and vibe. And drives the narrative of Seth and Gaia deeper into their coming realization and burden. It was a bit of an underdog song during the pre-production phase but once everything was in place it got new air under its wings and lifted neatly. The intro, with its captivating synth and heavy riffs, is crushing on its own and that last double chorus always gives me the feels."

The lyric video, along with Metal Underground's recent interview with Richard Sjunnesson, can be found below. More...
