Cipher System Signs To Nuclear Blast

Nuclear Blast records has issued the following announcement about signing a deal with Sweden's Cipher System for the release of a new album:

"15 years after the birth of the band, Cipher System returns with what has to be described as a masterpiece in a genre where innovation has become sparse, putting their murderous machinations on public display, forged with fearsome skill and precision: 'Communicate The Storm.' Packed in the rapturous art of a true genius of darkened visuals, Seth Siro Anton (Soilwork, Paradise Lost, SepticFlesh), and with a mix once again stemming from the hallowed grounds of Studio Fredman, this colossus of an album is sure to send tremors throughout the scene when it hits the street on September, 9th 2011!"

The band also added, "When you have been in this business as long as we have, you take everything with a bit of 'this will never happen, but it would be great if it did' attitude. That is how we protect ourselves from not being broken down by all setbacks. So when we finished mixing 'Communicate The Storms' we thought we had an great album in our hands, but after 6 months of recording and around 2 years of writing it, we didn't really knew for sure. But when we got contacted by Nuclear Blast we knew that we were on to something. It's a true honor to be signed to the label that gave us 'Storm Of The Light's Bane,' 'Jester Race,' 'Enthrone Darkness Triumphant' to name a few. Nuclear Blast was our goal and dream label when we started playing in the 90's, and we have finally found our way home. We want to thank all the people, friends and fans all around the world for the support! Let's race to the top!”

Cipher System's new album “Communicate The Storm” will be released on September 9th, 2011. Additional details on the album will be announced as they are made available.

Unearthing The Metal Underground In The Maritimes

Each week in Unearthing the Metal Underground, we'll be putting a few quality underground bands in the spotlight in an attempt to get the word out about them. For this article I’m going to be looking at three very distinct styles, but all are committed to their style and fan base.

The Maritimes, with its small population and many rural areas, might not be considered the hotbed of metal, but when you look into the underground you see a very different story. With all styles of metal being accepted and embraced, the underground is growing each and every late night. In the name of the Maritimes, sit back with an Alexander Keith’s and enjoy this ride through our underground.

Cicada

Bass + Guitar + Drums = A Band. Bass + Guitar + Drums + Deep Growls + High Shrieks = A Metal Band. Bass + Guitar + Drums + Deep Growls + High Shrieks + African Djembe = CICADA. Cicada consists of Chester Long (bass/vocals), Anson May (guitar/vocals), Joe Pottie (drums), and Nathan Collupy (Djembe). The obvious white elephant in the room is the Djembe. The Djembe creates an instant groove to their whole performance. The groove sound it creates is something that all bands work hard at achieving with some very complicated bass work, but with Cicada the Djembe frees up Chester to work in tandem with the drums and create a very heavy rhythm that Anson can play in an out of.

It’s not very often that you hear something and think (a) “that’s different” and (b) “that’s really good,” but that’s the simplest expression I can use when describing a band of great guys that has created something really good and really different. You can hear this amazing sound at their ReverbNation page.

Woland Working On Debut Album

Finnish post black metal group Woland is currently in the studio recording a debut full-length album. The group previously released a two song cut entitled "Conquer All & Live Forever," which has already been available for streaming online since February.

Woland's frontman, also known as Cavus vocalist W, states the following:

"We are currently working in our guitarist LXIV's own studio, west of Helsinki. Most of the drum parts are done, as well as the bass and big parts of the guitars. The plan is to have the basics done by July so we can start the vocal recordings in August. Having a private and yet modern location where to conduct the recordings gives us a lot of freedom to experiment with different technologies and ways of production, so we are taking our time.

"We will have some great guest musicians on the album for which we may need to re-locate a bit, but I don't want to give out any spoilers yet. All in all I'm personally very enthusiastic with this album. While my work in black metal so far has mostly been about the grit, dirt and uglyness, this is the perfect moment to show the other side of the same coin."

The band previously stated that the still unnamed album "will portray some of the most powerful songs and lyrics portrayed in this genre" and that Woland is "embarking on a voyage for extraordinary spiritual clarity, striving for that endless splendor and eternal mind."

Anterior Announces New Album Details

Anterior is currently readying to unveil "Echoes Of The Fallen," the U.K. based band's second full-length album. Set for release in G/A/S on August 26th, in Europe on August 29th and North America on September 13th via Metal Blade Records, the 10-track long player was recorded at Grindstone Studios through 2011 with Scott Atkins producing.

Anterior guitarist Leon Kemp comments:

"That's right! The new album is finally here and we cannot wait for you guys to hear it! We've been hard at it for the past few months with producer Scott Atkins at Grindstone Studios and I must say the tracks are sounding massive. I feel we've really found our sound on this album. It's been quite a while since our last release and we've matured a lot as a band, especially with the addition of some new members.

"We've managed to retain all the great aspects of our first album 'This Age Of Silence' and improve on them. The songs are more concise than before and we've really worked on making each song as strong as it can possibly be. We haven't settled for anything less, and at times it's been tough working to the benchmark we set ourselves, but it's brought the best out in everyone and after hearing the finished product it's definitely been worth it. We've had a phenomenal reaction to some of the new tracks we've played live and we can't wait for this album to drop, we are sure you guys are gonna love it! And if you can't wait to hear some new songs then get your asses to Sonisphere, we'll be ripping out a few new tunes for you guys!"

The "Echoes Of The Fallen" track listing is as follows:

1. To Live Not Remain
2. Blood In The Throne Room
3. Tyranny
4. Of Gods And Men
