Neverdream Announces New Album Title

Gothic metallers Neverdream recently announced that the title of their forthcoming album will be "The Circle," which is scheduled for release some time in 2012. According to an update from the band, it will be a concept album about family violence, religious fanaticism, and a tragic hero. Neverdream commented on the upcoming release:

"The Circle takes its listeners to the Texan city Corpus Christi back in the year 1990. A family father, strictly religious, violent and a bigot at the same time, is abusing his own son and puts pressure on him not to tell anyone about it. He tells his son about a secret safety belt which he has built around the city with the help of God that will protect all good people from evil. The evil that's in his eyes; all betrayers, liars and women.

"One day the mother reports the sexual harassment to the police and the father gets arrested. The son and tragic hero of the story hates his mother for doing so – he is brainwashed by the fanaticism of his father and moves away from the city. In his new place he meets a girl and falls in love, but she doesn't love him in return and he kills her. Her dead body is found with her eyes sewed.

"From this day on several murders happen in this small town – it's always young women and always their eyes are sewed shut. The local police department calls the unknown murderer that they are searching for The Tailor..."

Stay tuned for more details on the track listing, cover artwork, and release date for "The Circle."

Sunday Old School: Paul Di'anno After Iron Maiden

In 1982, British heavy metal band Iron Maiden made what would be one of the biggest decisions of their career when they fired their singer Paul Di'anno and recruited Samson vocalist, Bruce Dickinson. As everyone knows, Iron Maiden then released their third album, "The Number Of The Beast" and subsequently became one of the biggest groups in the history of heavy metal. But what happened to Di'anno after he was sacked? Quite a lot actually...

Following his departure, Di'anno formed a self-titled band, releasing only one album, also called, "Di'anno," before breaking up in 1985. While touring in support of the record, the band angered fans by refusing to perform any Iron Maiden songs, instead focusing on their own material with a few covers thrown in. Before disbanding, the group was also able to release a live video, "Live at the Palace," which is now available on DVD as "Live In London." After his self-titled endeavour, Paul then found himself part of a new heavy metal supergroup called Gogmagog, which was intended to be a rock opera project. The band saw Di'anno reunited with his former Maiden bandmate Clive Burr and also featured original Def Leppard guitarist Pete Willis, former Whitesnake bassist Neil Murray and White Spirit/future Iron Maiden guitarist Janick Gers. The band didn't fare well and folded after only releasing a three song EP, "I Will Be There." More...

Blind Guardian Teams Up With Fantasy Author

German power metal favourites Blind Guardian has announced that they have teamed up with author Markus Heitz, known for his "The Dwarves" books, to create the concept for the band's next album. A mesage from frontman Hansi Kürsch reads as follows:

"Busy seasons are usually harbingers of great things to come. Festivals, regular studio work and, above all, the orchestral album are making this a very exciting summer for us. Let's keep the focus on the orchestral album one more time. We have spectacular news!

"Every orchestral project needs a concept and such a concept demands a great story. To get a story that fits together perfectly with our majestic music, we are joining forces with Germany's best fantasy author Markus Heitz; check out his Die Zwerge (The Dwarves) series. Markus is one of my favorite writers of 'high fantasy.' I have been really amazed by several of his books over the last years but was finally and completely convinced about him being the perfect choice for our project by Gerechter Zorn (Righteous Wrath) — the first part of his newest trilogy, Die Legenden der Albae (Legends Of The Albae). The way he weaves in different aspects to his splendid universe immediately told me that the quest for the one to come up with the right story for our music was over. Although the final completion of this quite unusual cooperation most probably will keep us busy until 2013, things nonetheless become clearer the more we exchange ideas. The creation of a great new storyboard and the involvement of such a suitable concept are the perfect frame for this soundtrack/musical-like anthems we have come up with over the years. It is absolutely great that Markus is willing to follow us on such an ambitious voyage. More...
