Metallica Comments On Forthcoming New Album with Lou Reed

Metallica has posted the following update online regarding talk of a new album:
"A few months ago our own Kirk Hammett hinted at a new Metallica project that’s 'not really 100 percent a Metallica record.' While Kirk may have jumped the gun a little (and has since been properly punished with a series of push-ups!), we are more than proud to announce that we have just completed recording a full length album that is a collaboration with none other than the legendary Lou Reed.
"Ever since we had the pleasure of performing with Lou at the 25th Anniversary of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at Madison Square Garden in October of 2009, we have been kicking around the idea of making a record together. Some of you astute Bay Area residents may have picked up news of recent Lou Reed sightings in the greater San Francisco area and we have indeed been working at our home studio at HQ on and off over the last few months. In what would be lightning speed for a Metallica related project, we recorded ten songs during this time and while at this moment we’re not exactly sure when you’ll hear it, we’re beyond excited to share with you that the recording sessions wrapped up last week.
"A true innovator and easily one of the most influential songwriters, musicians, and performers in rock music history, Lou‘s work with the Velvet Underground and as a solo artist has such an enduring quality that he has long been revered and respected by us and many of our peers. We can’t wait for you to listen to the finished record, so as we like to hear ourselves say around here, keep watching this spot for updates...we’ll be back with more details as they come together."

It's sad when people get disappointed when it's not another Master of Puppets record. That'll never happen again. I'm sure it will be a letdown of some sort. I just hope they recorded it properly. Death Magnetic was recorded & mixed way too loud, the quality was distorted. It's unlistenable.

i'm not saying metallica aren't awesome, and true it's unfair to expect them to repeat MOP or RTL, but imo death magnetic was musically the closest thing they've come to their big three in 20 years. granted the production was awful, but so was AJFA, and it was better than St Anger.
...and now they seem to have turned tail. unless lou reed was busting out some killer riffs.
metallica certainly are great, but i hardly think they deserve to be at the forefront of the (relatively) oh so metal big four shows and sonisphere in general when bands like slayer have recently made amazing comebacks (WPB) and even anthrax are getting it together. i mean, anthrax haven't been good since 1993, and now even they've got joey back, and here's metallica doing an album with lou reed?
shame to see. great band, especially if they at least made some effort to stick to what made them great in the first place.

Are you feeling ok dude?
Met and Lou Reed?
This could either really be a decent rock record (black album) or maybe Reed kicked them in the a$$ and MADE them do another RTL or MOP....and wouldn't that be something indeed.... :)
Death Magnetic...love the album hate the production but I'm preachin to the choir here.

Actually this could have been worse. They could have announced a collaberation with Gaga,Kesha,or P diddy or some sh**. I would not have put it pass them, you know expose thier music to a differant market. Nothing surprises me with these guys anymore. And that King/Strait collab sound pretty interesting. Didnt hear about that one.

Mustaine always said that Metallica were homos
and now the circle is complete
both Lou Reed and Metallica made music from the streets
but both are a long way from being edgy these days
Lou Reed turned 69 this year
i always thought that part of Metallica's problem was spending too much time in the studio and w/ Reed's songwriting ability it should be interesting
but this seems like it will be experimental for Reed and middle of the road for Metallica
perhaps 69yo Reed will ignite some punk spirit in
Metallica, they could use a jolt of some sonic adventurism
great article

If Metallica came out with more than 2 albums a decade, I think people would b**** less. Nothing wrong with an experimental album as long as it's bookended by "normal" albums. Having said that, it's clear Metallica have past the point of ever being thrash or even metal again, so taken for what they are, I'm intrigued by this.

I will def check out this new album. Like every new album that comes out from any band I do not pass judgment on it till I hear it. We have all heard some bands that are horrid in the beginning and then all the sudden they pump out a new album that blows our f***ing socks off and knocks us on out a**'s.
Lets see what the guys can muster up this time. Who knows.....It might be something amazing! Satan knows that after St. Anger they need something to resurrect them!

Not surprising...what would surprise is if it doesn't sound like the utter and complete fvcking garbage that it will invariably prove to be...all these frikken gapers lost their mojo a LONG time ago
Now, if y'all wanna here an interesting collaboration between two rather unlikely genres, check out Dime and Vince's project with David Allen Coe...HEE YAW!

I don't think the callaboration with Lou Reed is going to be as bad as "Metallica" fans think. From what ive heard its a 10 song album with both Metallica and Lou Reeds input and if they play their cards right then this album might be pretty good! I dont think the two icons of rock beleive that this is going to be a hit record, just something they wanted to do to mabe change the vibe a bit.

Great. Just when we thought Deaf Magnetic was a ray of light into a possible reinvigoration to their career...they record the next Metallica record with Lou Reed.
Yeah sure he's great, but so is Neil Diamond. Doesn't mean you need to record a whole album with him. A song, yeah I could see that, but an album?
Hey, your not a true Metallica fan unless you b**** and moan about everything they do unless it sounds like their first four albums. Haha
