Adema Finishes Second Album, Releases Single
Arista recording group Adema, who emerged as one of the success stories of 2002 with their top 15 Modern Rock track "The Way You Like It," has finished recording their second full-length album, UNSTABLE (titled for the lead single), which will arrive in stores on August 19th, it was announced today by Antonio "L.A." Reid, President and CEO, Arista Records.
In advance of the "Unstable" single, scheduled for radio adds on June 23rd, Adema will hit the road for six weeks of headlining U.S. dates. Shows kick off in the band's California home state in Chico (Brick Works) and San Jose (The Edge), on June 1st and 2nd respectively. The tour will work its way from the West to the South to the Northeast, before returning to wrap up at the Roxy in Los Angeles on July 12th. Opening for Adema will be newly-signed Arista group Automatic Black, whose debut single "Something For You (stupid girl)" goes to radio July 21st, ahead of their album due in stores October 14th.
"Unstable" ("I'm trapped and we can't get along/ I thought that I was strong/ We are so unstable...") is one of eleven new songs revealing the fevered imagination and chilling vocals of lead singer Marky Chavez. He cites U2 and "the rawness of a band like Nirvana" as heavy influences. "There are very personal demons that were dealt with in making the record," he says, "and as artists, we took big chances on songs like 'So Fortunate' which is about my newborn son, and 'Let Go.' My favorite song would be 'Codependent' which deals with every human being's vices."
UNSTABLE was produced at Bay Seven in the Valley by Howard Benson (POD, Cold). The final sequence is: "Codependent," Rip the Heart Out Of Me," "Stand Up," "Unstable," "Promises," "Blame Me," "So Fortunate," "Stressin'," "Do You Hear Me," "Let Go," "Betray," and "Needles."

Dying Fetus Try to Speed It Up
According to an update, the new Dying Fetus record won't take as long as the last album. Here's the update: "Last night at band practice we talked about how we don't want to have another three year period between albums. These three years [between Destroy The Opposition and Stop At Nothing] have been a rebuilding stage, so I'm sorry to all those who had to wait so long. Hopefully the next record will be in a year and a half, and it will definitely not be more than two years from now. We'll be writing soon, I already have riffs in my files."
My Dying Bride In the Midst of Recording
My Dying Bride are holed up in Academy Studio's recording the follow up to The Dreadful Hours. An October 20th release through Peaceville has been scheduled.
In live news, My Dying Bride will celebrate the release of their new album with a Halloween show at London’s Astoria. The band also take a couple of breaks from recording in July to play the With Full Force Festival in Germany on July 6th, The Skeleton Bash Festival in Austria on July 26th and the Sziget Festival in Hungary on July 31st.

Moonspell Inspires Novel
Portugal's Moonspell will be collaborating with José Luis Peixoto, one of the most promising young fictionists from Europe and the most important writer of the Portuguese new generations, on a book based on the group's forthcoming album, "The Antidote".
Having published already two novels — 2000's "Not Even A Gaze" (winner of the most prestigious award in Portuguese Literature, the Saramago award) and 2002's "A House In The Darkness" — as well as two poetry books, Peixoto will publish a "small tales" novel called "The Antidote", influenced by the music, lyrics and spirit of the 10 songs contained on the record. The book, which will be published in Portugal by Temas & Debates, will also be available in a very limited edition, consisting of a "digibook", featuring the book in its original language (Portuguese) and the Moonspell CD. An English translation of this work, by Richard Zenith, will be available worldwide as a bonus multimedia track on "The Antidote" album.
Chaosbreed to release EP Through Rising Realm
Chaosbreed, the new Finnish death metal supergroup consisting of drummer Nalle Österman, bassist Oppu Laine, guitarist Marko Tarvonen, guitarist Esa Holopainen, and vocalist Taneli Jarva, will be releasing a five-song EP, "Unleashed Carnage", later this month through resurrected Finnish label Rising Realm Records. The first 200 copies of the EP will be available during the Tuska Festival weekend in Helsinki, Finland, where the group are scheduled to make their live debut on Friday, July 11 at the Stella Star Club. "Unleashed Carnage" will receive a "proper" Finnish release on July 21, with the international release date to follow a short time later.
As previously reported, Chaosbreed are currently rehearsing material for a full-length album, to be recorded in August at Sunlight Studio in Stockholm, Sweden with producer Tomas Skogsberg. A late 2003/early 2004 release through an as-yet-undetermined label is expected.
The Kovenant Start Work on New Material
Norway's The Kovenant have reportedly started work on the material for their new album, tentatively due in early 2004 through Nuclear Blast Records. The as-yet-untitled effort will apparently be "more guitar-oriented and darker" than "S.E.T.I." (Search For Extraterrestrial Intelligence), which came out in March.
As previously reported, The Kovenant will be joined by two session musicians during their upcoming world tour in support of "S.E.T.I." . Ram-Zet drummer Küth and Apoptygma Berzerk keyboardist Geir Bratland have reportedly signed on to tour with the group, which headlined the Inferno Festival in Oslo, Norway in April.
Withering Surface Searching for New Home
Denmark's Withering Surface have ended their cooperation with British label Copro Records. Copro released the band's third album, "Walking On Phantom Ice", in the fall of 2001, but has not been able to finance the band's next effort, thus allowing the group to seek out a new label home.
Withering Surface are presently negotiating with several labels regarding the release of their fourth album, which is tentatively due to be recorded in October/November at Antfarm Studio with producer Tue Madsen (The Haunted, Mnemic, Raunchy). An early 2004 release is expected.
Pro-Pain Return With Covers Album
PRO-PAIN are set to return to action on August 26th with the release of their ninth studio album, Run For Cover (Spitfire). The album's unique concept, containing cover songs from artists who have influenced the band, makes Run For Cover a special recording - adding to the band's already respected decade-plus career.
Forgoing the predictable, PRO-PAIN has aligned an impressive and wide array of songs from artists ranging from metal stalwarts Slayer ("South of Heaven"), Motorhead ("Iron Fist") and Celtic Frost ("Circle of the Tyrants") to punk/hardcore trailblazers Discharge ("Never Again"), Negative Approach ("Nothing"), Operation Ivy ("The Crowd"), Black Flag ("Damaged II") and Agnostic Front ("Your Mistake"). The album also includes a surprise remake from founder/front-man/bassist Gary Meskil's former band Crumbsuckers ("Just Sit There") and a spirited version of Life Of Agony's "Weeds."
"PRO-PAIN has never been known for being much of a 'cover band,' and as a matter of fact we have never even done any cover songs until now," notes Meskil. "So, this 'lack of' has provided us with the perfect opportunity and platform to pay tribute to some of our favorite bands who have influenced us musically, spiritually, and intellectually over the years."
