Metallica's St. Anger Debuts At #1
Metallica's "St. Anger" has shifted 416,762 copies in the U.S. in its first, shortened week on the streets, landing the album on top of next week's The Billboard 200 chart, according to Hits Daily Double, the companion web site of music industry tip sheet HITS.
Metallica's last studio album, "Re-Load", sold 435,000 units during its first week, while 1996's "Load" opened at 680,000. 1991's self-titled "black album" debuted with 598,000 and has since gone on to sell more than 12 million copies in the U.S.
Dragonforce Drummer Quits
Drummer Didier Almouzni has left British power metallers Dragonforce. He’s been temporarily replaced by Swede Christian Wirtl.
Ghostride Formed By Willhaven Trio
Former Will Haven trio Jeff Irwin (guitar), Mike Martin (bass) and Mitch Wheeler (drums) have put together a new band called Ghostride. They’ve brought in vocalist Ray Osbourne (Tinfed) and guitarist Cayle Hunter (Oddman) to complete the line-up. The quintet are currently working on a demo with producer Eric Stenman.
Paths Of Possession Split CD
Cannibal Corpse frontman George ‘Corpsegrinder’ Fischer has teamed up with ex-Morbid Angel guitarist Richard Brunelle in a band called Paths Of Possession. Their first release is a split album with Dark Faith, due to be released later in the month by Splattergod Records.
Beatallica To Record Second EP
The spoof cover band Beatallica ("Beatles tunes, done Metallica style") are going into the studio next week to record a second EP. The new songs (and a new website) are expected to be ready by early July. They have posted a newFlash video for "Sgt. Hetfield's Motorbreath Pub Band" and more fan art: a Kill 'em All cover, and two more by darkblack.
And finally, word has it that Metallica themselves have finally heard the Beatallica tracks, and more details about this will be released soon
