Producer John Purdell Loses Battle With Cancer

Producer John Purdell passed away from cancer late last week. His death was unexpected, for he was on tour with the Lou Gramm band until being hospitalized in Quebec two weeks ago. His works inlcude albums from the likes of Poison, Foreigner, Dream Theater, Ozzy Osbourne, Heart, Brett Walker, Cincerella, Kix, Ted Nugent, Alice Cooper, LA Guns, Tangier, Bonham and Britny Fox. He also played on tracks from Night Ranger, Stryper, Quiet Riot, Love/Hate, Junkyard and Poison.

Strapping Young Lad EP

Strapping Young Lad are to release an eight-track EP shortly. As yet untitled it will feature four original songs, plus four cover versions. Strapping Young Lad mainman Devin Townsend is also working on a metal puppet show; he hopes this will combine music and comedy. (WTF?)

Merlin Drummer Killed In Car Accident

Merlin's drummer, Nick Byckoff, was killed in a car accident on July 13th. The band will soon issue a proper statement.

Merlin is currently recording its third album for Great White North entitled Brutal Constructor. The studio sessions should resume within the next few days/weeks. Nick's drums tracks were recorded a few weeks ago, showcasing his enormous talent.

The new album is expected to be released in the late fall.

Acceptance Surprises Marilyn Manson

The early buzz for 'The Golden Age of Grotesque' and its building mainstream acceptance has surprised Marilyn Manson. "We're really surprised that people are hearing it as being so accessible. We were just doing things that we as fans of music enjoy hearing," Manson told Tina Potterf of the Seattle Times. "To see that it has gotten more of mainstream approval doesn't matter as much when you are playing to your audience. It kind of confirms that my depraved imagination, my personality is something that a lot of the world can identify with because they see themselves in it."

As I Lay Dying To Record Live Track

AS I LAY DYING are scheduled to visit the San Diego radio station KFSD on July 21st to record a live set for DJ Tazy Phillips' 'Go Loco' radio program. The show airs Sunday nights 6 - 10pm Pacific Time on 92.1 FM in San Diego.
