Mercenary Announce New Guitarist

Due to personal as well as musical differences, Mercenary has chosen to part ways with leadguitarist Signar Petersen. New shredder on the block will be the only 19-year old toddler Martin Buus Stangspringer Pedersen. None of the upcoming gigs will be affected by this change. Premonitions of War / The Red Chord Split

Premonitions Of War and The Red Chord will be teaming up late this year for a split 7". The effort will be released by Relapse Records and will most likely be limited to a one-time pressing of 2000 copies. Both bands will be contributing one new song, and one cover song. The Red Chord expects to record their material in October, while no plans have been released in regards to Premonitions Of War. Look for more information soon.

Pain of Salvation to Premiere New Music Live

Pain of Salvation has posted the following update:
“Before the next album, BE, is either recorded or released, die-hard fans will be able to see the unique stage production of it be performed during three intense weeks late August and early September in the band's home town Eskilstuna, Sweden.

Apart from the band there will be nine orchestra musicians on stage, and Fredrik will play the Grand Piano and the Harpsichord/Cembalo - we are talking the real thing here; no synthesizers!

We promise a very special experience with music styles colliding, video projections and a very intriguing concept revolving around the Story of Everything, gods and slaves...”

The concerts will take place at Lokomotivet in Eskilstuna, Sweden on August 30, September 5, 6, 12, and 13. Pain Of Salvation’s BE is due out in spring 2004 through InsideOut.

Beseech Name New Cd

Swedish "gothic metal" act Beseech have set "Drama" as the title for their fourth full-length album, tentatively due in early 2004 through Napalm Records.

Beseech have spent the past few weeks at Studio Mega recording the follow-up to 2002's "Souls Highway", the group's first effort since the departure of longtime guitarist Klas Bohlin. According to guitarist Robert Spånglund, "some outside persons that visited the studio and heard some songs in the studio think the new material [is] comparable to/[a] combination of bands such as H.I.M., Type O Negative, Marilyn Manson and Alanis Morisette." SYL to Support Superjoint Ritual

Strapping Young Lad and Full Blown Chaos have been confirmed as the support acts for Superjoint Ritual on their upcoming U.S. tour, set to kick off on August 15 in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Superjoint Ritual's sophomore album, "A Lethal Dose Of American Hatred", sold 20,269 copies in the U.S. during its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan, to debut at No. 55 on The Billboard 200 chart.

Mastodon Announce Tour with Clutch

Relapse Records recording artists Mastodon have announced their fourth U.S. tour in support of their celebrated album Remission. Mastodon will team up with Clutch for two week span beginning August 29th in Asbury Park, NJ. The tour is scheduled to conclude September 14th in Grand Rapids, MI, with additional dates pending.

Mastodon, fresh off their first headlining tour of Europe, will first hit the road for an August string of Southeastern U.S. dates that will include appearances at Krazy Fest (alongside Hatebreed, Blood Brothers, Burnt By the Sun), Furnace Fest (alongside Andrew WK, Taking Back Sunday) and Redemption Fest.

Fates Warning Cancels Two Shows

There has been an update on the DREAM THEATER site, that FATES WARNING will have to cancel two gigs, Spokane and Boise. here's the official word:

“On behalf of Jim Matheos (who can't get to a computer right now), I am saddened to announce that unfortunately, Fates Warning has been forced to cancel their appearances with us tonight in Spokane and tomorrow in Boise.

We are all bummed to announce this (especially as I was to be playing their set with them tonight in Spokane), but it is a situation out of our control.

We apologize to any disappointed fans.... MP"
