Unearthing the Metal Underground: Outre-Tombe
Eastern Canada’s French province Quebec has been a hotbed of metal for decades, whether we are talking about the legendary prog-inclined thrashers of Voivod or the abrasive tech death of Cryptopsy and everything in between and beyond. Since 2010, Quebec City’s Outre-Tombe have been forwarding a classic form of death metal that many nowadays would incorrectly and hastily label as “Old School Death Metal,” or “OSDM.” The French Canadian band plays a form of death metal that is, quite simply, timeless. Lybica Signs With Metal Blade Records
Hailing from South Florida and featuring Killswitch Engage drummer Justin Foley on guitar, Lybica has today, announced its signing to Metal Blade Records and has shared the virtual performance video for the song "Ferment." Watch it below.
"After recording, we were just hopeful to generate any kind of label interest," Lybica says. "Having Metal Blade come forward and believe in us was unexpected and, quite honestly, thrilling. We couldn't be more excited to be a part of such an amazing roster."
Lybica were first conceived in 2020 when it became clear to Justin Foley (drummer for Killswitch Engage) that he wasn't going to be spending much time with his normal bandmates for a while. Quarantine days still needed to be time well spent, and he'd been working on some demos that he finally decided to share with a few local friends in South Florida. "I'd written a bunch of stuff that didn't quite fit into traditional song structures," Foley says. "And I've always been drawn to bands where the instruments provide hooks, rather than relying on a lyric. It seemed like a good time to start something new and see where it could go."
Foley met fellow musicians Doug French (Gravel Kings) and Joey Johnson (Gravel Kings, Barriers Now Bridges, Days Spent) back in 2016, and they had repeatedly talked about jamming together but never actually got around to it. Foley and French - both drummers by trade - often spoke about trying something different that allowed them each to get out from behind the kit. More...

Comments vocalist Lukas Swiaczny: "We are very excited to release our new EP 'Strain Of Gods' via our favourite label Unique Leader Records. The EP contains six songs and is peppered with a mix of brutality, groove and chill. Look forward to razor sharp guitar riffs, unstoppable drums, a bass inferno with two basses and a gurglish vocal arrangement! Once again we had the pleasure of recording and mixing the album at DPK Studios. The master was done by our good friends at Demigod Recordings. Our cover designer Aghy Purakusuma went all out again and created a super-wide landscape cover. We can't wait to unleash this beast on you."
"Strain Of Gods" is a concept EP featuring six tracks of bludgeoning nastiness which rage with scorched earth guitar playing, brutally heavy grooves, sick slams and blast furnace vocals. Stillbirth are heavier and faster in 2021 but with groove very much at the forefront of their sound. More...
New Aquilus Album Set For December Release
Atmospheric metal band Aquilus return with their second full-length album "Bellum I" on December 3rd via Blood Music.
The enigmatic, atmospheric metal band became one of the most whispered-about secrets in the metal scene, following the quiet release of their debut album "Griseus" in 2011.
A 2013 vinyl release rocketed the band into public consciousness, and "Griseus" slowly amassed a following of devoted fans, climbing its way to being voted one of the top albums of the decade on MetalStorm.
For eight years, a follow-up masterpiece was-in-the-making. The opus grew so furiously, the decision was ultimately made to split the work into two parts, culminating with the release of the first album, Bellum I. More...

Ghost Posts New Music Video Online
A series of inspired encounters between creative forces from various worlds of sound and vision has resulted in "Hunter’s Moon", the infectious first new track from Ghost since 2019’s "Seven Inches Of Satanic Panic," and its phantasmagoric video directed by Amanda Demme.
The genesis of "Hunter’s Moon" can be traced back to Ghost's November 16, 2018 show at the Forum in Los Angeles. Ryan Turek, Vice President of Feature Film Development at Blumhouse Productions (Get Out, Insidious, The Purge, Us, Whiplash) would attend the sold-out show, striking up an instant rapport with Ghost's Tobias Forge - one that developed quickly and deeply via meetings, podcast appearances, and ultimately a visit with co-writer and director David Gordon Green on the North Carolina set of the upcoming Halloween Kills.
Three years nearly to the day since that first fateful exchange, Ghost's "Hunter’s Moon" has materialized on DSPs, will play as the Halloween Kills end credits roll, and will be released January 21, 2022 as a collectible 7-inch single by Loma Vista Recordings. "Hunter’s Moon" can be streamed, purchased, and/or pre-ordered in its vinyl incarnation here. The retail version of the 7-inch will feature the special B-side, "Halloween Kills (Main Title)", performed, produced and engineered by John Carpenter, Cody Carpenter, and Daniel Davies. More...

Wolftooth To Release New Album In December
Richmond, Indiana’s Wolftooth launched onto the scene in 2017, swiftly grabbing the attention of fans, tastemakers and industry alike. Now, building upon the subterranean success of their lauded previous albums (2018’s "Wolftooth" and 2020’s "Valhalla"), the band unveils their colossal full-length Napalm Records debut, "Blood & Iron," out December 3, 2021.
Offering an immense slab of proto-metal influenced heaviness with a deep dose of doom essence and addictive stoner riffage, "Blood & Iron" isn’t just epic in sound, but at heart. The album travels through a treasure trove of fantasy-themed lyrical influences – exploring mystical and often treacherous themes of mythology, lore and legend with a focus on sorcery, battle and non-stop adventure. Recorded, mixed and mastered by producer Jeremy Lovins, "Blood & Iron" is a true nod to classic, feel-good American heavy metal with modernized flair.
Today, listeners can get a first taste of Blood & Iron with victorious first single "The Voyage," accompanied by a brand new music video filmed in Indianapolis, Indiana by Mike Yonts. Fists will be pumping within the first few notes as the track triumphantly gallops forth with chugging riffs, soaring vocals, piercing basslines and powerful melodies.
Wolftooth says about "The Voyage" and its music video:
"The concept of 'The Voyage' was initially about Marco Polo's voyage on the Silk Road, but we adapted it to our voyage through our musical careers from young children to now. The boys in the video represent us as kids in the beginning of our voyage, daydreaming about where we are now. All in all, the song is based on the idea of what it takes to reach your destination – the sacrifices, pitfalls, and ultimately the rewards that come along when striving for your goals." More...
