Australia's TheAge.com.au is reporting that a devoted follower of a Scandinavian band notorious for its heavy metal anti-Christian music burnt down a majestic Moonee Ponds church in a multimillion-dollar arson attack.
Novak Majstorovic (photo) had drunken visions of the 107-year-old Ascot Vale Uniting Church being responsible for society's problems with law, ethics and morality.
Majstorovic, 19, admitted his passion for the band BURZUM, whose lead singer was allegedly involved in burning down numerous Norwegian churches in the 1990s, helped create a heavy metal ideological imagery based on good and evil.
"It can be explained through any real meanings, you know, but using God and Satan is just like a... it's an image," he told police after his arrest.
Victorian arson squad detectives treated Majstorovic as a suspect after investigations revealed his interest in BURZUM and "black metal" music and culture. More...
A limited-edition box set pre-ENTOMBED recordings is tentatively scheduled for release this fall/winter via Threeman Recordings. "This box will not only be a limited luxurious lookin' motha, it will also have all kinds of rare NIHILIST recordings on it and even some pre-NIHILIST stuff such as BRAINWARP and more!" reads a statement from the label.
Threeman Recordings recently issued a one-CD collection of NIHILIST demos, entitled simply "Nihilist". The album features liner notes from former Metal Maniacs contibutor/current label manager for Century Media Records, Ula Gehret.
BIOMECHANICAL have just completed work on the first video from their forthcoming metal symphony 'The Empires Of The Worlds' with UK director Adam Mason. The video, for the title track of the album, is sure to be a groundbreaking piece of work reflecting vocalist John K.¹s love of cinematic soundscapes, with nods to 'Aliens' and 'Apocalypse Now¹.
Recovering from an arduous shoot, vocalist John K. had this to say
"Shooting this video was hard work to say the least but we thoroughly enjoyed it!! The professionalism of the crew was very evident and that gave us a confidence that will hopefully show in the vid. Director Adam Mason and the rest of the crew did a great job and personally I can't wait to see the final cut!"
CKY have set a June 28 release date through Island Def Jam for their third album, "An Answer Can Be Found".
Commented CKY guitarist/vocalist Deron Miller: "Our album is finally completed and all I can say is that it's a masterpiece. We have busted our asses for the last year pushing our abilities and talents to outdo what we have done in the past, and without disrespecting our other records, I feel this one blows them away. We have succesfully progressed beyond our expectations. I want to extend congratulations to Chad Ginsburg for producing and mixing this record top-fucking-notch and taking the level of this band even further than I ever imagined, and to Jess Margera for delivering the drumming that this album called for.
"To the CKY Alliance worldwide...this record is totally for you. We are grateful to you for sticking with us for so long and I know you will be pleased. Much appreciation to Paul Pontius, Island Records and our management team for believing in us and letting us do exactly what we needed and wanted to do...make the best rock record of 2005..."

The digital airwaves are bracing for a flesh-peeling scalpel fight Saturday, May 7th when members of goremasters Impaled invade Abrasive Rock’s chatroom www.abrasiverock.com at 2:00 PM EST/11:00 AM PST. Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine has posted the following Gigantour update in the "Forums" sections of the band's official web site:
OK, now here is some dirt on the first and second stage: I wanted to have the first stage be powerful and the second stage be a glimpse into the future bands that are either influenced, fans, or friends of mine and Megadeth. I did say that I had 'this band' or 'that band' in my sights, but I have seriously narrowed down the list.
I am still interested in Dry Kill Logic, Overkill, Dead New Day, Re:Ignition, Life Of Agony, Children Of Bodom, The Agony Scene, Diecast, Symphony X, Otep, and believe it or not, Anthrax and Testament. There are a lot more bands still trying to get onboard, but I think I will just have to make a list for next year.
My dilemma is this; the West Coast run will not have The Dillinger Escape Plan on for the first several shows. I am still deciding to either fill that slot or just go on as a four band show for the main stage. I would love to have Anthrax or Overkill on the main stage with us all, but I don't want to offend Anthrax by offering them that slot unless they really want to take it, and I don't know if Overkill are available yet.
After that, there will be more shows at the end of the tour where Dream Theater will have finished and I need to fill that slot (If I do) at that time.
This tour will run from mid-July to mid-September and will also include Texas, Georgia, and Florida this time, as well as another stint across Canada at the end of the tour.
We have been made offers to go to Mexico City and Monterey, Mexico on the Gigantour run; and Santiago, Chile; and Sao Paolo, Brazil in October on our own. I will not go down to South America without playing Argentina or Columbia too, so don't worry. We just have to work out the details.
Please stay tuned so that I can give you more of the official news real soon.
Meanwhile, the first two dates have been announced for Gigantour. Confirmed dates so far are as follows:
08/23 - Wantagh, NY @ Tommy Hilfiger At Jones Beach Theater
08/24 – Holmdel, NJ @ PNC Bank Arts Center
Heavy metallers Cradle of Filth are yearning for an extraordinary collaboration - with clean cut pop legend Sir Cliff Richard.
The tattooed rockers recorded a heavily-reworked version of Richard's Devin Woman and are keen to find out what the "Peter Pan of pop" thinks of their efforts - and if he'd consider duetting with them.
Guitarist James McLlroy says, "It would be interesting to know if he's heard it. I doubt he's a fan.
"Imagine a collaboration! Christmas number one!"
HindustanTimes.com is reporting that MEGADETH, STEVE VAI and BILLY SHEEHAN are among the musicians that are scheduled to perform in India before the end of the year. "The artists have confirmed their tours around the end of the year and Delhi will certainly be part of the plan for some of these stars. Plans are also underway for rock god Eric Clapton's show early next year," says Cyrus Gorimar, proprietor of Opium, the event management firm that is organizing the concerts.
Joe Satriani is scheduled to play in Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore on May 13, 15 and 17 respectively. He’ll be accompanied by acknowledged musicians like Jeff Campetelli on drums, Matt Bissonette on bass and Galen Henson on rhythm guitar.
"We are all very excited, as this is our first time in India. So be there," Satriani told HT City.
