Chimaira Post New Song For Download

A brand-new CHIMAIRA track, entitled "Nothing Remains", has been posted online at this location.

"Nothing Remains" comes off the group's upcoming self-titled album, due on August 9 via Roadrunner Records.

The follow-up to 2003's "The Impossibility of Reason", "Chimaira" was recorded at Spider Studios in Ohio with producer Ben Schigel, who has described the new material as having "more of an epic kind of vibe. The songs are a lot longer, but we found a way to make them long without being boring. Now that it's coming together, it sounds way more brutal." Mixing duties were handled by Colin Richardson (MACHINE HEAD, FEAR FACTORY, NAPALM DEATH).

Commented CHIMAIRA frontman Mark Hunter: "What's up friends? So we are super excited for you all to hear 'Nothing Remains' today. It is going to be the first song on the new album and we truly feel it sets up the record perfectly. I can't say that this is what the rest of the record sounds like, because each song has its own personality...but I will say a lot of what happens on this song you can expect from other tracks. Hope that makes sense...haha."

Satyricon's New Album In The Works

SATYRICON have posted the following update at their official website:

"We recently recorded a test/demo for a couple of new songs for the new album in progress. We wanted to try a new studio, some new techs and some new equipment that we are considering for the new record. We were unhappy with many things and it is back to the 'think tank' and the drawing board in some areas. The songs we recorded however seem to be in very healthy shape as the feedback we have been getting from the people who've heard them has been absolutely overwhelming!

Interview With The Esoteric

This is an e- mail interview with The Esoteric's frontman Steve Cruz.

Gothique: The band features members of hardcore pioneers Coalesce and also Today Is The Day. How did you guys start playing together?

Steve: Cory, Eric, and Anthony (all the string players) have been playing as The Esoteric since high school, even through Coalesce and Reggie, The Esoteric were always together. While Marshal and I were in high school we were playing in a band as well. Marshal joined Today Is The Day and I moved to Lawrence and after stalking the "Eso" for a few years joined them. Marshal came to visit and he was into what we were doing, so after our previous drummer quit, Marshal joined and now here we are.

Soulfly Dispute Russian's Account Of Incident

SOULFLY have issued a statement disputing the account offered by a Russian politician regarding an incident in Moscow late last month which caused the group to cancel their concerts in the Russian Far East cities of Vladivostok and Khabarovsk.

MosNews.com had previously reported that SOULFLY were boarding a plane from Moscow to Vladivostok on April 29 when Valery Kan, a local MP in the city of Ussuriisk, attempted to take SOULFLY mainman Max Cavalera's (ex-SEPULTURA) stepdaughter Roxanne to the business class section of the plane, SOULFLY's Russian promoters, FeeLee Management, were quoted by a Vladivostok television company as saying. Bobaflex Confirmed For Gigantour

MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has posted the following message in the "Forums" section of the band's official web site:

"It is my privilege to introduce to you the next confirmed act to the mighty Gigantour festival! Playing in the fourth spot on second stage… Drum roll please.... BOBAFLEX!

"These guys are cool. Hope you think so too. Check 'em out."

Gigantour is a six-week festival trek co-headlined by MEGADETH and DREAM THEATER. Other main-stage acts include FEAR FACTORY, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN and NEVERMORE. Also scheduled to appear on the second stage are DRY KILL LOGIC and SYMPHONY X.

Based out of West Virginia, BOBAFLEX recently signed a multi-album deal with TVT Records. The band will release their sophomore full-length effort, entitled "Bright Red Violent Sex", this summer. The follow-up to "Primitive Epic" (Eclipse Records) is expected to include the track "The Guardian", which the band apparently wrote in in honor of Columbus police officer James D. Niggemeyer (Niggemeyer is widely credited for saving lives on Dec. 8, 2004 when he entered the Alrosa Villa club without backup and killed a crazed gunman responsible for blowing away four people, including former PANTERA guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott).

Former Heathen Bassist Passes Away

Former HEATHEN bassist Mike "Yaz" Jastremski passed away this morning (May 23). No further information is currently available.

Jastremski performed on HEATHEN's classic 1987 debut "Breaking the Silence" before leaving the group a short time later to form PIGS. He eventually rejoined HEATHEN in time for their appearance at the August 2001 Thrash of the Titans benefit concert for TESTAMENT frontman Chuck Billy.

HEATHEN parted ways with Jastremski in June 2004 over what was rumored at the time to be Yaz's "continued drug and drinking problems." He was replaced in the group by Jon Torres, who had previously participated in such bands as THUNDERHEAD, WARNING SF, ULYSSES SIREN, LAAZ ROCKIT and ANGEL WITCH.

HEATHEN guitarist Lee Altus said at the time of Yaz's final departure from the band, "We're sorry to see [Yaz] go and wish him all the best. He is a good friend and I'm glad that we parted ways without any animosity and can still remain best of friends."

Griffin Frontman Steps Down

Norwegian metallers GRIFFIN have posted the following message on their official web site:

"Due to personal reasons, Pete [Beck, vocals] won’t be able to join us for the upcoming festival appearances in Norway! Pete recently did the release concert for 'Lifeforce' with us, and did a great job. He also did a video shoot for the song 'Utopia' before he decided to step down. His condition right now is not suited for the rockin' and rollin' we're gonna do this summer. This doesn’t mean we're cancelling anything... GRIFFIN never cancels! We promise you all that the quality of our performances will not be affected by this... unless you have a fetish for guys with beards. A longtime friend of the band, and a former bandmate of Pete, will handle the vocals for the forthcoming gigs. We will shortly introduce him properly. And we know that he’s really anxious to introduce himself. We've always wanted to have a steady line-up, because we feel that this would give the band an identity, but we've come to learn that the MUSIC gives this band identity AND credibility. So…..watch this space for further info, check out the HIGHLY critically acclaimed album entitled 'Lifeforce', and rest assured that we WILL deliver the goods wherever we play! Thanx for your support!"

GRIFFIN's fourth full-length album, "Lifeforce", is available now on FaceFront Records. The Japanese edition of the album will contain a bonus track called "Unforgiver", featuring KING DIAMOND's Andy LaRocque on lead guitar.

The follow-up to last year's "No Holds Barred" was recorded at Godt Selskap studios in Trondheim, Norway and was mixed by LaRoque at his Los Angered Studio in Gothenburg, Sweden. Audio samples of the tracks "Utopia", "Dungeon", "Premonition", "Moment of Madness", "Building A Future" and "Accelerate" can be downloaded at this location.

Davis: New Korn Album Is 'Funky, Heavy And Dark'

Despite previous reports to the contrary, the title of KORN's forthcoming CD is not "Souvenir of Sadness". KORN frontman Jonathan Davis has told MTV.com that the upcoming disc hasn't been given a proper title just yet; although, he admits, "Souvenir of Sadness", one of the album's cuts, is in the running, along with a host of other possibilities.

With regards to the new album's musical direction, Davis said, "It's funky, it's heavy, it's dark and sometimes, industrial-tinged. Working with so many different people and everything, it's made it out to be a really well-rounded album of a lot of different things. It's definitely KORN, it's definitely groove-oriented. But it's our most experimental album to date. We're very excited. We're all sitting around, when we listen to it, looking at each other going, 'I can't believe that's us.' I think people are really going to dig it. It's not like the first KORN album, where it's very aggressive and screaming all over the place. There's that in this album, yes, but I've taken all of the years of six albums, and taken what I've learned from that and molded it into one, and thrown a big twist on it. It's really hard to explain without hearing it. But it's very large and in charge and massively heavy. There's a lot of melody in it, a lot of screaming — just a lot of amazing things in it."

KORN lost one of their founding members, Brian "Head" Welch, to the unlikely culprit of Christianity back in late February; guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer has been pulling double duty in the studio since Head's departure. None of this, Davis says, has had much of an effect on the recording process, though.

"Head had been having problems for years, and he wasn't really there. ... For a lot of the records, he was there, but he wasn't there," Davis said. "When we were writing, he did his thing. But we're not going to replace him. With Head leaving, it would be weird having another guitar player in KORN. I'd never say it will never happen, but right now, we're going to be a four-piece. I don't know if we'll have somebody onstage or we'll have someone playing guitar maybe offstage. We'll figure that out. We haven't even gotten to that point. Having someone new onstage would be weird. We've been a band for 12 years, and to have that guy missing, it would be weird to just jump in and have someone else there. Things may change."
