The Associated Press is reporting that NINE INCH NAILS mainman Trent Reznor told a jury on Tuesday (May 17) that firing his longtime manager after the finances of his band deteriorated was "like a divorce."
Testifying on his 40th birthday in a civil case he brought against John Malm, the singer said he was left with little choice when he realized that the finances he had ignored for 15 years were in disarray.
"The last place I wanted to end up was sitting here right now," Reznor said from the witness stand in U.S. District Court in Manhattan. "This is like a divorce."
Under questioning by Malm's lawyer, Alan Hirth, Reznor admitted that he wrote a letter in the 1990s in which he said Malm would be his manager "until he chooses not to do so."
Reznor testified Monday that he had as little as $400,000 in cash in 2003 after hundreds of thousands a dollars annually were lost on unnecessary expenses.
Reznor also contends that Malm duped him into signing a contract that allowed the former manager to collect 20 percent of the singer's gross earnings rather than net earnings. He's seeking unspecified damages.
Hirth elicited through his questioning of Reznor that the singer was actively involved in many of the band's business dealings but sometimes chose not to read contracts and financial information before signing documents.
NINE INCH NAILS' latest single, "The Hand That Feeds", is No. 2 on Billboard's Top 20 list of modern rock tracks.
Guitar World magazine asked several rockers "What's your most 'Spinal Tap' moment?" Ozzy Osbourne remembered when he lost his patience with the midget Black Sabbath hired for a tour. "He showed up late, he drank....It got to me after awhile," Osbourne explained. "So, one night, when he wanted to get on the tour bus, I threw him in the luggage compartment. Somebody grabbed me and said: 'What you're doing is not only illegal but it's inhumane.' I lost it. I yelled: 'He's my [bleeping] midget and I'll [bleeping] do what I want with him.' There was a silence and then a small voice emerged from the luggage compartment: 'He's right: I'm his midget and he can do what he wants with me.'" Sweden’s National TV Broadcaster, SVT, have signed an agreement to film and broadcast Iron Maiden Live at their sold out show at the Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg on July 9th. This makes history as the first time any artist has had their show broadcast in full, nationwide in Sweden since Live Aid back in 1985. The show is also being broadcast by National TV broadcaster YLE in Finland.
SVT will be broadcasting the show live directly on SVT2 from the Ullevi Stadium while in Finland, YLE, will be broadcasting with a one hour delay.
The Ullevi Stadium show promises to be the showcase of the bands upcoming European Tour as the Stadium will be rammed with 55,000 Maiden fans who were lucky enough to get tickets in the rush that saw the show completely sell out within two and a half hours of going on sale last November following 75,000 ticket applications!! After Bruce Springsteen this is the second fastest sellout of a stadium show in Sweden ever. Similar reactions have happened in both Norway with 17000 tickets and Finland with 22000 tickets, both selling out in incredibly quick time.
Says Steve Harris,'We've always enjoyed massive support from our Swedish fans and in many ways it's like a home match for us in the welcome we always receive . The band always love playing there and we are looking to put on a spectacular show for everyone there and all the fans who will be watching at home. It's a fantastic way to finish the European tour thanks to SVT and we're working with them to make sure this will be a great moment of TV history for both of us.'
Iron Maiden will be performing songs almost exclusively from their legendary first four albums which saw them become one of Rock and Metals biggest Icons, a position they have maintained consistently for 25 years
Manager Rod Smallwood explains, 'This European Tour will be the biggest we have ever done in terms of the number of fans we will play to so we want to make it very special. Following the theme of the very successful 'Early Days' DVD we are taking these first four albums and tours as the theme for the set list and for the Production of the show, which will be featuring some of the ideas incorporated in the early days of the band, particularly on The Beast on the Road Tour and the World Piece Tour. This is going to be huge and a unique treat for our fans... and anyone else!!!”
The broadcast will go out on SVT2 and is scheduled to start at 9.15pm. The show is to be broadcast in regular stereo but also in 5.1 Surround Sound allowing fans at home who can decode the signal to be able to feel as though they are right there in the stadium.

Rage frontman Peter "Peavey" Wagner has posted an update on his condition after he was hit by a car on last week while he was riding his bicycle. The driver of the car reportedly didn't give Peavy right of way, resulting in injuries to Peavy's arm. Commented Peavy:
I'm back home now. They wanted to keep me longer in hospital, but I left on my own responsibility. The pain is OK now, and I had enough of just lying there.
I can only type with my left hand and it hurts a bit. My right elbow was fractured in my bike crash, and in a two-hour operation the doctors managed to fix all the bone parts. It was a bit complicated, and I have now more metal inside!! A few screws and stuff...
My left arm is also injured, but I can use it a bit. I have to keep the broken arm in this big heavy splint for the next 6-8 weeks, I have rehabilitation and physiotherapeutics to get it back to moving. I hope I'll be fine again by July. We try to do the show in Italy on 4th of June, maybe I can play some rudimentary bass. Besides this I can only stay home now and rest to get better.
I thank you all for your good wishes, this gives me a lot of energy I can use now!
I'll be all right and play for you again!!
Rage follow-up to 2003's "Soundchaser" is expected in early 2006.
