SUICIDAL TENDENCIES have cancelled their previously announced European tour. A statement from the band's booking agency, M.A.D. Tourbooking (web site) reads as follows:
"Unfortunately we have to cancel the SUICIDAL TENDENCIES tour 2005, scheduled for this summer. Due to serious health problems of singer Mike Muir the band is not able to come over to Europe. As soon as we have news regarding a new timeperiod, we'll let you know."
It's called Gigantour, and it's the brainchild of MEGADETH frontman/guitarist Dave Mustaine.
Set to launch in late July, Gigantour is a six-week festival trek co-headlined by MEGADETH and DREAM THEATER, who'll be accompanied by other main-stage acts FEAR FACTORY, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN and NEVERMORE. Artists for the second stage will be announced in the coming weeks.
Gigantour follows MEGADETH's sold-out 2004 "Blackmail The Universe" tour in support of 2004's "The System Has Failed" — MEGADETH's tenth studio album — which debuted on the charts at #18 and was critically hailed as a brilliant return to form. Bandmates Glen Drover (guitar), James MacDonough (bass) and Shawn Drover (drums) will once again join Mustaine on the road.
Gigantour — whose moniker was inspired by the classic 1960s cartoon "Gigantor" — will criss-cross North America, with stops in amphitheatres and arenas in cities including Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, Montreal, Washington, Philadelphia, Boston, Denver and Minneapolis, among others. The tour is implementing the "fan-friendly" ticket price of approximately $35 each. Mustaine notes: "I think people may want an affordable alternative to the choices out there — along the lines of a pure music festival — like Monsters of Rock or Clash of the Titans."
Mustaine handpicked the bands for Gigantour, with a focus on musicianship. "There are few very successful tours out each summer and in order to be significant, I knew the first Gigantour had to make an impact with top bands like DREAM THEATER, FEAR FACTORY, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN and NEVERMORE." Mustaine wanted to "put together a festival that consisted of positive bands that play heavy music in a high energy environment."
Mustaine comments on the other bands he's chosen for the Gigantour main stage. "I think that the variety of playing styles and the credibility of the different players is really exciting. I'm looking forward to spending time with DREAM THEATER — including my friend Mike Portnoy — while on the road. I think DREAM THEATER is unbelievably talented. I can't wait to see what their set list is going to be for this festival."
Mike Portnoy from DREAM THEATER comments on the band's perspective on the tour: "I think we probably bring some diversity to the bill, because we're kind of like chameleons — we can fit into a lot of different situations. We've done shows in the past with IRON MAIDEN, SLAYER and PANTERA, and then we've also done shows with ELTON JOHN, YES and DEEP PURPLE. I think our fan base is very diverse like that too." Portnoy sees Gigantour as a "kind of a meeting of musicians and metal-heads." He adds: "I've been listening to MEGADETH since day one and always admired them and Dave as an artist — he constantly stuck to his guns and stuck by the music he believes in. MEGADETH are one of the pioneers of the genre." Gigantour marks the first U.S. leg of DREAM THEATER dates in support of their forthcoming release "Octavarium", due out June 7 on Atlantic Records.
Mustaine first toured with FEAR FACTORY in 1994. "I think FEAR FACTORY and THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN are really going to add something different to the tour and bring some new people in." He continues, "The frontman of NEVERMORE [Warrel Dane] used to be in a band called SANCTUARY and I produced their first record."
Mustaine is excited to hit the road and has a positive outlook for Gigantour. "I look forward to watching this develop over the years and seeing how we can turn this into something that's going to stand the test of time. And if this works, and it really works, maybe we'll take it elsewhere."
Stay tuned for tour dates, venues and information about the second-stage bands to be announced soon.
Former SPINESHANK frontman Jonny Santos has issued the following update on his SILENT CIVILIANS project:
"Just wanna update everyone on what's happening. As of right now, we have about 13 songs written and we are still going strong six days a week. We want to apologize for the time we are taking, but if there is one thing I've learned in the past it's that you can't force out good music. I will say that the material is very, very heavy. Heavier than anything I have ever done, including SPINESHANK. Don't worry, I still sing in parts, but the music is much more guitar-driven than SPINESHANK was, and there is a lot of double bass and heavy drum playing. This is why I always wanted another guitar player when I was in the SHANK, I just don't think you can compete with only one guitar player in your band unless you're fuckin Dimebag or Eddie Van Halen!!
"Ryan and I both are doing guitar solos in almost every song because I think it's the way it should be. METAL!! The songs average in about 4-6 minutes in length. a few almost 7 minutes. We are writing a record for real metalheads, not the pop culture. There will be no filler on this record at all. Just a full-blown metal assault on your ears and your neighbors ears too!! More...
THE PROJECT HATE, the Swedish band featuring Jörgen Sandström of ENTOMBED/GRAVE fame on lead vocals, are currently recording their new album with producer Dan Swanö at several studios in Örebro, Stockholm and Gothenburg, Sweden. The band have posted the following studio update on their official web site:
"We just finished recording all of Jo's parts in Örebro, Sweden, and we are very chuffed with the outcome. 2 days of hard work and it all fell into place, and alot of credit goes to studio owner/vocal coach Robban who lived and breathed our material during the weekend. He's pushed Jo in a lot of different directions and really made her do her best work ever. We thank him and look forward to work with him again.
"All that's left now is for EVERGREY bassist Michael [Håkansson] to nail the last 3 songs and then we can start mixing this thing at Dan Swanö's studio.
"Armageddon is getting closer by the second..."

Vocalist/guitarist Victor Gonzalez also stated a video is in the works.
Ron Dake, president of Rotting Corpse Records, states the following:
"We are very excited to be taking these guys on! You don't come across their brand of brutality every day."
Judas Priest Management Coordinator Jayne Andrews has issued the following statement: "Due to the very sad passing of the Pope, the Judas Priest show in Katowice on Wednesday, 6th April has had to be cancelled. This is totally beyond our control. The President of Poland has declared all entertainment venues must cancel their shows in respect of 5 days of mourning for the Pope. We will of course try and reschedule this show at a later date. Once we confirm any details we will announce them [on the band's official web site]."

Darkane have posted the following news at their official website on March 29:
At 7:00am this morning Peter and Klas burned the final version of "Layers Of Lies" on a CD-R after another long night of mixing. The end result is a very brutal, but clear production. The performance from the band is better than ever and the vocals are very raw and aggressive, yet melodic and powerful. Here is the total track list:
'Amnesia Of The Wildoerian Apocalypse'
'Layers Of Lies'
'Vision Of Degradation'
'The Creation Insane'
A Japanese bonus track called 'Subliminal Seduction' has also been recorded. Tomorrow, "Layers of Lies" will be mastered and then sent to Nuclear Blast for printing.
The cover art work will be revealed in a few days.
"Layers Of Lies" will hit the stores on Juni 27.

As previously reported, Meshuggah's new studio album, "Catch 33," is scheduled for release on May 16 in Europe and May 31 in the U.S.. The follow-up to 2002's "Nothing" is being described as one continuous 47-minute song divided into 13 parts and is said to be "musically the opposite" of the group's 2004 EP, "I."
The artwork, which was designed by Meshuggah drummer Tomas Haake, is "a visual compliment of sorts to the album title, i.e the paradoxes/negations/contradictions of life and death (as we see it in our finest moments of unrestrained metaphoric interpretation) that the lyrics deal with!" according to Haake.
Sweden's In Flames will be opening for Motley Crue on their two Finnish dates in early June. The details are as follows.
Jun. 07 Helsinki, FIN @ Icehall (Monsters Of The Millennium)
Jun. 08 Turku, FIN @ Ellysee Arena (Rock In Turku)
In other news, the two In Flames guitarists/songwriters Björn Gelotte and Jesper Strömblad decided in 2003 to start a project that is somewhat different from what they usually do. The idea was to create a band that is far removed from the music they are famous for. They had a clear vision of how this should sound.
Together with experienced musical artist Tinna Karlsdotter and Björn's sister Emma Gelotte they recorded a few songs as the first All Ends demo. The resultant recording, which is said to be "quite far away from In Flames," is currently being shopped to interested labels.

The new Diecast single for the track “Rise and Oppose” is currently featured in a national Volkswagen commercial. To view the commercial click here. The group recently shot a new video for the track with acclaimed director Kevin Leonard (Himsa, Terror, Walls of Jericho); look for it to make its Fuse and MTV2 debut late this month.
Diecast recently completed an extensive European tour alongside Agnostic Front in support of "Tearing Down Your Blue Skies," their highly acclaimed new album. Jeremy Wooden (bass) checks in with the following tour report: “We had the most amazing time in Europe and are currently back home relaxing. Once again we would like to thank Agnostic Front and everyone in their crew for being so good to us and treating us like family. It was an honor to be on tour with such great bands and great people. The shows in Europe were all packed and Agnostic Front is nearly as big as David Hasselhoff (although David is the only one cool enough to wear Christmas Tree lights on his jacket). We can't wait to tour with Agnostic Front and DBD again. Don't miss them on tour together this spring in the U.S.
“As for Diecast, we will be returning to Europe from May 28th - July 17th to tour with the mighty Napalm Death and Most Precious Blood. We will be playing a bunch of festivals as well as off-dates in between. Look for a full U.S. tour in late summer or early fall and we will do everything we can to make sure we play in some of the areas that we missed on our tours with Hatebreed earlier this year. We have a new video for ‘Rise and Oppose’ so be on the lookout for that on MTV2 later this month. It’s nothing like any of the videos you usually see for heavier bands these days. We went for more of a David Lee Roth meets old-school Beastie Boys vibe for this one. We will see everyone soon and thanks to all our fans and everyone who has signed up for the Diecast army.”
Rammstein took home two prizes at the annual Echo awards (German equivalent of the Grammys), which were held Saturday (April 2) at the Estrel Convention Center in Berlin.
Rammstein received an Echo for Artist/Group of the Year in the category New Rock/Metal/Alternative and another in the category Best Live Act. The band performed their latest single, "Keine Lust", during the awards ceremony, entering the stage in a white limousine and performing the track in the "larger-than-life" outfits they wear in the song's video.
