Helheim Releases New Music Video

After releasing ninth full-length album “landwarijaR,” Norwegian Viking metal crew Helheim now unleashes a second video from the album. Check out “Ymr” below.

Like the preceding video for "Baklengs mot intet,” new clip “Ymr” was directed by Guilherme Henriques, and this time the band concentrates on live footage from Inside Live & Rock Café bt Mathis Backe interspersed with film of some of the glorious scenery that surrounds Helheim's home town of Bergen.

Helheim's V’gandr explains: “With 'Ymr' Helheim explores the terrain that might result from the complete enlightenment of knowledge. The tree of life is the symbol of this path and you may wonder if this enlightenment is of a positive or of a negative energy. When the One with the one eye closes it, that is when we must open up ours and see what lies ahead. 'Ymr' is the primal scream, the essence of man and to grow from there you have to climb. Whereas 'Baklengs mot intet' showed no hope in its cloak of negativity, 'Ymr' might kindle a tiny spark – but that’s up to the eye of the beholder or should I say, the ears of the listener.” More...

Faithxtractor Signs With Hells Headbangers

Hells Headbangers today announces the signing of Faithxtractor, and the first fruit of this union shall be Faithxtractor's third album, slated for release during the second half of 2017.

This third full-length album, tentatively titled "Proverbial Lambs to the Ultimate Slaughter," is now well into the tracking process at the band’s own Frequenscream Studios. Unconcerned with scene schemes and useless labeling tags, Faithxtractor will continue down the dark path set forth on previous releases while forever moving forward into darkened territory. The prime directive: sick riffs, metal & death.

"We are honored and very pleased to have the opportunity to release our next album through Hells Headbangers," says Ash Thomas. "Having worked with them personally on other projects, I've come to greatly respect their work ethic and dedication. We are extremely proud of the death metal we've created for album #3, and it's very assuring to have a label such as Hell Headbangers behind the coming onslaught!" More...

Tim Lambesis Reportedly Released From Jail

Update: Altpress.com just issued this announcement: "When AP reached out to the California Department Of Corrections And Rehabilitation to find out if Lambesis was still interred in a California prison, a representative confirmed that he was discharged Dec. 17, 2016. He was discharged to the Division of Adult Parole Operations."

Back in 2014, former As I Lay Dying member Tim Lambesis was sentenced to six years in prison for attempting to hire an undercover police officer to kill his wife.

Although it hasn't been confirmed by any official sources at this point, multiple sites are reporting that Lambesis has now been released from prison.

The source for his info comes from George Lynch on Eddie Trunk's Show from the Monsters of Rock Cruise. During the interview, Lynch discussed his religion debates with Tim Lambesis and stated Tim has been released and has a book and record label deal.

You can hear the interview segment below, and a transcript follows:

I had every freaking argument out there, and he just was able to really kind of battle every argument, 'cause he had every counter-argument prepared in his mind; he had studied so hard. And as silly as his argument was, and as much as it didn't really hold water when you thought about it — it was all fallacious arguments — but…

Anyways, he just got out of jail for attempting to kill his wife. Now I'm not saying this as an indictment against anything. All I'm saying is, there is a guy who could argue Christianity beyond anybody I've ever spoken to in my life; I had these very heated debates with this guy… He had a beautiful wife; they had adopted three Cambodian children. And then he discovered cocaine, strippers, heroin and steroids. He went completely off the rails, abandoned his family, his wife threatened to divorce him, he hired an off-duty cop to kill her.

He recently got out of jail. He destroyed his band. They don't have a pot to piss in now; they're all struggling. [They are] a great band. I know them very well because, actually, the guitar player was my daughter's fiancé. And, actually, the drummer [Jordan Mancino] played in another project I had ways back, Souls Of We. So, anyways, he's out, he's got a mega record deal, he's got a book deal, everything's lined up for him. I mean, he's gonna skate through life. Everybody else is suffering. His wife is living in fear, his children are living in fear. His band doesn't have a pot to piss in.

Following the arrest and band implosion, Tim's former bandmates went on to form Wovenwar, and have since released two albums: a self-titled debut and 2016 sophomore output "Honor Is Dead." More...

Fen Streaming "I (Pathway)"

"Winter" is the impending new full-length album from atmospheric black metal crew Fen. Set for release on March 10th via Aural Music imprint Code666, the six-track production and fifth full-length overall was captured by Jaime Gomez Arellano at the Orgone Studios in London (Ulver, Altar Of Plagues, Grave Miasma, Primordial, Solstafir).

As a precursor to its release, today opening track "I (Pathway)" is offered up for communal feasting. Issues the band of the consuming track:

"This opening chapter ushers in on the sibilant, sinister winds that slice across the mist-wreathed peat bogs of the fens. It represents the start of the journey - uncertainty and resolve warring with each tread across a landscape laced with questions, ghostly voices of past failings drifting from stagnant waterways and thin lines of bent trees. Drawing ever closer on the horizon lies the cathedral - a rearing megalith bleeding the promise of succour across the landscape.

"What will be found there? Penance? Redemption? Or something as-yet unsought? 'I' presents sixteen minutes of FEN delivering their trademark blend of punishing black metal and desolate, delicate atmospherics - nevertheless, the cold darkness that lurks at the heart of Winter is palpable throughout the track as it unfurls. It is an inexorable journey towards an ominous fate, the pull of destiny at once unyielding and yet ephemeral, nebulous. Musically, the band alloy subtle progressive touches and experimentation alongside a forceful, seismic delivery whilst The Watcher and Grungyn's vocals seem to summon the very spirits that sank millennia ago into the dark soils." Cryptopsy To Perform "None So Vile" In Full

In celebration of the twentieth anniversary of "None So Vile," Cryptopsy will be bringing the entirety of that album to the masses as part of the third annual "Devastation On The Nation" tour, which kicks off this coming May. The following press release was issued about the trek:

"Before there was Cryptospy, there was a never-ending void of nothingness. Just as existence exploded onto the scene some 13.8 billion years ago, the year 1996 saw the birth of technical death metal delivered at bewildering and perplexing-yet-proficient velocities. This was the year of 'NONE SO VILE.' As that now-classic title implies, there had yet to be - and never will be - None. So. Vile.

"From the terrifying roar of opener 'Crown Of Horns,' to the Army Of Darkness-procured sound clip of closer 'Orgiastic Disembowelment,' audiences will be pummeled into submission with all 32 minutes of this Northern Hyperblasting slab of extremity.

"Joining Cryptospy is a who's who of brute-tech force, which includes tech-death legends Decrepit Birth, Rivers Of Nihil, The Zenith Passage, The Kennedy Veil, and Visceral Disgorge. Rounding out this cataclysmic assemblage are musical extremists Seeker and GLoom." More...

"Damn The Machine" Book Coming In March

Deliberation Press and Iron Pages Books have announced a March 24th, 2017 English/German language release of "Damn the Machine - The Story of Noise Records."

Authored by American metal journalist David E. Gehlke, the book features cover art by Voivod drummer Michel "Away" Langevin, and a foreword penned by Blind Guardian vocalist Hansi Kürsch. The book's inner design was handled by EasyRabbit CreArtions, the team behind Helloween's 2015 career-spanning "Hellbook."

At over 500 pages, "Damn the Machine" tackles the complicated history of Germany's Noise Records, the most influential European independent heavy metal record company of the 1980s. The creation of Karl-Ulrich Walterbach, Noise was responsible for signing and developing the likes of Hellhammer/Celtic Frost, Coroner, Gamma Ray, Grave Digger, Helloween, Kamelot, Kreator, Rage, Running Wild, Skyclad, Tankard, and many more, assembling a roster whose impact reverberates throughout the metal scene today.

For the first time, Walterbach goes into elaborate detail on his experiences in the music industry. A self-proclaimed anarchist with no musical background to speak of, Walterbach rose from the violent Berlin punk rock scene to the forefront of European metal after launching Noise in 1983. Walterbach's gut instinct for signing new talent made him one of metal's first true label impresarios, but his abrasive personality and unwillingness to conform to industry standards made him an outsider in a business he grew to despise. Barathrum Releasing New Album

Saturnal Records has set April 28th as the international release date for Barathrum's ninth album, "Fanatiko." Formed in 1990, Barathrum is one of the founding Finnish black metal outfits.

The band's early '90s demos, and especially following first two albums - "Hailstorm" and "Eerie," both released in 1995 - were foundations in establishing the filthy sound for which Finnish black metal became known worldwide, and also for featuring a unique and sinister setup of two bass guitars.

Barathrum would continue to be prolific during the rest of the 1990s and into the early 2000s, before quietly going on hiatus. And although posthumous collections kept the name fresh for a while, only three new songs would arrive on a split 10" in 2010, and thus flowed rumors about the state of Barathrum and whether the band was truly RIP.

This new album shall be released on both CD and vinyl LP formats, along with new merchandise sure to please all old worshipers of Barathrum. The "Fanatiko" track listing is as follows:

1. Hellspawn
2. Pope Corpse Tattoo
3. On The Dark River Bank
4. Sadistic Pleasure
5. Arx Satanas
6. Church Amok
