Dillinger Escape Plan Issues Post-Crash Update

After a serious bus crash in Poland over the weekend, The Dillinger Escape Plan has now issued this update about the situation:

"By now I'm sure many of you have already heard the news, but we wanted to communicate to you all directly. Not just to express the fact that nobody is in critical condition, but to express our gratitude to the fans who have seen us or who were going to see us on this tour, the crew who was also in the accident with us and part of why things have been going so smoothly, the various promoters and venue staff, Live Nation Poland who have been so helpful in the last 38 hours, the many police and medics and emergency workers who came to the scene, the hospital workers, and the friends and family who have reached out to us personally since yesterday morning.

"We were in the middle of playing some of our favorite shows we've ever played, and having a better time on and off stage than we have in a long time.

"We were ripped out of sleep at 8:25AM to what still feels like a lucid nightmare. The cacophony of metal bending and things breaking and people screaming and what felt like being hit by a missile. Without going into detail, not everyone is out of the hospital yet, some of us are hurt worse than others.

"Questions like why did this happen, why are we alive and others not, why are the people from the Bay Area fire dead, why at all is anyone here or not. What the hell is all of this. Remember how valuable life is. We are all lucky to be alive. To just have any time at all.

"Anyway, thanks to you all for caring. We were truly having an amazing time and we're blessed to have you all, such a high caliber group of people. It's been an honor to play these shows, but we unfortunately have to cancel the remainder of them. We will reschedule every one that we can, and we'll update more when we can." More...

Kittie's bass player Trish Doan has passed away at the age of 31. The band issued this brief statement about her death:

"It is with immeasurable sadness that we share news of the passing of our sister and best friend Trish Doan. Finding the right words is tough. She was so bright and vibrant and talented and we loved her and still do. She was so much more than just a musician or member of the band.

"She was our blood, our sister and family. Finding our way without her will be challenging, like a ship without a lighthouse, and we are devastated. We ask that you please respect our privacy and her family's privacy during this difficult time." More...

Blessed Curse Announces "Beware Of The Night"

Nor Cal’s Blessed Curse is back. It’s been some time since the trio released a full-length, self-titled album in 2012. But on March 31st these thrashers make a comeback with "Beware of the Night."

Ripping and tearing through five new songs of blistering, aggressive metal, "Beware of the Night" was once again produced by Juan Urteaga (Sadus, Exodus, Testament) at Trident Studios.

“Recording with Juan has been a great experience in the past and this time was no different,” states drummer Derek Bean. “I feel like this whole session was an improvement from the 2012 self-titled album from our playing to the final masters. We worked timely and efficiently on getting these songs recorded to the best of all our abilities, which definitely shows in the final release.”

The album also introduces new bass player Dan Keenan. “The delay of the band also just had to do with finding the correct person who has the same goals and desires as us and wants to improve and push us forward into our own sound and style which took some time,” adds Derek.

Now armed with a new recording, featuring striking cover artwork from Stone Design’s Brian Lewis (DevilDriver, Black Label Society, Cultural Warfare), Blessed Curse has been doing regional shows, including one this week supporting The Mentors at Café Colonial in Sacramento on February 18th. In the meantime, the guys promise there won’t be as much delay between recordings with several new songs already written for a future full album. More...

Cold Fell Streams "Bone Ceiling"

"Bone Ceiling" is the harsh new single from Manchester, UK-based black metal horde, Cold Fell. The song can be heard below and comes of the "Irwell" debut LP, which is nearing release through Argento Records.

Cold Fell vocalist Laurence Taylor issues with the new track: "'Bone Ceiling' is about a character enacting violent revenge. It's left open ended for the listener to infer their own story onto it - the lyrics imply that the prospective victim is a police officer or perhaps an employer, but it's quite a simple escapist and cathartic vehicle for each listener's frustrations. I was also keen to add some 'Oi!' into a song since first experiencing Sump live and them doing the same!" More...

The Dutch progressive metal band includes members of ReVamp and Vuur, but has chosen to play mercilessly heavy music in contrast to their previous projects. "Banners for the Blind" exists to express uncompromising disappointment and disdain for modern social trends, religion, and socioeconomic issues.

Buckshot Facelift Announces New Album

Jester Of Destiny Releasing New Album

It was 30 years ago that Jester Of Destiny's "Fun At The Funeral" debut was released on the short-lived Metal Blade subsidiary, Dimension Records. A year later, the group released all-covers record "In A Nostalgic Mood," after which the band was unceremoniously hacked from the Metal Blade stable and, unable to land another deal for third album, "No Laughing Matter," quietly disappeared, with all the main participants going on to other pursuits.

All these years later, on April 7th via Ektro Records, Jesters Of Destiny is back with "The Sorrows That Refuse To Drown," an all-new hard rock / metal record. This poses the question: Why? Bruce Duff and Ray Violet, the co-band leaders and production team behind everything the band recorded, are as perplexed as everyone else.

"Ray and I were recording new material independently at home, and we sent each other some things and said, 'These seem like songs the Jesters would do,'" says Bruce. "So we started making more, and getting more people involved, and all of a sudden - it was anything but sudden, actually - it seemed like we were making a Jesters Of Destiny album."

"We always called what we did Gleeful Gloom," notes Bruce. "With 30 years of real life since 'Funeral,' we might be leaning a bit more on the gloom side. We wanted to lighten the load at the end, hence 'Happy Ending.' Also, however deep we lean into our own trials, Ray still really likes songs about the devil. If it ain't broke..." More...

Altarage Signs With Season Of Mist

Season of Mist is proud to announce the signing of Spanish death/black metal band Altarage. The band will release an upcoming sophomore album via the label worldwide later this year.

Regarding this signing, Altarage comments: "We are glad that Season Of Mist have joined us on our journey through the nothingness, chanting hymns of failure, and celebrating decay towards our inevitable end. The year 2017 will see a new nihilistic offering. The end is upon us."

Although little is known about the Spanish band's origins, Altarage states the band was "spawned in a nihilistic cauldron of contempt, in order to reach out the nothingness of all planes of existence."

Masters of "primitive, poisonous, electrifying music from a band that’s now squarely on my radar screen for the future.” (No Clean Singing), the secretive metal band from Bilbao quickly gained notoriety in the death metal underground through a self-released demo and debut-full length just last year. Antropofagus Releasing New Album

Antropofagus returns May 12th, 2017 with uncompromising godless ferocity - five years after the "Architecture of Lust" release, this Italian death metal beast strikes again with "Methods of Resurrection Through Evisceration" (M.O.R.T.E.), a journey into life, death, resurrection and the descent into the darkest depths of self.

Guitarist Francesco and Vocalist Tya had this to say about the forthcoming Comatose Music release: "We decided to go with a warmer and fatter tone this time. The songs are more straight forward and in your face than the songs on 'Architecture of Lust', and certainly more groovy. I'd say this is the most old school and evil Antropofagus album to date.

"Dave and I worked hard to make sure this album would have a deeper sanguineous sound, and I also went from a six string to a seven string guitar for this recording. I'd say Morbid Angel and Hate Eternal have been the strongest influences while writing this album, but the Antropofagus trademark is definitely there, so expect pure brutality! Probably our most balanced and mature album so far." More...

Lucifera Releasing "Preludio Del Mar"

Colombian group Lucifera will release the "Preludio Del Mar" CD on February 24th, 2017 via Morbid Skull Records. You can check out "Letanías Infernales" below, and Morbid Skull commens:

"With a sound firmly rooted in the old school style, they whip up a storm and deliver a dozen extremely potent and acerbic tracks. Alejandra Blasfemia's vocals are veritably hateful and vile, and coupled with the fact that they're delivered in a native language exacerbates things greatly.

"Given the nature and tone of the primitive music, they go very well with it and sound like fierce incantations belonging to an ancient black art ritual. 'Preludio Del Mal' is scathing yet laden with catchy riffing and exudes a fantastic vibe throughout. Lucifera are a revelation indeed and anyone who can appreciate vicious old school black/thrash metal will find a new favourite in this one."

Felix Martin Posts "Flashback" Video

Berklee-educated modern progressive/world fusion guitarist Felix Martin will release his upcoming 15-track full-length album, "Mechanical Nations," on February 24th, 2017.

As a follow-up to last week's release of "Bom," Martin has revealed an official music video for the track "Flashback" showcasing his bandmates Kilian Duarte (bass) and Victor A. Carracedo (drums) with directing by Matt Zane.

"I wanted this song to sound like thunder, fast cars, flashes... really fast stuff, that sort of thing. The idea came to me after a really stressful day in Los Angeles," says Martin. "All of the traffic congestion and warm weather, and then the relief I felt when I got home. I wrote almost the whole song right as I returned home that day. For this video, we wanted to have the band play around bright lights and flashes, as it reflects the mood of the track."

He continues, "Musically, I wanted to have a really heavy sounding guitar without using distortion. The whole thing is played using chords with percussion, always keeping a groove going and clean tones with flashy delays. This song is very band-based, where we are all playing the same thing, as we were all part of a rhythm section." More...
