Reflection Signs With Pitch Black

Pitch Black Records is thrilled to announce its 50th album release with the signing of legendary Greek metal band Reflection.

Reflection will be celebrating a 25th anniversary next year and is returning with fourth album, "Bleed Babylon Bleed," eight years since the band’s last offering. Label founder Phivos Papadopoulos comments:

“Our 50th release just had to be special. And this is as special as it could get, for a number of reasons! I remember discovering Reflection in the early ‘90s and receiving their demo tape after writing to them and how I was blown away by their music. Even more importantly though, since the day we first made contact, a truly unique bond has been formed between myself and the band’s founder and guitarist, Stathis Pavlantis.

"A bond that has certainly stood the test of time and has grown more and more throughout the years; we are not just friends, we are family now and the emotions associated with releasing this on my own record label, twenty-something years after we first met, cannot easily be put into words. I agreed to sign Reflection without even listening to the new album (which I haven’t regretted one tiny bit of course)! Here’s another fine example of that something that makes metal so magical and special I guess!”

New album “Bleed Babylon Bleed” is out on April 7th worldwide on CD and digital formats. The track listing is as follows:

1. Marching to Glory
2. Glorious Victory
3. The Iron Tower
4. Fallen Shadow
5. Takla Makan
6. Time Traveller
7. Stormbringer
8. Ruler of My Own Land

Helsott Signs With M-Theory Audio Records

California act Helsott – whose exotic sound mixes melodic death with pagan influences – has signed with M-Theory Audio Records, who will release the group's new five-song EP, "The Healer," on April 28. The cover art by Felipe Machado Franco (Blind Guardian, Iced Earth) can be seen below.

Since forming seven years ago, Helsott – whose name means “fatal illness” in Old Norse – has paid homage to pagan cultures and mythologies while keeping true to their American influences. The group's unique mix of folk metal, death metal, symphonic metal, thrash, classical and rock first caught the attention of audiences on a large scale during the 2013 Paganfest North American tour, where they performed with Ensiferum, Tyr and Trollfest. The group built further momentum the following year with the release of their debut full-length, Woven, behind which they toured alongside Arkona and Heidevolk.

Helsott now returns with "The Healer," a five-song EP recorded in part at Southern California's Trench Studios (Intronaut, Abysmal Dawn) and mixed and mastered by J-F Dagenais (Kataklysm, Ex Deo). The release spawned from the band's successful crowd-sourcing campaign to fund the recording of "Woven," when they offered to write a song about a fan who pledged a certain amount. A patron named Doc – who was indeed a doctor – took them up on their offer, and the band liked the final result so much that they decided to write and record additional new songs to be issued in conjunction. John Frum Announces New Album

This is February 15th, John Frum Day. On this day, cult followers from all over the island of Tanna in the South Pacific nation of Vanuatu come to the village of Lamakara at Sulfa Bay to march, raise their flags, and celebrate their esoteric way of life.

This is also the day that the patron saints of altered states known as John Frum reveal to the world the first glimpse into a new chronicle of auditory disturbances. Indulge your senses with a teaser trailer below.

Consisting of current and former members of The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Faceless, John Zorn and many other renowned projects, John Frum has been fermenting a bedeviled broth since 11.11.11. Like a planchette moved by the presence of subtle energies, John Frum functions as a medium for malefic musings.

Nearly 6 years in the making, John Frum’s unorthodox debut "A Stirring in the Noos" maneuvers through 40 minutes of darkly psychedelic and meticulously crafted death metal. More...

Cursus Releasing Self-Titled Album

Texan doom-duo Cursus will crush worlds on the band's colossal self-titled debut coming April 28th, 2017 via Artificial Head Records. Check out advance track "Waters Of Wrath" below.

Taken from the Latin word meaning “course” – specifically the mournful paths our ancestors once took to bury their dead – the San Antonio-based paring of guitarist/vocalist CJ Duron and drummer Sarah Roork first came into being in the winter of 2013.

The "Summer Solstice Sessions" demo quickly caught the ear of label boss and fellow Texan, Walter Carlos, who signed Cursus on the spot to his Houston-based label Artificial Head Records.

“I had toured with Cursus a few times over the years and I’ve always admired their massive sound. Their ability to crush bodies in the room with their songs is uncanny,” explains Carlos. “Initially, we were going to release a live cassette by the band from recordings they made while on tour. But as the project kept going, we decided that a full-length studio album would be better and we’re proud to have Cursus as part of our family.” More...

Sect Inks Deal With Southern Lord

Southern Lord has signed North American hardcore outfit Sect, comprised of an international cast of scene veterans hailing from the likes of Cursed, Burning Love, Earth Crisis, Catharsis, Undying, and Day Of Suffering.

The result of these musicians' alignment is a caustic, riotous, belligerent style of vile hardcore fed by a boundless well of socio-political vitriol. With two countries and four hometowns between them, Sect was born when two project ideas between tour mates merged into the same experiment, finally taking shape in 2015 and culminating in recording sessions in Raleigh, North Carolina in early 2016.

The band unites vocalist Chris Colohan (Cursed, Burning Love, Left For Dead), guitarists James Chang (Catharsis, Undying) and Scott Crouse (Earth Crisis, The Path Of Resistance), bassist Steve Hart (Day Of Suffering), and drummer Andy Hurley (Racetraitor, Fall Out Boy, The Damned Things).

Offers Colohan of signing with Southern Lord: "My rule of thumb with labels these days is to work with one that I own at least five LPs from. Smart music business opportunities don't mean shit without a true respect for each others' tastes, aesthetic and passions. More...

Hammr Signs With Hells Headbangers Records

Today, Hells Headbangers announced the signing of Hammr. Highly impressed by the band's self-titled debut EP in 2015, not to mention hailing from the label's home base of Cleveland, the first fruit of this union shall be Hammr's debut album "Unholy Destruction," which shall be released later this year.

Hammr was formed in Cleveland, Ohio by J. Hammer in 2013. As a strictly solo endeavor, Hammr recorded a full digital-only demos album, which caught the attention of several labels. From there, the band went on to release the Hammr EP in 2015, first digitally and then on cassette tape through Hota Rex, the latter of which quickly sold out. Other plans for releases were delayed due to label managers going to jail as well as the usual financial delays, which led J. Hammer to start releasing demo singles directly to the metal people. It was during this time that he met the folks behind Hells Headbangers and also Demona founder Tanza Speed, who both took a lot of interest in Hammr. Once he received the offer, J. Hammer decided to hold off on recordings for other labels, and use some of his demos and new material for the imminent debut album, "Unholy Destruction." More...

The sound is much more extreme than previous Nighon compositions, widening the contrasts even more than before. The album is supposed to be heard in it’s entirety non-stop. The single “The Greatest of Catastrophes” is a blend of the outbreak of World War I and the Ukraine crisis. The video was filmed during the winter 2016 by Kasper Dalkarl, David Viklund and Stephanie Blomqvist. More...

Mexican Chili Funeral Party Issues New Album

Italy's Mexican Chili Funeral Party issued the brand new album "Mexican Warriors' Revenge" today (February 15th) via Sliptrick Records.

The band was formed in the summer of 2009 in Milan utilizing influences such as Kyuss, Brant Bjork, Queens of The Stone Age, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. The four have developed over the years, crafting a distinctive style by entering the stoner and hard rock realm. The band released the debut self titled album in 2014 and have since built a strong reputation on the live circuit supporting such luminary’s as with Fu Manchu, The Shrine, Unida, Zu, Spirit Caravan, Nick Oliveri and God Is an Astronaut amongst others.

Recorded in 2016 at Anam studio by Marcello Mantovani and mixed at Bordello Studio by Marco Bonanomi, the new Mexican Chili Funeral Party album, "Mexican Warriors’ Revenge" is made up of eleven high-octane, energy-infused tracks that blend stoner rock, power rock and grunge influences. The album is nothing if not original. Each song has its own story and at the same time stands as a piece of the album’s conceptual puzzle: the journey and the exploration of distant lands, both real and imaginary, are the leitmotiv of the entire project.

"Mexican Warriors’ Revenge" stands out from the band’s previous work in as much as aside from being artistically more mature, the record’s instinctual component is perfectly blended with a more rational one in terms of selecting the best sounds and arrangements to realize their vision.

The track listing is as follows:

1. 01
2. Vespucci
3. Power Of Love
4. La Ballata Del Korkovihor, Pt. II
5. Ranger
6. Waiting For The Sun
7. 1605
8. Lu Curt
9. Tomahawk
10. 11
11. Seul B More...

Wintersun Reveals "The Forest Seasons" Track List

Finnish act Wintersun issued the track listing for the upcoming new release "The Forest Seasons." An Indigogo campaign for the album commences on March 1st (stay tuned for link). Today, vocalist/guitarist Jari Mäenpää revealed track-by-track information about each song on the release.

In a statement on Facebook, Mäenpää stated: "This album is more primitive and organic than I normally like to do, but still modern, melodic, epic, bombastic yet also dark and dare I say even shocking and we love it! It is new and different, 'cause I don´t like doing the same thing over and over, but it's still very much a Wintersun album - although Wintersun can be anything, even techno/trance/pop... There are no limits with the music of Wintersun!

"It is a longer album than 'TIME I' running over 53 minutes and for once I'm 100% happy with the sounds and the production. The sound fits PERFECTLY for this album! This album actually sounds great in every sound system/speakers/headphones I've listened to it! If you are a Wintersun fan you won't be disappointed! It has everything you would expect from a Wintersun album, that we can promise you! And if you're not a fan, you might like it anyway, because it has lot of variety and new dimensions to our sound and style.

"'The Forest Seasons' album was something that I could do with my current resources, but it doesn't take anything away how great the album is. Because it is killer! And music isn't measured in money. Album costing hundred bucks or a million bucks can be equally good albums. (But the unfortunate thing is that certain albums can only be done with higher end production and then again some albums would sound like shit with a big budget production and vice versa, some albums would sound like shit with low budget production and some albums would sound killer with low budget production!)

"The album has four epic and monumental songs, all very different, but still merging together perfectly like the season changes. Two of the songs, 'Awaken From The Dark Slumber (Spring)' and 'Eternal Darkness (Autumn)' are multipart songs like 'Starchild' and 'Sons of Winter and Stars'.

"'Awaken From The Dark Slumber (Spring)' is the starting track. It's a very energetic song illustrating the awakening of nature and it will build up to a big climax! (This song has this album's "killer riff"... forest style!) More...

Woe Streaming "The Ones We Lost"

U.S. black metal unit Woe will release new "Hope Attrition" full-length album next month via new label home Vendetta Records. In advance of its release and in conjunction with Valentine's Day, today "The Ones We Lost" is offered up for public feasting.

"If the name doesn't give it away, 'The Ones We Lost' is about coming to terms with a loved one's death," elaborates founding guitarist/vocalist Chris Grigg. "For me, it is the most draining song of Woe's entire catalog. I, the other members of the band, and seemingly everyone I know had to deal with sudden deaths of family and friends over the past few years. Even if you recover, it leaves you changed."

He goes on to say, "The cognitive dissonance between your body's sense of something fundamentally broken in the world and the world's indifference never really goes away. I think of this song as the emotional centerpiece of the album, a statement about grappling with the individual's powerlessness in the face of the ultimate, final uncaring force." More...
