Turmoil Singer Jon Gula Parts with Band

Turmoil and frontman Jon Gula have parted ways. Gula was a founding member of the group, which originally formed in 1992. Last February Turmoil signed with Eulogy Recordings and has slowly been working on a new full-length. With the new album nearing completion, the commitments that go along with it have forced Gula to reevaluate his situation, and he has ultimately chosen to step aside.

Gula said the decision has been extremely difficult for him, lamenting, "Turmoil has been a big part of life for many years, essentially half of my life." A recent career change further weighed on Gula's mind. "I really wish I could, but I just can't devote 100% of myself to Turmoil anymore. I've got too many things to attend to right now, and I didn't think it would be fair to our fans, or to the rest of the band, to delay the inevitable."

Gula isn't sure how the group will proceed in his absence, adding. "I'll understand if they carry on with someone else. I'm not sure if I would call it 'Turmoil,' going forward, but I support whatever decision they make. Obviously, they've got to do what's right for them."

iTunes To Shut Down?

With royalty fees set to receive a substantial 66% increase tomorrow (9 cents > 15 cents), iTunes slash Apple are now threatening to shut down the iTunes Store due to profits potentially turning into substantial losses…

In April 2007 the company’s vice president for iTunes, Eddy Cue, submitted testimony to the Board at the Library of Congress surrounding all these royalty hikes.

“If iTS (iTunes Store) were forced to absorb any increase in the mechanical royalty rates, the result would be to significantly increase the likelihood of the store operating at a financial loss - which is no alternative at all. More...

Gama Bomb Comments On European Tour

For the past few weeks, Irish thrashers Gama Bomb have been making their way across Europe on the Thrashing Like A Maniac tour with LA shredders Bonded By Blood and UK support act Sworn Amongst, spreading the good word of thrash wherever they go.

The band comments on the tour so far: "So here we are, two weeks into our five-week European tour. We've already come so far and done so much we can't do it justice in a simple, mortal blog, but here goes: we started in Berlin, where we accidentally played to a neo-Nazi biker gang, then we wound through Europe, finding ourselves in the Italian wilderness, high in the Alps and sweltering at the far end of Portugal along the way. It's been very, very hot so far, but we're now encountering a cooler, Northern European leg of the tour."

Along with a night of thrash metal music, Gama Bomb is offering something else to the fans who attend the shows: redemption. Gama Bomb recently announced their Stamp Out Inferior Metal campaign. At each show of the 10,000-mile, eleven-country Thrashing Like A Maniac European tour, Gama Bomb invites and encourages you to bring along the worst of your music collections - the embarrassing, the awkward and the downright rubbish CDs, records and merchandise hidden amongst your better purchases - and to collect them together so both you and Gama Bomb can do what should have been done long ago - ritually shred, stamp and smash the living hell out of them! Bring them to a show, whereupon they will be ceremoniously smashed, stamped on, frisbee'd and generally destroyed as part of the set, live onstage. More...
