A brand-new Slayer album is expected in 2009, but some fans won't have to wait that long to get an early listen to some of the new music. Fans who attend any of the upcoming European "Unholy Alliance Tour, Chapter III" dates (listed below), will receive the new Slayer song via an exclusive download card that will also include special material from the entire tour's line-up - Slayer, Mastodon, Trivium and Amon Amarth. The download card, along with a limited edition "Unholy Alliance Tour" clothing patch, will be given away free only to ticket holders when they arrive at their local venue the night of the show.
The new Slayer song is being recorded as you read this, as Slayer has just entered a Los Angeles-area studio to begin recording the new album. More info on the free song and new album will be announced shortly. In addition, Trivium's "Kirisute Gomen" from their new album, "Shogun" (released September 30), and "Guardians of Asgaard," a new song from Amon Amarth's "Twilight of the Thunder God" (released September 30), will also be part of the download package. Mastodon opted to do something a little different for their contribution to the tour download - the band will take fans into the recording studio for a first-look and listen to the making of their upcoming album. Plus, a live-in-concert Slayer performance filmed at the band's 2007 San Diego Sports Arena show will be included in the "Unholy Alliance Tour" download package.

Yeah I gave money to a charity Hunger for Hope, and got a code card to listen to a new Mariah Carey song..granted I don't like her musik, but it is nice that artists are giving away a free track to their fans.
It looks like this may the way of the future for rock and metal. Great idea, I agree.
Don't get me wrong, Slayer is the reason I am still alive today, and I will never think of them any other way, this whole downloading thing is kind of getting on my nerves... I mean I do download, but only to see if an album is worth buying, because I've had some bad experiences, but people don't seem to understand the sentimental value that comes with owning a CD. There are people who refuse to buy CDs and I can't imagine why, but in a matter of time there will be no more CDs and record stores will jack the sh** out of their prices, much like they do with vinyl these days. And some albums need the jewel case for you to really gain the full experience, much like every tool album. But i think it's cool that they are doing that to their fans, it's a testament to who they are, but if every band starts doing this, there will be no reason for anyone to buy the real albums.
If you have a problem, you have a problem.
I like to download my albums because I am lazy...lol. I download legally, though, and pay for the album online. I guess I am impatient and can't wait to get it. I don't live too far from the cd store, but I just like to have the album when I am ready to listen to it. Yeah, Slayer is doing a good thing. You also bring up good points - tunnelofpain.
I like to own physical copies of my albums as well. I have gone out and bought a few CDs that I had digital review copies of. But giving fans a free download of something is a great idea because it costs the band virtually nothing and is a way to be generous to the fans, give them something to take home from the show, and spread the word of the bands on the show - including the openers, which may have been skipped or overlooked by the concertgoers.
This sounds like a good idea but the tour details for Glasgow are wrong - they're playin the SECC, i was f***in confused wen i read the Academy - anyway, must get a standing ticket soon and freebies are always fun.

That's a really cool thing that Slayer's doing. On top of that, I can't wait for any new Slayer material. I've got everything they've put out as far as CDs go, and I love most of it ("Diabolus in Musica" was a bit of a disappointment, though). I hope these guys put out more great music before they decide to call it quits.
i got the new amon amarth ( not their best work but better than the last 2 albums) i would cop that if you get a chance, haven't heard the new trivium the crusade was good until the haunted released the dead eye but it's better than their old stuf i ahve not heard anything from shogun, i don't listen to previws and things i judge by albums alone pruely you can make a good song that isn't hard work but making a good album is, But out of all this news i am more interested in the new Mastodon/
This whole notion of "free song" seems too modern for an established, and now historic, band like Slayer. What do I do with this? Yell, "Woohoo for Slayer"? If a band like Slayer has a disc worth selling, it can be sold without any of this modern hype. Music isn't new. People will listen to good music long after the artist has died. Write and play music, let the money and distribution fend for itself.

I really like the idea of this. Value added is always a great idea. Rather than giving away free tickets with CD purchases (giving the label more money and the band less), they should be doing stuff like this to get fans out to see them and make bigger fans of them by giving them freebies and extras to take home after the show. Sounds so obvious now.
