Tomorrow's Rain Uploads New Lyric Video

Tel Aviv’s dark metal band, Tomorrow's Rain, has released their final single, "Into The Mouth Of Madness" featuring Jeff Loomis (ex-Nevermore, Arch Enemy) and Kobi Farhi (Orphaned Land), from their debut album, Hollow, out September 11 via AOP Records. In addition to collaborators Loomis and Farhi, the album boasts and incredible lineup of guests including members from Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride, Rotting Christ, Moonspell, Septicflesh, Draconian and more.

Vocalist Yishai Sweartz comments on the new single: “It's a personal song for a friend I lost and his name is Warrel Dane. Having Jeff Loomis playing in the song for Warrel is at least for me like a 7 min spiritual reunion of Nevermore, we lost here a top class artist, and more important: a golden heart person.

"As a listener I first knew Sanctuary when Into The Mirror Black came out, than Nevermore's debut was released in 95 and I was totally into it, years passed by and I booked them to play here, that's how I knew Warrel, after the band split up I booked Warrel to play the Dead Heart songs in Tel Aviv with a local band, that's when we really got closer, he spent few days here, we went to the studio doing some Black Sabbath stuff, we went to eat and drink a lot, went to see places in the Ancient part of the city etc etc, he was sober back than and he was sober when Nevermore played here few years earlier, we talked about the Tomorrow's Rain album, back than still in writing process, we talked about his ideas to record a covers album of gothic rock songs and I offered him few ideas, we discussed him coming to Israel again for like 2 weeks to produce the album, about 2 years later I booked Sanctuary to play here, mainly to support him, when he came I realized in minutes that he is not "with us" anymore, he was not in a good shape, it was sad to see, I realized that he will not be able to produce the album, but more important: I was worried about him, I was so scared that something bad is about to happen, I felt it. DGM Shares New Lyric Video

Italian progressive metal masters, DGM, will release their long-awaited 10th studio album, "Tragic Separation," on October 9 via Frontiers Music Srl. It follows the band’s release "The Passage" from 2016. Today, the band has released a lyric video for the song "Hope". You can check it out below.

DGM started writing new music in the spring of 2019, with the overall process taking almost one year. This was a longer writing process than normal for them since it was the band’s desire to push themselves beyond any boundaries set by their previous work. Truly no small feat given the band’s catalog. The end result is "Tragic Separation," an album where the band ticks all the boxes of the progressive metal genre, but adds more and more of their own personal identity and approach.

Long-time fans need not worry as you can still find all the trademark elements of DGM’s sound with sweeping choruses, technical passages, lightning fast fretwork, big vocals, and bombastic transitions. But the care and dedication to the songwriting emerges in phenomenal songs which carefully encompass everything that goes from traditional progressive metal to a more classic hard rock sound (even giving a nod to Kansas' sound in the title track). The playing is faultless as usual and the melodies are perfectly woven into killer guitars, epic keyboards, and pounding drums.

Not only are the songs presented here simply great music, but lyrically, "Tragic Separation" is a concept album told through the eyes of a protagonist about life and the paths we can go down between the choices we make, plus the subsequent consequences those choices bring to our lives. Among the doubts and second thoughts about the choices made, there is one that echoes in the protagonist’s soul: what if the answer for everything was the path itself? An unanswered question, which is another starting point for a new quest... another beginning.

Watch out for DGM, they are not only Italy’s finest progressive metal band, but an absolute astounding force to be reckoned with. The band will tour on the album as soon as conditions allow. More...

Solstafir Posts New Music Video Online

Solstafir are premiering the brand new song "Drýsill", in the form of an dark, animated video by Kim Holm // Den Unge Herr Holm (who also created the artwork for "Svartir Sandar"). Watch the video via the Season of Mist Youtube channel below. The animations and FX were done by David Hall.
Drummer Hallgrímur Jón Hallgrimsson comments: "Drýsill, in Icelandic, means demon.

"This is the story of a woman who fell for someone who promised her the world with his smile. She fell captive to his mind games. His intentions were riddled with evil as he fed off of her love. Her humanity disappears as he gains power by mentally and physically torturing her, keeping her locked away in a prison of her own mind. The video illustrates her personal journey through hell as she spirals further into the darkness of captivity until what feels like the end. But one day she is able to gather her strength and use the rest of her power towards the dark to fight her way back into the light. As she kills him with the very shovel he was going to use to bury her with, he is still smiling at her. Laughing at her. Mocking her. This song is about fighting the demons that you allow to control your mind, and breaking free. It’s about rescuing yourself and finding the strength and the courage to be victorious, no matter how hurt you’ve been. More...

Unearthing the Metal Underground: Dining with Dogs

Dining With Dogs is an atypical name for a heavy band. More importantly, Dining with Dogs is an atypical kind of heavy band, in the best possible way. The band differs immensely from The Dead See, the ensemble’s precursor outfit that was a gargantuan and lethal hybrid of Neurosis and Crowbar, as well as from frontman Mark Key’s current experimental mind-fuck that is BLK OPS. In a nutshell, Dining With Dogs is a metallic version of the legendary noise rock band Jesus Lizard that unravels in defiance of strict genre classification, touching upon the foundation of sludge metal and hard rock along the way. While 2020 has been deemed by many as a “write-off” due to the current pandemic, Dining With Dogs’ debut “The Problem With Friends” is cause for celebration for fans of inventive heavy music.

Accomplished music video director Marcos Morales’ murky and punchy bassline opens the spacious soundscape of “Oddly Shaped Skull” right off the bat, underlying Josh Paul’s steady beat and Mark Key’s soulful, subdued crooning that has more in line with a narrative quality than standard guitar-driven music vocals. Key’s guitars subsequently come crashing with a forceful hard rock surge that’s delivered with a sense of purpose. “Sweet Talkin’ Psycho” follows up with a groovy swagger that’s almost danceable. The simplicity and rhythmic stabbing here and throughout “The Problem With Friends” are the reasons why the release is so memorable. The riffs and the punctuations simply have meaning. Later, “Puzzled” rolls forth with hearty portions of melodic post-rock majesty that are reprieves for the burly scream-along fracas.

The individual pieces of the puzzle of “The Problem With Friends” aren’t entirely unique. But they’re assembled in a manner that’s refreshing and distinct. This is an exciting starting point for the new Austin-based band that is comprised of seasoned musicians. And Dining With Dogs is a band worth keeping an eye on for heavy music aficionados who are yearning for something new and fresh.

Ex Immolation & Goreaphobia Members Form New Band

Shadows is a new dark avant-garde metal band from Immolation and ex-Goreaphobia guitarist Alex Bouks, who brought other former Goreaphobia members to the table, including Henny Piotrowski (guitars) and Jake G (vocals). Alongside multi-instrumentalist Lance Walter, the US-based quartet has signed a record deal with Agonia Records, with plans to release their debut material in 2021.

As founding member of the Philadelphia death metal band Goreaphobia, Alex Bouks has been involved in the extreme underground music scene since the late 80’s. His technical style of aggressive, melodic guitar work has resulted in worldwide recognition being a member of such acclaimed acts as Immolation, Incantation, Master, Ruinous and Funebrarum.

Now Alex has returned to his musical roots in Shadows, with classic influences (feat. Pink Floyd, Celtic Frost, Sisters Of Mercy, Black Sabbath, Mercyful Fate and Voivod) and musicians he always felt chemistry with, including Henry Piotrkowski and Jake G of the split-up Philadelphia-based band Goreaphobia, and Lance Walter of another Philadelphia unit, Dominance. Their debut EP was produced at Rhawn Street Studios in the US and mastered by Tore Stjerna (Mayhem, Watain) at Necromorbus Studio in Sweden. It's expected to be released in 2021.

A statement from Alex Bouks explains more: "Shadows is a personal project that has lasted with myself and Henny Piotrowski for over thirty years. He is one of the first people I started playing music with and there has always been a magical chemistry that had never gone away. This year the universe spoke and said the truth shall be unveiled."

Lineup:

Alex Bouks - Lead guitar
Henny Piotrowski - guitar
Jake G - vocals
Lance Walter - drums, bass, lead guitar

Winterfylleth To Re-Issue "The Mercian Sphere"

British Black Metal legends Winterfylleth are set to re-issue a tenth anniversary version of their seminal album "The Mercian Sphere." To celebrate the passing of ten years since this landmark release Candlelight Records are releasing an anniversary version of the album in October 2020 on limited edition vinyl.

The anniversary re-issue features: -
- Updated cover artwork (from noted Lake District photographer, Sean Howell)
- Extended liner notes & oversized booklet with reflections on the album by all the members of the band, ten years on
- OBI strip featuring the original hand drawn 'Guardians' from the first edition CD artwork
- 2 x LPs on Limited Edition Black/White/Swirl Vinyl

"When I think about the ever moving train ride of being in a band, it can sometimes be difficult to stop, put your foot on the brake and look backwards at where you have been on the journey to get you to the now," comments guitarist/vocalist Chris Naughton. "Often you become so focused on what is happening now, and where you are headed creatively, that you don’t pause and think to celebrate your victories along the way. For me, it’s nice to now do that with The Mercian Sphere Ten Year Anniversary Edition, which is, in lots of ways, the album that signified our arrival as a band on the bigger stage; and one that I look back on with the fondest of memories and a great deal of pride.

"Many of our fans still consider this to be their favourite of our albums, and with songs like The Wayfarer (Trilogy), The Fields of Reckoning, A Valley Thick With Oaks and Defending The Realm all becoming mainstays in our live set, this one really became the standard that all of our future albums would have to live up to. We wanted to honour that passing of ten years and have put together a really great package here with new cover art, a deluxe new vinyl and some interesting reflections on the album from all the band members who made it. We hope you enjoy it and can share in this ten year anniversary with us." More...

Nachtblut Posts New Music Video Online

Today, German dark metal torchbearers Nachtblut unveil the second single "Leierkinder" (engl. Children Of The Lyre) along with an official video, off their upcoming full-length, "Vanitas," to be released on October 2 via Napalm Records.

Starting off with an intoxicating, folk-influenced melody and an addictive rhythm, the new single carries its listener to days of yore, while the dark lyrics create a cynical contrast that shapes the overall ambience. Lyrically, the song refers to a fictional village reigned by a god who dictates the citizen’s state of knowledge. Paired with the fleet-footed, folky main melody and Askeroth’s gloomy, invading vocals, the new single "Leierkinder" sends frightening shivers straight to everyone’s core!

Nachtblut on their new single:
"We are more than proud to present our new song "Leierkinder": the catchy melody and chorus features a driving force, that will cause a lot of energy in front and on stage. But there is more than just a happy melody, as the lyrics come with a deeper meaning. It’s about how you define happiness referred to your personal surroundings and experience. Another issue concerns our understanding of satisfaction and our perception of things, which is also controlled by significant outside influences. Maybe you will take a pause and think about this... or not, but “jeder muss nach dem Liede tanzen, das gerade auf der Walze steht” (engl.: “everyone needs to dance to the tune on the roller”)" More...
