The U.S. District court Judge in Los Angeles turned down AXL ROSE and ex-GUNS N ROSES SLASH and DUFF MCKAGEN members to prevent Geffen Records from releasing a Guns 'n' Roses Greatest Hits record. The record, which contains 14 of the band's most well known songs, including "Welcome to the Jungle", "Sweet Child O'MIne" and "November Rain", will come out March 23rd as planned.
In a press statement, the band's management said, "Not only will audiences be misled into believing that the planned compilation is an authorized release, but [the Greatest Hits album] will hinder the release of the band's long-awaited new studio album, Chinese Democracy."
The press statement added that "there has been a massive outcry among the band's loyal audience against the Greatest Hits record" and that the fans "believe the track selection is fundamentally flawed, does not reflect the band's best work and is clearly not the ultimate package that would be selected by the band or their fanbase if they were given the opportunity."
Geffen Records has yet to issue a statement.
Germany's EVIDENCE ONE have inked a worldwide deal with Nuclear Blast Records (excluding Japan, where the band's albums will be available through Marquee Records). The group's second album, "Tattooed Heart", will be recorded later this year for a November 2004 release.
According to a posting on the band's web site, the man responsible for signing EVIDENCE ONE to Nuclear Blast is none other than PRIMAL FEAR/SINNER bassist Mat Sinner. Says Mat, "We're proud to announce the signing of EVIDENCE ONE, which are without any doubt an international highlight in the melodic metal genre."
EVIDENCE ONE's debut CD, "Criticize The Truth", was released in October 2002 through AOR Heaven/Point Music. Sound clips from the album can be downloaded at this location.
AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE have reportedly left American Records and are planning to release their album later this year on a new label.
UPHILL BATTLE have two new MP3s available for download on their official site. The songs are taken from their new album "Wreck of Nerves." Click the links to check 'em out-
Three tracks from the forthcoming IN FLAMES album, "Soundtrack to Your Escape", have been posted online in streaming format at the German Metal Hammer web site. Listen to the songs "The Quiet Place", "Touch Of Red" and "Borders And Shading" at this location. Three more cuts from the CD will be uploaded to the site on Monday, March 22.
"Soundtrack To Your Escape" is scheduled for release in North America on April 6 through Nuclear Blast Records. The CD will arrive in Europe one week earlier (March 29).
As previously reported, IN FLAMES will be teaming up with KILLSWITCH ENGAGE for a co-headlining North American tour beginning on May 3 in the Midwest. The month-long run will tentatively wrap up on June 4 on the East Coast. Also appearing on the bill will be AS I LAY DYING.
Guitarist Buckethead has officially left GUNS N' ROSES. According to MTV.com, Buckethead became fed up with GUNS' inability to complete an album or tour and stopped working the group late last year, his manager said.
Although Buckethead appeared on the green carpet at the Grammy Awards last month and was introduced by PARLIAMENT/FUNKADELIC bassist Bootsy Collins as a member of GUNS N' ROSES, he had already told GUNS frontman Axl Rose he no longer wanted to be in the band, the manager told MTV.com.
The guitarist will now focus on numerous projects, including two solo albums — "Population Overdrive" and "Cuckoo Clocks of Hell" — which are due this summer.
GUNS N' ROSES are scheduled to headline the Rock in Rio festival in Lisbon, Portugal, on May 30. It is unclear whether the band will have a new guitarist by then. GUNS N' ROSES' label would not comment on Buckethead's departure, according to MTV.com.
Former Deep Purple and current Whitesnake frontman David Coverdale has commented on the upcoming the 30th Anniversary, remastered edition of Deep Purple's classic 'Burn' album, due on April 14th through EMI Records.
"I just received the test pressing of the 'Burn' remaster from EMI to review," Coverdale said. "I'm not sure about the 'remixes' they have done with an engineer they chose, but the band sounds KICK-ARSE!!! I was surprised to see they are releasing the album so soon as EMI only asked me last week to write the liner notes for the reissue CD booklet. Oh, well... We shall see... I was quite having fun remembering those days. I never really 'think' that far back, and I am always shocked at how much I actually recall once I start thinking about it. There is no doubt in my mind how powerful we were as a band. Just wait 'til you hear it remastered. My assistant and I felt the level was a little 'soft', so we are suggesting they CRANK IT UP!!! After all, this is PURPLE we're talking about!!! I haven't heard most of the songs for many, many years, so they sound fresh and vital to me. Splendid stuff!!! What an extraordinary time in my life."

On Thursday, March 11, at L.A.'s Key Club, SOCIETY 1's Matt Zane became the first rock singer in history to perform live while "suspended" — pierced through the back and hoisted up in the air, supported only by the hooks in his flesh. An uncommonly disciplined and daring feat that has never been accomplished before now, Zane's suspension is the latest chapter in the unfolding saga of the man recently described in the LA Weekly as an embodiment of "Morrisonesque shamanics and Satanic self-determination."
Key Club was filled beyond capacity with over 700 people in attendance to witness the historic spectacle. The entire venue was abuzz with anticipation, wonder, and doubt as Zane took center stage (bearing a giant wooden cross!) and prepared for the show. With ambient melodies pumping through the PA, Zane was pierced with six hooks and hoisted off the ground. Amidst wild cheering, a curtain rose and SOCIETY 1 launched into "Fornicate", off their Earache debut, "Exit Through Fear", as Zane rose higher and higher in the air. Zane remained suspended for the duration of three full songs, reaching nearly thirty feet off the stage, fronting the band in his inimitable style all the while. On the last of the three songs, "Everyone Dies (Rock Stars Don't Count)", Zane was joined by ORGY's Jay Gordon on vocals.
Following the three suspended songs, Zane returned to the stage for a full set with SOCIETY 1, featuring the debut of new SOCIETY 1 bassist, Dirt.
SOCIETY 1's March 11 show at LA's Key Club marked their final show in support of their Earache debut, "Exit Through Fear". The entire show was filmed for a DVD, to be released on Earache later this year.
SOCIETY 1 will now enter the studio to record their second Earache album.
SOULFLY leader Max Cavalera will be signing copies of the band’s new record, Prophecy, at Zia Records Exchange (2510 West Thunderbird, Phoenix, AZ) at midnight on March 30th.
As previously reported, the limited edition two-CD set with special packaging will feature material recorded live at the Hultsfred Festival in Sweden on June 15th, 2001.

AMORPHIS have posted the following update on their official website:
"The band entered CCPC studio in Helsinki to do demos for new songs. 'The new material kicks ass', says Esa (Holopainen, guitarist). The band hopes to enter the studio this year to record the next album."
When asked what direction the new material is taking? Esa replied, "It will be a LOT different and MUCH better! Hard to say yet but the songs are going in a good direction."
Amorphis' last album, "Far From The Sun", was released in Europe in 2003 by Virgin. However it has still not been released in North America. That is about to change according to Esa. "It´s finally coming this spring via Nuclear Blast."
LAMB OF GOD have posted the video for the track ‘As The Palaces Burn’ in Windows Media and Real Player at their official website, courtesy of Prosthetic Records.
