AUDIOSLAVE guitarist Tom Morello has told MTV.com that the band have completed between 20 and 25 songs for the follow-up to their acclaimed 2002 self-titled debut (which has sold over 2 million copies).
"The songs are heading in some places where none of the four of us have ever gone in our careers before," Morello said. "When we listen back to the daily tapes, we're surprised at the music that's jumping off of them. It's so inspiring to go down to rehearsal every day.
"There are so many songs now that depending on the choices we make, they could be totally different records," he added. "We could make it 'Back in Black', or we could make it 'The Joshua Tree'. But it's really exciting, and I'm looking forward to recording it and letting people in on it."
With regards to when the as-yet-untitled CD might come out, Morello said, "It will come out when it's right and when it's great and when we're through with it. We don't like to put an artificial time on it."

The release date of VELVET REVOLVER's much-anticipated debut album, "Contraband", has been postponed to June 8 from the previously announced May 18, according to the web site of the group's record label, RCA Records. No reason was given for the delay. The album's first single, "Slither", will be delivered to radio for airplay consideration in April, according to the radio industry trade publication FMQB (Friday Morning Quarterback).
VELVET REVOLVER will film a video for "Slither" in early April. Director Kevin Kerslake is shooting interior and exterior scenes in Los Angeles and Europe (including catacombs footage in France), while the band will film their performance in early April after bassist Duff McKagan and guitarist Slash return from an overseas promotion tour for the upcoming CD.
"Contraband" will include twelve of the more than fifty tracks the band co-wrote before and after vocalist Scott Weiland (ex-STONE TEMPLE PILOTS) joined the lineup last spring. The CD was produced by Josh Abraham (LIMP BIZKIT, STAIND) and mixed by Andy Wallace (NIRVANA, WHITE ZOMBIE, LINKIN PARK, SLAYER, SEPULTURA). Mastering took place on December 19 in New York City.
Bassist Janne "Goat" Tillman is no longer a member of ISENGARD. After 12 years in the Swedish Power metal band, Goat left for family reason. "Goat was one of the founders of Isengard and will be missed as a great musician and a great band member. After all these years of playing together with Goat it's a great loss for me as the guitar player to find someone else that almost played what I wanted before I even told him, and as a highly skilled composer I sure will miss him but there is a time when you have to let the personal life take the first place in life. Good luck to your future plans and you know that you always will be a part of Isengar", says Ronnie Andréson. Isengard is currently trying out replacements for Goat.
