VUAL, a new band featuring current and former members from ACID BATH, GOATWHORE, CROWBAR, SHRUM, SUFFER and CRAWFISH FOSSIL, have put up 3 demo tracks that were recorded on February at 1 Mic Studios up online. The band will be making their debut release later this year on Bloated Goat Records. The lineup for the band is as follows:
Sammy Duet - guitar
Kelly Pitre - bass
Lynn Mapp - drums
Vocalist soon to be named
Steve Richards, the founder of No Name Music and former manager of SLIPKNOT and MUDVAYNE, passed away on Sunday, after a long battle with brain cancer. Services for Richards will be held on Friday, March 26 at 12:00 noon at Kol Tikvah, 20400 Ventura Blvd., Woodland Hills, 91364.
QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE mainman Josh Homme has told MTV.com that he will return to the studio in April with the remaining QUEENS members — guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen and drummer Joey Castillo — to work on the band's next album.
"I gotta be honest," he said. "I knew this [split with bassist Nick Oliveri] was coming, so I wrote everything by myself. And it's the best shit I've ever written. My tank has been fueled by people saying I couldn't do it, and I'm gonna show them they're dead wrong."
"It reminds me of the same, trancey emptiness of the first QUEENS record," Homme said of the new material. "It's no accident everything has come full circle. There's lots of repetition with falsetto melodies over the top. I want people to shake their ass and shut their eyes and just trance out. I want to move people and get the hairs on their arms to stand up."
Homme told MTV.com that he will play all the bass parts on the album, as he did on the group's self-titled debut. "I don't want to rush into anything with another bassist, so I'll deal with that when the time is right," he said.
With regards to a possible replacement for Nick, Josh said that there have been a number of applicants already. "Oh man, I'm fielding all these crazy phone calls from people I've never met," he said. They're like, 'Hi, I've got long hair and the look, and I can tear it up.' These guys say things like, 'I got your number through Joe Sh-- the Ragman and Gravel Gerty.' Man, I just don't care right now. QUEENS has had lots of members, and I don't mean to suggest that Nick was just a casual member, but because the music has always been made with love we've always sorted ourselves out. And I don't expect that part of it to be any different. We'll find someone who loves music."

METALLICA's official web site has uploaded a "sneak peek" at the cover for the group's first-ever official book, "So What! The Good, The Mad And The Ugly". Check it out at this location.
Due in August via Broadway Books, "So What! The Good, The Mad And The Ugly" will be issued as an over-sized hardcover and will include more than 1,000 photographs, band members' handwritten entries, drawings, and reflections, and roundtable discussions with the group at its most revealing. Current band members James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo will add new material, including an introduction and hand-written notes and comments throughout. The book will be edited by Steffan Chirazi, full-time chronicler of the band and editor of "So What!" magazine, a quarterly that is mailed to 20,000 members of the METALLICA fan club.
Steve Richards, the founder of No Name Worldwide (web site) and former manager of such acts as SLIPKNOT and MUDVAYNE, passed away last Sunday, March 21, after a long battle with brain cancer. Services for Richards will be held on Friday, March 26 at 12:00 noon at Kol Tikvah, 20400 Ventura Blvd., Woodland Hills, 91364 (818-348-0670).
LIMP BIZKIT frontman Fred Durst has posted the following message on the band's official web site:
"Last night we had a serious bomb threat at the venue in Katowice, Poland. Five minutes before we had to go on stage, the chief of policia came into our dressing room with the promoter and told us someone called the police and said to evacuate the building in one hour. The promoter wasn't really concerned at all for anything but his money but the policia said that he could not say if it there was a chance it was or was not going to happen. At that point I made the decision to evacuate the building and announce the problem to the audience.
"The policia and the promoter were very concerned there would be a riot. They actually said it was 100% that the fans would start one. I am glad to say that they were 100% wrong. The fans in Poland were very cool under these circumstances and were very respectful to authorities. We did not know what to think about the whole situation, but we are glad that everyone is safe.
"I am very sorry that happened to all of you in Poland. We will be back. We also have all the video footage of the promoter and chief of policia informing us of the bomb threat. We are working on cutting it together for you asap.
"Man, what the fuck is going on with our planet? Our societies? Our minds? It is a beautiful thing to be alive. If you get a chance try to reflect on the good things we have today. At least we have the life to reflect. Think about it.
"On the road again..."
ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian has posted the following message on the band's official web site (as part of his regular online column, dubbed "Alpha Mail"):
"Comrades, I've been returning emails at a feverish pace the last few days and so many of them are from Perth and New Zealand. We're coming all the way to Australia and we're not coming to Perth and we're not gonna drop down and pay a visit to Middle Earth? Why?
"Ask your local promoters. We wanted to go to Perth and New Zealand. To come all the way down to Australia and not play Perth and New Zealand is stupid. We couldn't get one offer that would at least enable us to break even. We would've gone to Auckland and maybe even Wellington if we could have at least broken even. We couldn't even pay for flights from Australia with what we were being offered. The promoters don't seem to think we would’ve sold enough tickets to warrant paying us enough to get there. That sucks. Everyone loses. Even the promoters because our Australia shows are doing great. I'm sure a show in Perth would’ve sold out as well and NZ would’ve followed suit. It blows man, I know. All I can say is let the powers that be in your area know that you want ANTHRAX to come play. Maybe next time we’ll be able to. If you can, come see us in Sydney or Melbourne or Brisbane or Adelaide. The shows are going to be great.
"Next major topic of your emails is bass auditions. Thank you for all the offers. Thank you for all the kind words of encouragement and the goodwill. Seriously, from my heart it means so much to get so many letters from you, the people that matter, the people that buy the tickets and CDs and DVDs etc. etc, thank you. For now, we've got no plans to hold auditions. If we do, you'll be the first to know.More...
CloneMetal.dk is reporting that Danish death metal veterans ILLDISPOSED have signed a four-album deal with Roadrunner Records. The band will enter the studio in April/May with producer Ziggy to record their new CD, tentatively due this fall. Working songtitles set to appear on the album include "Incisive Souls", "Jeff", "Call In The Boys", "Dark", "The Demons Dance" and "Pingo".
ILLDISPOSED were previously signed to the Danish label Diehard Music.
Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich recently told Launch Radio Networks that the band plan on examining their options with regards to record distribution once they have fulfilled their present contract with Elektra Records (Metallica have one album left on their current record contract).
"You know, our record contract is up soon (laughs) and we'll figure out what we're gonna do after that," he said. "You know, the great thing about being in a band like us is that we're in a position to bypass the record company. Basically record companies act like banks. And when you don't need the bank element of a record company, then you can kind of do it yourself. So we'll sort of see where it goes."
Metallica have been signed to Elektra Records since 1984. The band are currently on the first leg of their 2004 North American headlining tour, which will take them well into October.
JUDAS PRIEST Management Co-ordinator Jayne Andrews has posted the following message on the band's official web site:
"Hi - Jayne here again! I haven't had a chance to post any messages on the board recently as I've been up to my eyes what with sorting out the new record deal, arranging the world tour, working on the boxset, sorting out studios, stage sets, stage clothes etc., etc., etc!! I had a flying visit (literally!) to LA with Rob, Glenn and K.K. to participate in the Ozzfest press conference with Ozzy and Sharon - that was great fun! Things are pretty hectic this end to say the least!!
"The band are working with the producer Roy Z [HALFORD, HELLOWEEN, BRUCE DICKINSON] on the new record and things are going really really well! Scott flew over to the UK last week and is now working on his drum tracks - Glenn and K.K. have been very busy with their guitar parts - Rob will be flying back to the UK very soon to start on his vocals and of course Ian will be laying down his great solid bass lines imminently!
"We know you are all impatient but you have to trust the guys and know they will come up with a great record - they like to keep their heads down and get on with it!
"We heard some ridiculous rumours about the band playing a secret gig in Birmingham, UK.......total rubbish!! Where do these things start!! The band have not played any secret shows - they are very busy working on the new album!!"
