AUDIOSLAVE, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS and SYSTEM OF A DOWN are among the artists recording peace songs for a compilation produced by Rick Rubin, according to MTV.com. The as-yet-untitled compilation will feature both covers and originals. Other acts set to appear on the CD include (INTERNATIONAL) NOISE CONSPIRACY and WEEZER. A release date for the project has yet to be announced.
Three more tracks from the forthcoming IN FLAMES album, "Soundtrack to Your Escape", have been posted online in streaming format at the German Metal Hammer web site. Listen to the songs "F(r)iend", "My Sweet Shadow" and "In Search For I" at this location.
"Soundtrack To Your Escape" is scheduled for release in North America on April 6 through Nuclear Blast Records. The CD will arrive in Europe one week earlier (March 29).
As previously reported, IN FLAMES will be teaming up with KILLSWITCH ENGAGE for a co-headlining North American tour beginning on May 3 in the Midwest. The month-long run will tentatively wrap up on June 4 on the East Coast. Also appearing on the bill will be AS I LAY DYING.
ZYKLON's video for the track "Psyklon Aeon" has recently been serviced to regional as well as key national outlets — including MTV2's "Headbanger's Ball". Guitarist Samoth says: "This is the first official video for ZYKLON. It's exciting for us to finally get it broadcasted in the U.S., especially now with the "Headbanger's Ball" being back in business. The video features live clips from various shows last summer and from numerous locations in the Norwegian wilderness."
ZYKLON, featuring former members of EMPEROR, recently completed a three-week European tour with ARCH ENEMY. Samoth says of the tour: "Except for a few set backs, the tour went very well for us. It was great to be back out touring in Europe. Highlights were definitely Italy, Spain and France, with good turnouts and really enthusiastic crowds."
In other related news, Candlelight Records will be issuing "Into the Woods of Belial" from THOU SHALT SUFFER. The album, previously unavailable in the U.S., features Samoth and EMPEROR vocalist Ihsahn. "I've been thinking of re-issuing this album for quite some time, especially considering it was never properly available in the U.S.," says Samoth, whose Nocturnal Art Productions originally released the album. "I think to this day the album offers strong and classic material. It is definitely a piece of Norwegian metal history; dark, obscure death metal that spawned the creation of EMPEROR."
Later this year, Candlelight will reissue the entire EMPEROR catalog, until recently available via license to Century Media Records. Enhancements and additions are expected (specifics not available at press time). THOU SHALT SUFFER's "Into the Woods of Belial" will hit stores nationwide on May 18.
Veteran German thrashers DESTRUCTION were joined by former members Tommy Sandmann (drums), Harry Wilkens (guitar) and Sven Vormann (drums) during their DVD-release party on March 12 at the House of Rock "Atlantis" in Herboldsheim (near Freiburg), Germany. The group played a full "best of 20 years" live set, including all the classic and new band anthems. Also scheduled were various competitions, a DVD preview, a signing session and "a lot of booze!" Click here to check out a bunch of pictures taken at the party.
DESTRUCTION's live DVD, "Live Discharge - 20 Years Of Total Destruction", was officially released in Europe two weeks ago. The disc comes with a bonus CD featuring the "Alive Devastation" Japan-only release from 2003.
MTV.com reports: "A California court has postponed the DUI case of VELVET REVOLVER singer Scott Weiland until April 23. Last October, Weiland was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs after crashing his BMW into a parked van. On Tuesday, the singer is scheduled to receive a progress report from the Los Angeles district attorney's office."
VELVET REVOLVER's much-anticipated debut album, "Contraband", is scheduled for release on June 8 through RCA Records. The album's first single, "Slither", will be delivered to radio for airplay consideration in April, according to the radio industry trade publication FMQB (Friday Morning Quarterback).
VELVET REVOLVER will film a video for "Slither" next month. Director Kevin Kerslake recently shot interior and exterior scenes in Los Angeles and Europe (including catacombs footage in France), while the band will film their performance in early April.
As previously reported, "Contraband" will include twelve of the more than fifty tracks the band co-wrote before and after vocalist Scott Weiland (ex-STONE TEMPLE PILOTS) joined the lineup last spring. The CD was produced by Josh Abraham (LIMP BIZKIT, STAIND) and mixed by Andy Wallace (NIRVANA, WHITE ZOMBIE, LINKIN PARK, SLAYER, SEPULTURA). Mastering took place on December 19 in New York City.
Cruachan will be playing in Dublin on the 6th of April at the Voodoo Lounge to celebrate the release of their new album "Pagan". Furthermore the band is planning a headline Benelux mini-tour after the summer months. More details as they solidify.
We have a brand new song from FEAR MY THOUGHT's upcoming album "The Great Collapse available in the download section. The song is entitled "Sirens Singing" and will be the 4th track on the album. downset. is geared up to unleash their 4th album, "Universal", April 20 th on Seattle-based Hawino Records. The band just completed 11 blistering new songs, and has been performing sporadically as they return to the top of the amalgamated world they created over a decade ago. Tracks like "Forever", "All Crews", "Black Glock", and "Jumpin' Off", showcase the uncompromising anger and gritty reality downset. fans have learned to expect.
downset. will unleash at the Whisky-A-Go-Go Thursday, April 8th in a one-night-only limited edition show with Anthrax. The band is expected to preview their new album live at the show.
LAMB OF GOD drummer Chris Adler has given the latest on the new cd, and other information, check it out.
"What's new everyone? Lot's going on over here. We have been keeping our heads very low at home writing the new CD, but things are a whirlwind around us. We've almost completed the writing and it feels very, very good. We demo'd 7 songs in late Jan. and have written 4 more since. I don't want to try and describe it because I will inevitably give someone some type of expectation and we purposely tossed any idea of expectations out the window when we began the writing process. We get a lot of mail asking if we have changed since the last record and if so how and why? The simple answer is 'Hell Yes!!!' - here's the how/why - We've individually all grown as players and have more to offer, together we know each other as musicians better than ever and are a better band for it, and collectively we now have even more experience making kick ass music.
We make the music we love, not radio jams or hit singles but strong, challenging and thought provoking music that we care about and put a lot into. At the end of the day when we look back on all of this, every member of this band wants to hold their head high and know we gave it our all and did it our way. That may not be the recipe for 'success' in this business, but it is the recipe to avoid regret - and for better or worse - that's how we roll. Enough about the new stuff, needless to say, we haven't disappointed ourselves - our toughest critics by far.
The DVD has been out for a bit and it's funny to hear the stories back from our friends and fans that have seen it and have similar stories of their own to tell. We were really excited to be able to offer that glimpse into our world and keep the price down. When it comes down to it, we're fans of music just like you. We go to the concerts and buy the t-shirts and DVD's and hate getting reamed on these things. The last thing we ever want to do is to rip off the people that support us. We will always fight to keep our quality high and our cost low out of respect for the people who help make it possible for us to do this. Thanks to everyone who picked up a DVD, we appreciate it and hope you enjoy it.
Ozzfest. Who knew? Yes, we turned it down last year. Yes, we accepted this year. Look at the difference in the billing. Case closed.
As for scheduling and release stuff - as crazy as it sounds (to us anyway), we're going to attempt to record the new CD before we tour this summer. There are a lot of things that play into this so don't hold me to it, but this will potentially allow for a fall 04 (Sept/Oct) release. There's a ton more happening including the release of As the Palaces Burn on vinyl, but I'll have to leave that till next time. Time to go 'make the donuts' (rehearsal).

Dutch death metallers BLO.TORCH came out victorious in the "Grote Prijs van Zuid-Holland" competition finals Friday night (March 19) "after showing the jury, the audience and the five other finalists what we're made of," according to a post on the group's web site. "Besides direct placement in the regional finals of 'De Grote Prijs van Nederland', we won an extensive prize package, including money prize, photo session, promo cards, studio time, 500 maxi single pressings + booklet, and playing on several festivals."
As previously reported, BLO.TORCH recently completed work on their sophomore album, "Volatile". The follow-up to 1999's "Blo.torch" (Wicked World) was produced by Hans Pietersen at Excess Studio in Rotterdam, Holland and is tentatively scheduled for release this spring through an as-yet-undetermined label.

British black metal pioneers VENOM have revealed the details of their new lineup and upcoming recording/touring activities. Joining bassist/vocalist Conrad "Cronos" Lant and drummer Antton is the latest addition to the group's ranks, American guitarist Mykus.
Commented Cronos: "I have chosen the most talented and deadliest of all the musicians who've ever been in this band to work with."
The new tracks are said to be "very much in the vein of the early VENOM — ferocious, raw and deeply Satanic, with a 21st century production and 25 years of experience. Look out disbelievers, this is VENOM at their most dangerous and hostile!"
VENOM, who are in the process of negotiating a new recording deal, are currently recording some tracks to be webcast directly from the "Updates/Music" section of their official web site as a test, before uploading some new video footage of the band using the latest streaming multi-bit-rate technology. Several live shows are planned later in the year as well.
VENOM's last studio album, "Resurrection", was released in 2000.
Members of SLIPKNOT attended a show by the first-ever SLIPKNOT tribute band DISASTERPIECE on Thursday, March 18 at The House of Bricks in Des Moines, Iowa.
Commented DISASTERPIECE in their newsletter: "It was a most exciting and surreal experience for all of us here in DISASTERPIECE. Especially Joe Lohr #4 who received from [SLIPKNOT guitarist] Jim Root his personal first custom-made Fender guitar that he used on the last tour and Jim's second original mask. This is the first time any fan has received an original mask ever. Jim's first mask is in the custody of the ink god Paul Booth.
"Mick, Jim, Sid, Corey, Joey, Paul and Chris attended the show and were blown away and Mick [was] quoted [as] saying, ' That was the coolest thing I have ever seen.' And Jim [was] quoted [as] saying, 'This is weird... I'm watching us... They got it down.' So we have received the ultimate compliment and the band gave us their permission to continue. Mick did not threaten to kill any of us, so we must [have] done it right.
"Not only did the members themselves come out but many of the SLIPKNOT crew members attended this show as well and they were very impressed as well."
Mar. 26 - The Elixir - Rockford, IL
Mar. 27 - Canopy Club - Urbana, IL
Apr. 02 - Clearwater Theater - West Dundee, IL
