Rot In Hell Posts Studio Update

Rot In Hell is currently in the studio recording their new album, to be released on Deathwish in early 2009. Here's some words from the band:

"...It's like some fucking jack the ripper shit here; loads of fog which has meant that Nathan is stranded and fog-bound in Malta. We had a violinist come down, she's just left actually, the stuff she's done is absolutely mind blowing; some seriously mournful shit; I'm thinking Mean Season meets My Dying Bride. You'll love it, it will make you weep..."

Leathermouth Sets Release Date For Debut Album

New Jersey hardcore group LEATHERMOUTH, who recently signed to Epitaph Records, will release their debut album, "XO," on January 27, 2009.

In 2007, Iero, guitarist of the hugely popular band My Chemical Romance, reached his tipping point and created LEATHERMOUTH with Rob Hughes, a friend from Iero's home state of New Jersey.

"I think there is a void of bands that are outspoken on things that actually matter," explains Iero. "There's too much bad hair and white belts. Sometimes it nice to turn your brain off and just listen to someone sing about girls. I'm not knocking it. I do think there is a time and a place. But LeATHERMOUTH isn't like that...it's about hate. Hate that boils up inside and eats away at you, if you don't vomit it up you know it will eventually destroy you."

"I would say this record is about trying to wake people up to what is happening right in front of their eyes," Iero continues. "We are all trying our hardest to pretend bad things don't happen to good people, and that there is some higher power looking over us...but it's bullshit. Stop covering your children's eyes. Everything is fucked, and pretending it's not isn't making things any better. I'm tired of people praying for a change when it's up to them to get off their asses and make a change."

LeATHERMOUTH will be touring sporadically in support of "XO" in 2009, in between Frank's duties to My Chemical Romance.

Here is the "XO" tracklisting: More...

Alice In Chains Posts Studio Update

Alice In Chains blogger, Baldy has posted the following message online:

"Here we are in December, the holiday season is in full swing, and William (DuVall - lead vocals, rhythm guitar) and Jerry (Cantrell - lead guitar, vocals) are just a few days away from recording vocals. Guitars and bass are heading down the home stretch, and although the drums are done, Sean (Kinney- drums) is coming in almost every day to provide input and give full body massages to anyone he can get his hands on.

"There's not a lot to report because it's pretty much like the movie Groundhog Day in here, just with a different soundtrack each day. Recording an album can be a long and laborious process. Play the song. Tune the guitar or bass. Play the song again. Tune again. Play a different part of the song with a different guitar. Tune again. Try something different on the bridge. Tune. Play a 12 string on the chorus. Tune. And so on and so on and so on… More...

Movie To Be Made About AC/DC Singer Bon Scott

Filmmaker Eddie Martin has confirmed that he is working on a movie about the life of deceased AC/DC frontman, Bon Scott. He states: "We’ve been working heavily on it for a couple of months. It’s early days. We are in the writing process. We’ve been meeting with Gaby, Mary, Irene and The Valentines crew, people like Vince Lovegrove, Bon’s early friends." (Irene was Bon’s former wife).

Eddie says he is still looking for people from the era who knew Bon. “It is at research stage,” he says.

Apparantly they are still looking for people to play the legendary frontman but the role of lead guitarist Angus Young looks like it will be going to actor Tom Budge who has appeared in the likes of Three Dollars, Australian Rules and The Night We Called It A Day.

Bloodbath Causes Controversy With New T-Shirt

Swedish metal act Bloodbath has posted the following message online:

"We have just learned that our latest shirt design has run into some controversy. Actually, It’s been a bit of a rocky road from the start with this one. Back at the sketch board, some of our art direction ideas were met by hesitation and according to the designer would feel 'uncomfortable to do.' However, the design went through and obviously with such a fantastic piece of artwork and beautiful symbolism the t-shirt has hit home with Bloodbath’s audience all over the world, but apparently a demon vomiting on Jesus on a cross, surrounded by snakes, vultures and skulls was over the line for some confused ” death metal” fans. Perhaps they should ask themselves if it was really death metal they were searching for in the first place. Here are examples of some Dr Phil approved quotes we recieved:

"Recently saw your t-shirt 'Mock The Cross'. It seems rather childish and immature not to mention very dangerous, to ridicule Christ. Why such disdainment for the incarnate God who died to save all mankind, even your sorry asses! If you have a problem with organized religion that’s one thing. It has little to do with Christ and His life and teachings. Of course if you curse Him in apparent ignorance, then you wouldn’t know the difference. Hell won’t be a cool place to be. The power of the cross is foolishness to those perishing."

"I Don’t care about all the satan woreshippers that are gonna flame me. But, BloodBath YOU JUST LOST A FAN. On that degrading shirt. I believe what i believe. I rather not have bands mock it. This band is done. Never again. See you on judgment day." More...

Axl Rose Missing For Two Months

A number of news outlets are reporting that Guns N Roses frontman Axl Rose has been missing for two months.

Music-News.com reports: Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose has been missing for two months.

The eccentric rocker has infuriated bosses at record label Geffen after disappearing without promoting the band’s long-awaited "Chinese Democracy" album, which was released last week 15 years after the last Guns N' Roses LP.

A source told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "People have been trying to contact Axl for two months and he’s completely AWOL [Absent Without Leave].

"It is frustrating because the album would have had a much better chance of going to number one if he had only been prepared to show his face.

"You would have thought after spending all those years on an album you might do a few weeks of promotion. 'Everyone knows Axl is a bit of a maverick genius and won’t do anything he doesn’t want to.'"

As previously reported, "Chinese Democracy" debuted on the Billboard album charts at number 3. The album apparantly sold 261,000 copies in its first week of release in the United States. So far, Chinese Democracy has only gone to number one in Brazil and Finland.

Thin Lizzy Stops Phil Lynott Movie Being Made

Nightwatcher's House Of Rock is reporting:

A Hollywood movie based on the life of late THIN LIZZY frontman/bassist Phil Lynott has been shelved - after surviving band members accused filmmakers of sensationalizing the star's drug abuse.

Lynott died of heart failure and pneumonia on January 4, 1986 at the age of 36, after years of alcohol and drug abuse.

A biopic, starring CSI actor Gary Dourdan in the lead role, was set to be shot - but the project has now been halted after Thin Lizzy's remaining members expressed their concerns.

And guitarist Scott Gorham insisted the movie's directors will not win their approval until the script is completely rewritten. More...

Atheist Frontman Wants To Hear From The Fans

Atheist frontman Kelly Schaffer has posted the following message online:

"Since our return to the scene in 2006 so many from all over the world have written such great notes of inspiration to us through replies to blogs, or through emails, but I would like to create more of a community of people sharing the thoughts that you send to us, and post them on our Comments page as opposed to replies to blogs, in the months leading up to the release of the most important record we will ever make in my humble opinion. Those comments will help drive this ship to new lands (if I could borrow from ROBERT PLANT) Myself and the others in the band will participate as well in discussions about the record on the comments page about your experience with our music, some of the things you write are amazing and I wish more people could hear them, and what level of participation our music has had in the soundtrack to your particular lives, and paths. In the early days of Atheist we would correspond with one another through photocopied fanzines and letters back and forth, and that was the best! Now, it only makes sense, with the development of the internet to parlay that into this medium, and it's waaaaay easier, old school fuckers will tell you that. And if you could do us the favour of not posting these huge banner ads on the comments page so we can keep load times down for those without high speed hook ups. We look forward to your opinions and thoughts on the band, we will be reading!!!!! Those with the coolest and most interesting thoughts, and opinions, will find themselves handpicked by us to be backstage chilling with us at upcoming shows in every city we perform in during our tour 2009! Thanks for all of your motivating words, and we hope to satisfy the metal masses with some sick ass technical brutality!"

Dr Pepper Responds To Guns N Roses

Dallas Business Journal is reporting:

Beverage company Dr Pepper Snapple Group responded to the GUNS N' ROSES controversy on Tuesday after singer Axl Rose blamed the beverage giant for botching a promotional effort that promised fans free beverage coupons if they managed to log onto Dr Pepper’s Web site and sign up for a free Dr Pepper coupon during a limited period in which the company was celebrating the belated release of Guns N’ Roses’ Chinese Democracy album.

During the first stretch of the campaign, free Dr Pepper seekers flooded the Web site, which caused the site to crash, making it difficult for others to sign on.

Dr Pepper extended the campaign to accommodate beverage seekers who experienced the site crash.

According to an interview given to CNN, Guns N’ Roses lawyer Laurie Soriano said the campaign and its shortcomings were wrongfully associated with Axl Rose. In the interview with CNN, Rose’s attorney said her client wants the company to make good on the offer.

In a statement Tuesday, Plano-based Dr Pepper Snapple Group said, “We are disappointed that GN'R’s lawyers are turning a fun giveaway into a legal dispute. We simply commented on the delayed release of Chinese Democracy and openly encouraged the band to release it before the end of the year. Axl even expressed support for our efforts earlier in the year.” More...

Tacere Reveals New Line-up

The new female singer of the Finnish melodic metal masters Tacere is "Taiya R." from Tampere, Finland. She was selected after a long application process lasting for over 6 months.

Tacere also hired a new keyboard player, "Veli-Matti Kananen", who is best known for playing with bands such as Poisonblack and Eternal Tears of Sorrow.

Here is what the band's leader "Karri Knuuttila" had to say about the situation:

"We were astonished about the huge amount of singers applying for the band from all around the world. Making a decision about the new singer was hard as there were a lot of talented applicants, some of who already had existing publicity and status. But in Taiya we found the perfect singer: She is extremely talented, looks killer, has a very cool attitude & stage presence and most importantly her personality fits the band perfectly. Now with the new line-up the motivation of the band is higher than ever and we're really excited about the future of our band."

Tacere is planning to enter the studios in February 2009 to start recording a follow up for the 2007 debut album "Beautiful Darkness." The release date has yet to be announced as the band is still looking for a proper partner to release the album with. The band will also have the first live performance with the new line-up already during this month in Helsinki, Finland.

Compos Mentis Posts New Track Online

Danish metallers Compos Mentis has uploaded "Arusia," the new track from their forthcoming album, "Our Kingdom of Decay," on their MySpace page.

The band comments: "With its straightforward riffing, catchy chorus and energetic character the song displays some of the new elements that are incoporated in the music on 'Our Kingdom of Decay.' However, there will also both be way faster and more brutal songs as well as slower and more atmospheric hymns on the album.

"On the surface the 'Arusia' lyric is about our home town, Aarhus, which is reflected in the fact that the melody from the town hall bells is included in the music, but themes such as alienation and conflicts between the individual and the community are also present."

Check out "Arusia" at www.myspace.com/composmentisdk.

Ensiferum to Perform for Mumbai Victims

Indian Express reports:

When the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IITB) begins with Livewire — Mood Indigo’s platform for the best bands in India— students, band members and rock-lovers alike will pay tribute to the victims of Mumbai Terror strikes in a unique way.

For the first time, an international band will perform on a city stage without charging the audience an entry fee — something unheard of in a city where entertainment tax is often the biggest dampener for audiences and bands alike.

The concert will be dedicated to victims of the terror attacks, something organisers of the festival feel they must do as a means to show their solidarity with them.

Finnish rock band Ensiferum will perform on December 20, at the Open Air Theatre at IITB. The band comprises Petri Lindroos (vocals, guitar), Markus Toivonen (guitar, vocals) Sami Hinkka (bass, vocals), Janne Parviainen (drums) and Emmi Silvennoinen (live/ session keyboards).

“We had called the band in September. They confirmed it recently. When we told them about dedicating it to the victims, they were extremely willing and said it gave them an even better reason to come,” said third year mechanical engineering student Ishank Gupta, co-ordinator, Media and Public Relations.

As a policy, says Gupta, Mood Indigo has never charged an entry fee for the concerts. “But this is the first time that an international concert is being held without an entry fee being charged. Professional rock bands usually have high charges for entry, anywhere between Rs 500 and Rs 1,000. But we decided to waive it as a symbolic gesture,” he said.

“We are not donating any money, but we are waiving the entry fee. We already have a special cause lined up for Mood Indigo this year. Starting from December 4th, we have a blood donation drive from 18 locations around the city. We will give the blood to hospitals that have the maximum number of victims,” he said.
