Brown Brigade, the metal band featuring former Sum 41 guitarist Dave "Brownsound" Baksh, recently posted and update where they discuss going online-only with rare physical releases. Here's the entire update:
"So Vaughn and I have finally decided what we are going to do. Brown Brigade will be strictly and online presence with a few tiny moments of vinyl, and splits. When we started the idea for this band the industry was not well equipped for a strictly online presence. Songs will now consist of a lineup we ultimately decide. So we won't be sticking to standard bullshit. We will also write a lot more than metal so be prepared and don't be a pussy when it comes to the 'out there' stuff we make. I hope you all understand that Vaughn has a business to run and I have much of my time being put into Organ Thieves these days.
"When we tried to make BB a fulltime gig we found we were met with a lot of hostility from metal elitists, most of them born post 1990. I hate to sound like an old man but if you think you know metal you can go fuck yourself. We also got some hostility from punkers as well. This surprised me as a particular group of 'punx' from our Pennywise tour told us to 'Eat shit and die.' This was said right as they were entering an H2 driven by what appeared to be their mother. I should mention they took special care in making sure their mohawks didn't hit the ceiling. I can understand it probably costs a lot to get that done at the salon, not to mention the price of hair fudge these days.
"We also know many of you are saying 'Whoah man ease up.' I think we have spent too much time 'easing up.' My hippie blood is boiling so eat a dick."

Guitarist Tim Carley of The Rotted has issued the following statement about a delay of postcards which feature their "Anarchogram" logo:
"In an annoying example of religion getting in the way of art on even the most basic level, we’ve had the manufacture of some merchandise for the tour delayed! The item in question, the postcards we had planned to give away at the shows next week features our ‘Anarchogram’ logo, and the printers have refused to print them due to the company's ‘Christian faith’. How outdated, mundane, backwards and boring! But its their right and their choice to lose out on some cash, so fuck 'em!!
"The Anarchogram is a logo we use to show our loyalty to, and unity between the metal, punk and hardcore scenes we love! The Anarchogram is a symbol we designed using a pentagram and an anarchy ‘A’ blended together, with the pentagram representing metal and the anarchy ‘A’ representing punk! The slogan ‘No Gods No Governments’ is a statement of intent, basically think for yourselves! Don’t believe the bullshit of religion and don’t believe the scaremongers and liars that run the world. Just try to be an individual and live life your way! Band members and friends of the band have already had the Anarchogram tattooed and we will be adding some tattoo flash (designed by Trudgill) to our websites for anyone to download and get tattooed if they like the idea too! We hope to get the postcards printed elsewhere in time for Sunday and the start of the tour with Alestorm. We had planned to offer them as signed limited edition freebies on the merchandise stalls so hopefully we can still do this. More...
We, The Undersigned have issued the following final tour blog from their "Off With Their Heads" tour:
"November 20th - Langford Legion Auditorium – Victoria, BC. For our 2nd show on the island, we hit up the capital of British Columbia, Victoria, one of the more beautiful places Canada has to offer. Headlining the show is local funk rockers 'Funk Vigilante.' Legion shows are typically fun so we were looking forward to this one.
"The trend of good draws we’ve been having through BC didn’t let up, we got what looked like about 80-100 through the door (thanks to both NS and Funk Vigilante for that). Unfortunately during our set the power to the main PA was cutting out and we lost all mics. This happened 3 times in the set, one time taking 20 minutes to resolve. Luckily it stayed on for the last 4 songs so we ripped them as hard as we could for the ones that stuck around. Oh well, we were about due for some tech issues, it had been a while. Karma, you sly duck! More...

KillWhitneyDead has issued the following statement about releasing a new album in 2010:
"The most asked question I get besides 'who is Whitney?' has been 'when are you guys releasing a new album?' Well, I am happy to report that work has begun on new KWD material for release in 2010 (most likely summertime, naturally). The material is only in the writing phase and nowhere near being recorded yet.
"It's been a long time coming for most KWD fans considering Nothing Less Nothing More and Hell To Pay were both released June 4th 2007, but to be honest with everyone out there I just haven't wanted to write anything recently (well, for the last 2 years actually). I have chatted with so many fans over the years about 'inspiration' and how that is important to KWD's music. KWD is not like most other bands out there in the scene. It is not our living, so we are not at the 'mercy' of the road and constantly having to tour. So KWD does not need to rush into the studio and write songs in a month so that a new album can be released in time to jump on the next big tour. We have never operated like that and, thankfully, NEVER will. So up until right now I have not felt 'inspired' to work on anything new for KWD, so I figured I wouldn't grind my gears on something I wasn't into doing. But, now KWD has entered a new era and it's time to dust off the mental cobwebs and get going again! More...

Nothnegal has issued the following update about their upcoming album:
"Guess its time for an update on the developments on our upcoming album. We have completed writing all songs that would appear on it and currently in studio going through the recording process and even though we have been working on these songs since last July we are still perfecting/fine tuning them to make sure we achieve what we are really looking for.
"We focused mostly on creating a more unique sound which differentiates us more and the result turned out to be almost something completely different from what we had with 'Antidote of Realism EP' but we still managed to keep the melodic keyboard elements intact while getting them to sound darker and epic than before. Sweden’s OPETH will commemorate their twentieth anniversary in the of Spring 2010 with six exclusive shows that will take place across the globe in various international locales such as Stockholm, Sweden; Essen, Germany; Paris, France; London, UK; New York City, NY; and Los Angeles, CA.
Frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt had the following to say on behalf of the band: “I can’t believe it, but... fuck, we’re celebrating 20 years. I’ve been in this band ever since I was 16. It’s insane. As far as I remember, we’ve never had a release party, never celebrated anything officially. Well, now is the time, you hear? We’ve set up a string of shows, six of them actually, around the world. To say that they will be super-exclusive is beyond an understatement. We’ve discussed the set list already and it seems like we’ll pull out a few songs we’ve never played before, some of which fans all over the world have been demanding to hear for years and years. Our main agenda for these shows is to have ‘fun’ whilst trying to blow your fucking minds. You could say business as usual, but really, it’ll be special. I can’t stress enough how exclusive this will be. We will not add any more shows on top of the six that we’ve confirmed already, so please make up your mind early on whether you want to go or not - of course you fucking do- as I would assume there’s quite a few of our fans that might be interested in seeing a thing like this.”
Akerfeldt said the band will spend the better part of January through March rehearsing for this special series of shows. “All to make you fucking happy! OK, we’ll be tight, very tight indeed. Come see us.” It’s a celebration,” he finished.
At each show, the band will perform two sets. The first set will feature the band playing its breakthrough epic "Blackwater Park" in its entirety. The second set will consist of mixed material from the band’s extensive catalog. The band will be playing for over two hours at carefully selected venues in order to achieve an element of intimacy and exclusivity, and an overall “You had to be there” vibe.
The venues include the famed and prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London, as well as the luxurious Lichtburg in Essen, the oldest fully seated cinema in Germany.
The band will offer exclusive VIP ticket packages to all shows which include a laminated VIP pass exclusive to each show, access to sound check, a meet ‘n greet with Opeth, a t-shirt exclusive to that particular show, a signed tour program and a special edition CD/DVD of Blackwater Park, with a 5.1 mix and a 30-minute, never-before-seen documentary all nicely packaged in a hard cover digipack designed by artist Travis Smith. The special edition will be released in March 2010 through Sony Music. All the Opeth loot will be included in an Opeth rucksack. British thrashers EVILE recently recorded a PANTERA track for the upcoming Dimebag Darrell tribute album, which will be released on the cover of the 200th issue of the UK's Metal Hammer magazine.
The special CD and magazine are being released to coincide with the five-year anniversary of Dimebag's passing, and will be available in shops on December 16th.
Alongside various other well-known bands such as MACHINE HEAD, EVILE were asked to record a song as a tribute to the late guitarist. EVILE recorded a cover of the track "Cemetary Gates," and this tragically turned out to be the band's last recording before the untimely death of their own bassist, Mike Alexander, who passed away on October 5th while on tour in Sweden.
A behind-the-scenes video - the last video filmed with Mike - of EVILE recording the track at Parlour Studios with producer Russ Russell can be viewed below.
EVILE lead guitarist Ol Drake comments:
"The day we got the call from our manager, Julie Weir, saying Metal Hammer have asked us to pay tribute to Dimebag Darrell by covering a Pantera song, we couldn't have been more excited and honoured. I mean, how many more bands are there more worthy of paying tribute to the man? With us all being fans of Pantera, we swiftly said yes. Mike though was the biggest Pantera fan. He'd seen them years ago and absolutely worshipped Dimebag.
"After Dime got killed, Mike couldn't listen to 'Cemetary Gates' anymore. He'd always ask us to skip the track in the car/van/bus because it was too much for him. So when we chose to do the track it was tough for Mike, but I'm glad he did it. It turned out to be the last song he recorded, which to me is a strangely 'appropriate' tribute to him and Dimebag. I remember him nearing the verge of tears whilst I was doing the tremolo bends at the end of the track.
"We hope Pantera/Dimebag fans find this a fitting tribute from us, as we're simply fans ourselves who've been given this rare honour."
Metal Hammer editor Alexander Milas comments:
"I was genuinely over the moon when Evile volunteered to produce a track for our upcoming Dimebag tribute, a stunningly rendered cover of Pantera's classic 'Cemetary Gates'. So when the truly tragic news of Mike Alexander's all-too-premature departure from this world hit the office, the tragic irony wasn't lost on me or anyone here that Mike Alexander's tribute to the immortal legacy of Dimebag would also be a final testament to his own impeccable musicianship and commitment to the music we love.
"To understate the case slightly, it's a very special track indeed, and we're honoured that it's a part of our upcoming tribute collection. Rest in peace Dimebag, and rest in peace Mike Alexander."
The Dimebag Darrell tribute album contains the following tracks:
01. ZAKK WYLDE - "Suicide Note Pt. 1"
02. MACHINE HEAD - "Fucking Hostile"
03. MALEFICE - "I'm Broken"
04. AVENGED SEVENFOLD - "Walk"
05. EVILE - "Cemetery Gates"
06. FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH - "A New Level"
07. BIOHAZARD - "Mouth For War"
08. SYLOSIS - "Strength Beyond Strength"
09. CHIMAIRA - "Slaughtered"
10. UNEARTH - "Sandblasted Skin"
11. THROWDOWN - "Becoming"
12. KIUAS - "This Love"
13. THIS IS HELL - "Rise"

New York metal band Burning the Memory has issued the following update regarding their recent lineup changes:
"After several years of having the same line-up we are going through some changes right now. Ozzy was a great vocalist and good friend but in the early part of September we decided to go our separate ways due to business reasons and not due to any personal reasons whatsoever. In addition, in late October, we had to go our separate ways with Dom as well. Yet again, all business nothing personal. Looking back on it now, I wish we could have had an official last show for both of them so that we could have recognized what they both contributed to the band over the years respectively. As far as new members go, you may have noticed in the video we posted that we have been fortunate enough to find a new vocalist already in Chris Salvia. Chris filled in for us at the Killswitch Engage show at Jones Beach on very short notice and he became a permanent member of the band shortly thereafter. Since parting ways with Dom we have been fortunate enough to have found a substitute guitarist for the moment and we will hopefully have a permanent guitarist soon. I hope everyone can understand and accept these changes we have undergone. In conclusion, on behalf of the whole band I would like to wish Ozzy and Dom the very best in all that they do from this day forth both musically and non-musically."
Finland's Abysmalia, a project of Jouni Koskela, issues the following update on his MySpace page:
"ABYSMALIA will shortly begin recording the upcoming third album, which is tentatively titled as 'Replenish Entirety.'
