Darkspace Headlining Black Lights Festival 2009

Darkspace has been tapped to headline the 2009 Black Lights Festival, which takes place on July 10-11, 2009 in Divišov u Benešova, Czech Republic.

Ancara Guitarist Departs, Band Seeking Replacement

After five years, Samuel Hjelt has left the line-up of Ancara. Because of this, Ancara is looking for a motivated, skilled and experienced rock-guitarist with skillful singing talent to fill the void in the band, who is not afraid of hard work and touring. Preferably a Finnish resident.

In the meantime, Ancara continues to record their third album with the producer Hiili Hiilismaa (HIM, Apocalyptica, Amorphis, Lordi, 69 Eyes, Sentenced, Sepultura...) in Matrixtor Studios. The album is scheduled to be released by 2009 through Timo Kotipelto's (Stratovarius, Kotipelto) High & Loud records. More information will follow.

Maryland Deathfest Announces 2 Replacement Bands

Maryland Deathfest has announced Cephalic Carnage and Cattle Decapitation as replacements for Enslaved, Keep of Kalessin, and Swallow The Sun, whose North American tour together was scrapped. One more band will be announced before January 1st.

Maryland Deathfest VII will take place on May 22-24, 2009, at Sonar, Baltimore, MD. Tickets are currently on sale.

Heavy Metal Making A Cautious Comeback In Egypt

The mostly black-clad crowd goes wild in a frenzy of slam dancing to the music of heavy metal band Black Sabbath, played by Egyptian rockers on a placid bank of the Nile river.

Heavy metal musicians and fans, once branded as dangerous Satanists by the Cairo government, are making a quiet comeback in deeply conservative Egypt, where they are trying to avoid missteps that sent heavy metal to the gallows in the mid-1990s.

It has taken heavy metal artists and fans years to crawl back to the limelight and in the meantime a new generation of rockers has emerged, playing safe and imposing self-censorship to avoid accusations of devil worship. More...

Tank To Reform With New Lineup

Legendary British heavy metal band Tank has announced that they will be reforming with a new lineup. The group will feature original guitarists Mick Tucker and Cliff Evans aswell as original drummer Mark Brabbs and will also have former Rainbow and Yngwie Malmsteem vocalist Doogie White. Completing the lineup will be bassist Chris Dale who has previously worked as a member of Bruce Dickinson's solo band. The main focus of the comeback seems to be on live performances, no word has been given on if the band will record a new album.

Blood Obsession Posts New Music Online

New York death metallers, BLOOD OBSESSION, have issued the following update:

"Long-awaited new material is now available from BLOOD OBSESSION. We've released the first song already via our MySpace player and will be releasing one per week for the next three weeks."

Nine Inch Nails And RATM To Tour?

Although no official response has been released, there are reports that Rage Against The Machine will be joining forces with industrial legends Nine Inch Nails for a North American tour next year. The rumoured tour is expected to begin sometime in the spring.

Alestorm Recording New Album

Scottish pirate metal band Alestorm are planning on releasing a new album titled "Black Sails at Midnight" in 2009. Napalm Records issued the following statement:

"The Scottish buccaneers have not been idle the past few weeks. Besides an occasional raid and plunder, Alestorm entered the studio to work on new material. The hard work has paid off. Pirate Chris has already confirmed the delivery of hymns in the traditional Alestorm style: Sing-along refrains, keyboard melodies, heavy guitar riffs, and a full mug of rum! All of that and much more will be found on the upcoming album “Black Sails at Midnight”, which will be unleashed upon corsairs and landlubbers in the spring of 2009. Hoist the sails and polish the grapnels."

Dogeyegod Posts New Songs Online

Newly formed Finnish metal band DogeYegoD has posted two new tracks on their official MySpace page. The band issued the following statement about their formation and the new tracks:

"DogeYegoD is a band which rises from the ruins of the band called Misery Inc. Modern Metal would describe the band's sound the best. The band was formed in the summer of 2008. All members have a noticeable experience from different bands and they want to bring all of their knowledge and experience to this band, DogeYegoD.

Sacred Oath Finishes Recording New Album

Conneticut based power metal band Sacred Oath has finished recording their new self-titled album and will be playing one of the new tracks on their official website. The band issued the following statement on their MySpace page:

"Sacred Oath is making an unmastered mp3 of the song from their brand new album freely available at www.sacredoath.net in celebration of their redesigned website.

The new self-titled album from Sacred Oath contains 14 songs, including Blood Storm, Paradise Lost, Scourge of Sin, Buried Alive, and is expected to see a late-spring 2009 release date.

Dave Mustaine Sells Coffee For Mexican Orphanage

Megadeth front man Dave Mustaine issued the following statement on his official website's forum:

"I just wanted to take the time to inform you of my privilege to be able to make a contribution today to the Door of Faith orphanage in Mexico. Thanks to all of the Net Worth Coffee Brokers customers and 'Mustaine Coffee Crew Members,' we were able to come through for the orphanage again this year.

Like I mentioned in my post in the Members Only area of the Coffee Crew site, 'I wanted to take this time to point out to you the tremendous success that we have had with Net Worth Coffee Brokers, Inc.,' and 'inform you that we are able to make a sizeable donation to the orphanage before the end of the year.' The Konsortium Signs To Agonia Records

Norwegian black metal act The Konsortium has announced a new record deal with Agonia Records. The band is also planning on releasing a new full length in early 2009. The official statement on the band's MySpace is as follows:

"The Konsortium is pleased to announce that they have inked a deal with Agonia Records (www.agoniarecords.com) , joining fine acts such as Nocturnal Breed, Urgehal and Krypt among others. The debut will be released on CD and vinyl fall 2009.

Warped Tour 2009 Line-up and Tour Dates Revealed

The bands (barring special guiests, to be announced) and initial routing for the 2009 Vans Warped Tour have been announced. The popular punk tour, which oftens features a number of hardcore and metalcore acts, is in its 15th year. Some of the notable heavier (relatively speaking, of course) bands on this year's lineup include the likes of Black Tide, Gallows, Chiodos, Saosin, Senses Fail, The Devil Wears Prada, Underoath, and more.

Additionally, this year the tour will feature one main stage in addition to the other stages, and bands will have 40 minutes to play instead of the shorter sets in past years.

Thanatos Signs To Deity Down Records

Veteran thrash/death outfit THANATOS will release their fifth full-length album, "Justified Genocide" through DEITY DOWN RECORDS in the first quarter of 2009.

"Justified Genocide" was recorded at Excess in Rotterdam, Netherlands and mixed by Dan Swanö (of Nightingale, Edge Of Sanity and Bloodbath fame) at Unisound in Sweden.

In 2009 THANATOS will celebrate the band’s 25th anniversary.

Currently the quartet is comprised of founding member Stephan Gebédi (guitars/vocals, guitars in Hail of Bullets), Paul Baayens (guitars, Hail of Bullets, Asphyx), Marco de Bruin (bass) and drummer Yuri Rinkel (Melechesh).

The title track of the forthcoming CD as well as the song "They Feed On Fear" can be streamed on Thanatos' MySpace.
