Parkway Drive Cancels North American Tour

Australian metalcore veterans Parkway Drive has announced that they will be taking some time off and as such, have decided to cancel their tour of North America this year. A statement from the band reads as follows:

"Dear friends, family and fans,

"This is something we never thought we would be writing, but we not only all believe you deserve an explanation, but we feel the need to communicate and connect with true honesty. Firstly, this is hard, please know we are fully aware that another canceled tour is not what you want to see from us, and for any expectations or plans we have messed with, we are truly sorry.

"We have been doing this thing called Parkway Drive for nearly 20 years. We started as kids and never looked back. It has been a wild ride, but over those years, the relentless nature of being in this band has given us very little time to reflect on who we are as individuals, who we want to be and the toll it is taking on ourselves and our friendships. It has always been 100% commitment or nothing. We feel the limit has been reached and we don’t want to fuck this up. The same devotion that we have put into everything before, we are now putting into processing what these 20 years have done to us. With this, we aim to grow and return stronger for what is yet to come. We know what we need to do and we humbly ask for your respect while we take this time for the growth that is needed. It has been said that it is better to burn out than to fade away. We do not want either, so know that our return will burn brighter than the past.

"Jeff, Luke, Ben, Jia and Winston.

"P.S. We are still focused and committed to our European tour, so that will go ahead as planned in Sep/Oct 2022." More...

The Spirit Shares "Laniakea" Video

After being forced to postpone their album release to April 29th due to vinyl delivery delays, Germany's black/death metallers The Spirit reveal another track of their upcoming "Of Clarity and Galactic Structures".

Be prepared to leave this world for a short trip into space with this new instrumental track, which is the first song in the band's history to include a synthesizer:

"I guess by now it's obvious, that we have a passion for long instrumental sections in our songs as well as entirely instrumental songs", singer and guitarist Matthias Trautes comments. "We wanted to give 'Laniakea' a spacy atmosphere that fits the title and which instrument would be better suited for this than a synthesizer? We are always careful that everything we do in the recording studio can also be performed live at our shows too, since using backing tracks from a laptop is out of question for us. So a sequencer was our instrument of choice, as I can operate it while I'm playing guitar at the same time. We're looking forward to playing this one live, as this song has a lot of space for improvisations!" More...

Misery Index Unveils New Music Video

Baltimore-based death metal savants, Misery Index, have released the new single and music video for "Infiltrators." Watch the video featuring live-footage from their show at the Ottobar in Baltimore, Maryland, which was directed by Chris Joao, below. The track is off their new record, "Complete Control," to be released worldwide via Century Media Records on May 13.

Misery Index states about the song, "’Infiltrators’ is certainly the most hardcore-tinged song on the album (as well as the shortest). The lyrics target those who spew divisive, dehumanizing ideologies. It’s an outright rejection (and admittedly a strong one) of those who support and apologize for these people and their anti-social, fascistic worldviews." More...

Benediction Added To Mystic Festival Line-up

Benediction are - along with Bolt Thrower - pioneers and masters of classic British death metal. From their 1990 debut "Subconscious Terror" to the album "Scriptures" released 30 years later, they have been faithful to the formula they once worked out - it's raw, no fiddling, no embellishments, massive sound, killer riffs, growls from hell. They're performing on Main Stage on Friday, June 3, so it's going to be a great British day - Judas Priest, Saxon, The Raven Age and Benediction. More...

Origin To Release New Album In June

Tech-death masters, Origin, strikes again on June 3 with their new album, "Chaosmos." The long-standing outfit celebrates not only a return to Nuclear Blast (World excluding Europe) and Agonia Records (Europe), but also rings in their 25th year on "Chaosmos." In celebration of the release, the band offers fans the first taste of the album with the single, "Ecophagy." You can hear the track below.

Origin's Paul Ryan comments, "'Chaosmos...' 25 years in the making. I'm personally super excited to present this album to our fanbase and I hope that they are excited to experience it as well! I personally tried to combine elements of every era stylistically of each album in this release and with the continuation of the same lineup for the last few albums I hope our fan base connects to the music that we have created! Over the years, so many bands have used and imitated our musical approach but the most important elements of Origin's music are songwriting, composition, and structure dynamics, not just technicality and flare - and that can never be replicated. Thank you for taking the time to listen to our newest album to date.... 'Chaosmos.'"

Origin re-tapped Kansas City-based studio guru Rob Rebeck to engineer, produce and mix "Chaosmos." The production team holed up in GFM Recording Studios in Blue Springs, Missouri, and Chapter 2 Recording in Lenexa, Kansas, over 14 days. Robeck worked the mix over four days, while Colin Maarten at Menegroth, The Thousand Caves in Queens, New York, mastered "Chaosmos" in two. The cover artwork was created by Santiago Jaramillo, Triple Seis Design. More...

Harvested Releases New Music Video

Canada’s Harvested is a fresh new death metal band from Ottawa, ON in the vein of Suffocation, Dying Fetus, and Deicide. Also giving nods to slam, brutal, and technical death metal, they intend to induce nostalgia that came from the late 90’s/Early 2000s with a hint of a modern touch. Eager to share their sound with the world, they have a self-titled debut coming out this year, the first single of which is "Apathetic."

Each of the five tracks on the EP revolves around mental illness and is heavily inspired by horror and thriller movies/shows. The single "Apathetic" is about narcissism and lacking empathy in a collective society. The band explains it musically:

"We found 'Apathetic' to be one of our more brutal tracks, the length of time was very appropriate for a music video. We shot our video in an abandoned complex in a small town in Ontario. The lyrics can be interpreted controversially however all the lyrics and music were written in 2019. Starts off abruptly, leading to a very double bass-heavy riff. which then transitions into the main part of the song, building up to the main riff and keeping the energy consistent."

Harvested doesn't look to follow any formulas, their approach is one that magnifies the death metal edge with modern productions. Noting that they are influenced by heavyweights in the genre, they add their own personal touch and are confident they will not be pigeonholed into a certain niche. More...

Venus Principle Posts New Single Online

Venus Principle has released the beautifully sorrow-laden new track "Shut It Down" as the second single taken from the dark psychedelic rockers' debut full-length "Stand in Your Light", which has been scheduled for release on May 27. The obviously pandemic inspired song "Shut It Down" again features a stunning duet between between Daisy Chapman and Daniel Änghede, and is now available to hear below.

The band comments: "We wrote 'Shut It Down' while most of Europe was caught in the lockdown of spring 2020", explains singer and pianist Daisy Chapman. "Whilst the subject matter of a virus creeping across all the continents may already feel outdated by now, both Daniel and I were isolated in Sweden and the United Kingdom while we were penning lyrics and creating chords. At the time it felt like a post-apocalyptic nightmare. This song came together through another cross-country exchange and it embodies frustration and loneliness through soaring harmony, unrepenting guitars, and lyrics." More...

Alestorm Shares "Magellan's Expedition" Video

It’s time to put on your pirate hat and inflate your rubber ducks, because the world-famous Pirate Metal Drinking Crew, Alestorm, have just set sail on a new voyage with their seventh studio album, "Seventh Rum of a Seventh Rum," set for release on June 24, 2022 via Napalm Records. Pre-orders start now!

Alongside its pre-order kickoff, Alestorm have released the charging first single from the new album, "Magellan’s Expedition" – an epic quest telling the tale of Ferdinand Magellan's historical circumnavigation of the earth in 1522. The official video was filmed on location in a castle, features tons of pyro, and of course, a huge yellow laser-eyed rubber duck fighting a young maiden warrior, transforming her into a real, beautiful duck! Featuring majestic orchestral backing, whirling folky violins and huge Latin choirs, this song is classic Alestorm like you haven’t heard in years – a real throwback to the early days of "Captain Morgan’s Revenge!"

The band spent two years during the lockdown going insane and frantically dredging up the craziest pirate metal anthems from their treasure chest of ideas, and have created the most epic and serious (yes, serious) sounding Alestorm album you’ve ever heard. From the symphonic choir-powered "Magellan’s Expedition" to the rousing anthem "Under Blackened Banners" featuring intense technical riffing and exquisite solo duels, Seventh Rum of a Seventh Rum is a real throwback to the early days of Captain Morgan’s Revenge. But fans of the modern Alestorm sound need not worry either – there’s plenty of party mood in the aptly-named future hit song "P.A.R.T.Y.," and the high speed, insane folk metal banger "Cannonball" has the most ridiculous and offensive lyrics you’ve ever heard in a pirate metal song (making “Fucked With an Anchor” sound tame).

Tracklisting:

1. Magellan's Expedition
2. The Battle of Cape Fear River
3. Cannonball
4. P.A.R.T.Y.
5. Under Blackened Banners
6. Magyarország
7. Seventh Rum of a Seventh Rum
8. Bite the Hook Hand that Feeds
9. Return to Tortuga
10. Come to Brazil
11. Wooden Leg (Part III) More...
