The Music Cartel Sign Ufomammut

The Music Cartel has signed Italian industrial-psychedelic-doomster Ufomammut, who the label founder said is "like a cross of Godlfesh meets Pink Floyd meets Black Sabbath." The band plans to record their full-length debut album in October or November for a winter 2002 release.

Anti-American Sentiment in Brazil

Disgusting as it is, there's a must-read piece on Digital Metal from Derek Sherinian of Dream Theater about the band's performance in Porte Allegre, Brazil.

Midway through the set, Yngwie finished his guitar solo spot with the "Star Spangled Banner." The crowd of about 1500 people started immediately booing very loudly, and throwing shit on stage.

The crowd started chanting, " O S A M A !!, O S A M A !!!"

Filter Introduces Dualesc

The Sabians Join The Cartel

The Sabians, featuring ex-members of cult doom outfit Sleep, have signed to The Music Cartel and will be entering Tiny Telephone Studio with producer Alex Newport (At The Drive-In, The Melvins) to record their debut full-length.

The Sabians formed in 1999 when former Sleep members Justin Marler and Chris Hakius came together to create "powerful, pensive sounds." The band is currently a quartet with influences ranging from Johnny Cash to Ozzy to Byzantine chant.

The Sabians' debut album, Beauty for Ashes is expected in early 2002 on The Music Cartel.

Electric Wizard Take Their Time

English doomsters Electric Wizard are currently at New Forest Studios working on material for the follow-up to Dopethrone, where the band is reportedly "camping out and being at one with nature." According to The Music Cartel, Electic Wizard are recording in a "very organic manner; there is no time frame or restriction as to when they will be finished, they will finish when they are satisfied."

As a result of the conditions above, Electic Wizard fans could be waiting for a long time for new music, but we'll have more news as it happens.

Dimmu Borgir Goes Live

Dimmu Borgir are planning to release a live limited shaped CD. The CD will have 5 live songs recorded in Stuttgart on the Puritanical tour. The recording was mixed by Peter Tagtgren in Abyss studio, there is not done anything with the sound so it will sound unpolished and like a kick in the face. The CD will only be available at mailorder from Nuclear Blast and the CD expected to be released in December 2001 / January 2002.

Kittie Ships Gold

Kittie are expected to ship 500,000 copies of their upcoming new album "Oracle" to stores during its first week of release on November 13th, instantly certifying it gold in the U.S.. At present, the band are in pre-production on the video for their current single "What I Always Wanted" and are expected to shoot it shortly. For now, their official website www.kittie.net has been overhauled with a new design and features new video clips, pictures and more.

Apex Wants You

Diesel Machine Plays 'Guitar Day LA'

Diesel Machine has been tapped to play Guitar Day L.A. on Saturday, October 6 at Musician’s Institute in Hollywood.

Guitar Day L.A. is a day of artist performances, seminars with the editors of Guitar Player magazine, manufacturers’ exhibits, and gear giveaways. Other artists slated to play are Marty Friedman (formerly of Megadeth), Steve Lukather (Toto), and Larry Coryell (John McLaughlin, Miles Davis).
