Lombardo: "There Will Be a Slayer Record"

Speaking from his California studio (completing the drums for five tracks on the forthcoming Apocalyptica record!), “current” Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo has revealed Exclusively to BW&BK that he will be part of the next Slayer record.

There is going to be a (Slayer) record. There will be a record ... if they come up with music. I’m hoping they can come up with some music as soon as possible.”

But Slayer fans are accustomed to a slow work ethic when it comes to studio material. “I’m hoping that doesn’t happen this time,” Lombardo adds optimistically. “You never know, if they take a year or two years, will I still be interested? You never know. I don’t know what is going to happen in that time frame. I’m hoping that they grasp the moment and run with it. You know, let’s do it. Get on the ball. What are they doing now? I know I’ve a couple of records to put out within the next 6 months (new Fantomas plus an all-out drum solo record on Mike Patton’s label). If there’s like three guys sitting, writing, I hope they can come up with something.”

So Lombardo says that “the ball” is in Jeff (Hanneman - guitar), Kerry (king - guitar) and Tom’s (vocals/bass) court. More...

The Project Hate Part with Vocalist

Sweden's The Project Hate, featuring Jörgen Sandström of Entombed/Grave fame on lead vocals, have parted ways with singer Mia Ståhl due to a "lack of commitment," according to a posting on the band's official web site. "If you wanna play with us, you have to burn for what we do, Mia doesn't do that," continues the message. "There are no hard feelings between us and this is for the best as far as TPH goes. This also means that we are now looking into a suitable replacement. If you know anyone or if you think you can answer to the standards we have, don't hesitate to e-mail us or do it thru regular mail with a sample of something you have done in the past, or now. We'll carefully go thru all submissions to find what we are looking for. Your voice doesn't have to resemble Mia's, we want someone with a personal style, and more important, someone who's willing to sacrifice their soul to be a part of our domination."

Type O to Skip Annual Halloween Gigs

Type O Negaitve will enter Systems II Studios in Brooklyn, New York at the end of the month to commence recording the long-awaited follow-up to 1999's World Coming Down CD. As a result, the band will not be doing their traditional shows to celebrate Halloween and will instead focus all their attention on completing the as-yet-untitled album for a tentative February release through Roadrunner Records.

"As most of you know, we usually do some shows around Halloween regardless of what the current status of the band," drummer Johnny Kelly wrote on the band's official web site. "[Frontman] Peter [Steele] actually enjoys touring that time of the year. It's the only time that he can go outdoors unnoticed. This year will be the first year in many that we aren't going to be doing any shows. It's kind a of a 'good thing, bad thing'.

"The bad is that we aren't going to be doing our traditional shows to celebrate Halloween which has always been a great time for the band and the fans. The good is that we can't do the shows this year because we are going to be in Systems II recording the new CD. The band is currently in rehearsals so that the recording will go smoother. If we were to do the shows, it would further push back the release of the new cd. We're hoping for an early 2003 release. If things go according to plan we should see the new CD in stores sometime Feb. So that's the bottom line. No shows because we will be recording."

Peaceville Signs Charger

Peaceville Records have welcomed their third new signing for 2002 by welcoming Stoke's Charger to the roster.
Described as "down-tuned, fuzzed-up, megatronic slabs of distorted noize," Charger are currently holed up at Mighty Atom Studios in Swansea, Wales with legendary producer Billy Anderson (Clutch, Brutal Truth, Neurosis), where the band are recording the as-yet-untitled follow-up to 2000's The Foul Year Of Our Lord.

Explained Charger's previous label Undergroove Recordings: "Charger are off to a great new home, and Peaceville are a label based on the same hardcore punk ethics, so they'll feel right at home! Onwards and upwards, let the foulness continue! We're chuffed as fuck!" More...
