Dave Lombardo has assured metal fans there will be a new Slayer records
Speaking from his California studio (completing the drums for five tracks on the forthcoming Apocalyptica record!), “current” Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo has revealed Exclusively to BW&BK that he will be part of the next Slayer record.
“There is going to be a (Slayer) record. There will be a record ... if they come up with music. I’m hoping they can come up with some music as soon as possible.”
But Slayer fans are accustomed to a slow work ethic when it comes to studio material. “I’m hoping that doesn’t happen this time,” Lombardo adds optimistically. “You never know, if they take a year or two years, will I still be interested? You never know. I don’t know what is going to happen in that time frame. I’m hoping that they grasp the moment and run with it. You know, let’s do it. Get on the ball. What are they doing now? I know I’ve a couple of records to put out within the next 6 months (new Fantomas plus an all-out drum solo record on Mike Patton’s label). If there’s like three guys sitting, writing, I hope they can come up with something.”
So Lombardo says that “the ball” is in Jeff (Hanneman - guitar), Kerry (king - guitar) and Tom’s (vocals/bass) court.
And there are “No deadlines,” he says. “I just told Jeff, get home, wait a week and clean up your garage. Get your studio set up. I kinda got him motivated a little. He was definitely motivated when I left him at the airport. I really didn’t talk to Kerry much about it. I had to question a couple of times that he wanted me to do the record. Tom was in on it. So, two-thirds is a plus and with Kerry, I feel he is a plus too.”
Although there continues to be rumors about a forthcoming boxset (Soundtracks Of The Apocalypse), Lombardo says that the band are “Are too busy working on their DVD, War At The Warfield (filmed at the Warfield in San Francisco, CA).”
As for his allegiance to Slayer, Lombardo assures that “I will never lose my independence. In other words, I will always be freelance. It’s always an open door.”
