Guitar World Pays Tribute to Chuck Schuldiner
The April 2007 issue of Guitar World will feature a lengthy article about the life and music of Chuck Schuldiner, as well as transcriptions and videos of Death songs. The feature story is written by GW executive editor Christopher Scapelliti, who interviewed some of those who were closest to Chuck and knew him best, including his mother, Jane Schuldiner, and Death/Control Denied drummer Richard Christy, who was Chuck’s closest friend.
The feature covers Chuck’s life and music from its happy beginning to its untimely end. Jane talks about Chuck’s childhood and gives a revealing look at his difficulty overcoming the death of his brother Frank. (“He never really came to terms with it. He always missed Frank.”) Metal writer and former Combat Records publicist Don Kaye tells the previously untold story about the label signing Death to their first record contract. (“Steve Sinclair said to me, ‘Somewhere in the credits, I’m gonna put, “This record is Don Kaye’s folly.” ’ ”) And both Jane and Richard reveal Chuck’s struggles to complete the second Control Denied album during the last months of his life. (“He drove himself unmercifully that last year,” says Jane. “We worried so much about him and begged him to rest.”) The article is generously illustrated with previously unpublishe d private photos of Chuck that were kindly provided by Jane.
The April 2007 issue will also feature a complete guitar and bass transcription of the Death song “Pull the Plug.” In addition, the included CD-ROM (newsstand only) will include the guitar and bass transcription for the Death track “The Philosopher” as well as live videos for both songs taken from the 2001 Death DVD Live in L.A. (Death & Raw).
The April 2007 Guitar World will also feature tributes to other fallen guitar heroes, including Dimebag Darrell, Randy Rhoades, Stevie Ray Vaughan and former Allman Brothers guitarist Duane Allman. The issue goes on sale at newsstands everywhere February 13, 2007.
Alabama Thunderpussy Set To Shoot Video
ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY will begin filming the first video from their forthcoming new record Open Fire this past weekend. The video, for the track "Words of the Dying Man", will be shot in their hometown of Richmond, VA with local creative collective Day By Day (LAMB OF GOD, MUNICIPAL WASTE). The filming begins today and will last throughout the weekend in a “houseparty” setting. ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY drummer Bryan Cox says of the video shoot: “It’ll be nothing too fancy or cerebral because, well, that's not what we do. The goal for this thing is have something entertaining and fun to watch. If any of you want to join us and participate, be at 800 North 22nd street at noon on Saturday (tomorrow). We'll have a keg.”
ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY has also posted another preview track, “None Shall Return”, from Open Fire via the band’s official MySpace page and PureVolume page.
Open Fire is set for a March 6th North American release date (March 12th internationally) and will be the first ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY record to feature new vocalist Kyle Thomas (ex- EXHORDER / FLOODGATE).

Immolation Reveal New Album's Track Listing
Death metal stalwarts IMMOLATION have wrapped up the recording process for their new full-length album, Shadows In The Light, which is set for an April release via Century Media. The effort was recorded at Millbrook Sound Studios with producer Paul Orofino. Shadows In The Light features the following tracks:
'Hate's Plague', 'Passion Kill', 'World Agony', 'Tarnished', 'The Weight Of Devotion', 'Breathing The Dark',
'Deliverer Of Evil', 'Shadows In The Light', 'Lying With Demons', 'Whispering Death'.
Robert Vigna (guitars) further describes the new album: "It's aggressive, emotional and haunting. The disc delivers all of Immolation's attributes, as it's catchy as hell, very direct and to the point. The album devastates on all levels, from blasting madness and militant charges to sorrow-filled doom and depression. It is a very complete record with soulful solos, thunderous raging drums and vocals that lash right out at you!"
Harakiri Part Ways With Vocalist
HARAKIRI has parted ways with vocalist, Matt Reese. Guitarist Chris Morrison has issued the following statement:
"It's a sad day for Harakiri... founding member/vocalist, Matt Reese, has left Harakiri after 10 years. He's left on good terms, and we're all still great friends and always will be. We're really bummed though, because not only is he a dear friend, Matt is one of death metal's best lyricists and vocalists. He never took an easy approach to writing by telling tales of gore or other things commonly associated with death metal. His vocal delivery and lyrical wit was perfect for what Harakiri is all about. We are honored that he recorded two albums, a CDep, and a few demos with us. As far as Harakiri's future... the four of us will to continue on. We have the music for approximately 8 songs completed for our new full-length album. We plan to finish writing, secure a new vocalist, record the album, and get back to playing a few shows. So, we are looking for a new vocalist/lyricist... we are not your typical death metal band; therefore, we are not looking for a typical death metal vocalist/lyricist. Candidates must be at least 21, preferably at least a bit older. One must be able to show us some samples of lyrical writing style. One must be able to be in Indianapolis for practice up to a few times a month. Other things we're looking for can be discussed later. If interested, email us here."

Hate Eternal Sign to Metal Blade Records
Metal Blade Records has announced the signing of death metal legends HATE ETERNAL to worldwide deal. The band is currently writing material for the follow-up to 2005's "I, Monarch", which is expected to be recorded at HATE ETERNAL mainman Erik Rutan's own Mana Recording Studios in June/July 2007.
Formed in 1997, HATE ETERNAL's goal has always been to challenge musical limitations and create new boundaries with no compromise; to obtain goals aimed at by many yet reached by only a select few; to create music that not only defies all clichés, but that creates a true sense of power, dissonance and consonance, heaviness and speed, melody and brutality, simply put horrific hymns. Guitarist Erik Rutan has crafted an impressive career by attaining that goal consistently for well over a decade with his legendary work in RIPPING CORPSE and MORBID ANGEL. Not to mention his other career as engineer/ producer for bands such as CANNIBAL CORPSE, SOILENT GREEN, SIX FEET UNDER, CELLADOR, VITAL REMAINS, PREMONITIONS OF WAR, GOATWHORE and INTO THE MOAT, just to name a few.
