"Satanic Black Metal Music" Used In Guantanamo Bay

Washington Post reports that FBI agents witnessed possible mistreatment of the Koran at the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, including at least one instance in which an interrogator bragged to an FBI agent that he had forced a prisoner to listen to "Satanic black metal music for hours," then dressed as a Catholic priest before "baptizing" him, according to bureau documents released yesterday (Tuesday, Jan. 2).

One agent reported being told that while questioning male captives, female interrogators would sometimes wet their hands and touch detainees' faces in order to interrupt their prayers. Such actions would make some Muslims consider themselves unclean and unable to continue praying.

Lt. Cmdr. Joe Carpenter, a Pentagon spokesman, said in a statement last night that "the issues and facts raised" in the documents "are not new" and that 12 reviews have showed there were no Defense Department policies that condoned abuse.

Suhrim Set To Record Third Album

Belgian groove death metal specialists SUHRIM are currently making the final arrangements and last-minute preparations for their upcoming 2 week recording sessions at the acclaimed Hertz Studios in Bialystok, Poland (Vader, Decapitated, Dead Infection). The sessions are scheduled for February 5th until February 18th 2007. The band is looking forward to working with producer duo Wojtek and Slawek Wieslawscy on "Happy Hour"- their third full length - and second release for the resurrected Shiver Records. "We are very thrilled about the new songs. They are more brutal, faster and harder than anything Suhrim has ever recorded," says vocalist/bassist Johan Antonissen "We will try to make the new album sound as good and professional as possible, but that will be no problem, I think. Just take a listen to the recordings done at the famous Hertz Studio. It's about time we claim what belong to us... a spot on the world's metal map."

Following the release of the new record, SUHRIM will head out for a number of local dates in support of "Happy Hour". Interested parties can book the band at: johan.suhrim@telenet.be (local dates) or info@blackboxbookings.com . We haven't performed in your area/country yet? Contact our label, Shiver Records/RottenToTheCore and request shows in your country at info@RottenToTheCore.be . All shows are bound to induce serious neck damage - be sure to check us out when we play in a town near you.

The recording sessions for SUHRIM's new album "Happy Hour" are set for February 5th until February 18th 2007, with an intended release date in spring/summer 2007 through Shiver Records. Cover art & lay-out is done by Swedish artist Carlos Holmberg (Soilwork, Scarve, Terror 2000, ...) - check out his work at www.nailstream.com . Further details as to tracklist, artwork, teaser mp3s and such will be published upon approaching of the intended release date.

Interview

Interview with Jim Neal of Lathe

Fort Wayne, Indiana's LATHE is a hard-hitting metal band that cites Slayer, Slipknot, Pantera and Mudvayne as their main influences. They are still working hard at getting the word out on their self-released debut full-length effort 'Now Or Never' from 2005 and are looking to start playing hotter venues in the east here in 2007. I got some recent Q&A in with their drummer, Jim Neal, to find out more about this upcoming act and their highly aggressive and ready to take over the world attitude that they possess. More...

Watch Trashlight Vision Perform Ramones Cover

There is a new live video of Trashlight Vision performing a cover of the classic Ramones song “My Brain is hanging Upside Down (Bonzo Goes To Bitburg)” available for viewing on the UVTV (Underground Video Television) Website. The footage was taken at The Continental in New York City.

The song was originally written & recorded by The Ramones as a protest against Ronald Reagan’s visit to a soldier’s cemetery in Bitburg West Germany in 1985. The visit had been criticized in Europe as well as in the United States because 49 members of the SS the Nazi paramilitary organization that helped run the extermination camps during World War II were buried there.

Trashlight Vision is fronted by singer and guitarist Acey Slade, formerly of Dope, and who is a guitarist for the horror/punk/glam band Murderdolls.
