Nerlich Ready "Defabricated Process" For Release

Finland's NERLICH has issued the following press release:

"Our debut album, Defabricated Process is going to be released on January 20th through Old School Metal Records (www.osmrecords.net), in case you didn't know that yet. It will be out pretty soon, remember to buy it or ask your mommy to buy it.

We are arranging our lineup at the moment so we could start to play gigs again. In Nerlich fashion, the lineup is going to be different again (surprise, surprise). It seems that getting a stable lineup together is an impossible task for us, hopefully this year we'll succeed in that. We have at least one new member, but the complete lineup is not sure yet. We'll let you know about it later.

Also, we have just recorded a four track EP. It includes two brand new songs and a re-make of 'Altered Form Of Life' and one old song that has not been recorded before... We recorded the EP with a different drummer called Viktor Gullichsen. The EP is not completely finished yet, we're going to add an intro to it first and edit it some more. It's going to be released probably sometime around summer. More info on that later.

For now we're going to concentrate on getting the lineup together, composing new songs and getting the EP finished."

Herman Li Discusses Dragonforce's Success

Sven Hunter of Play Louder recently talked with Dragonforce guitarist Herman Li.

Herman Li, is decidedly apathetic about mainstream success when we interrupt his afternoon guitar practice:

"I actually don't care about it. We make the album the way we want to hear it; we don't listen to anybody else. We think we know what's cool. Some people would disagree, probably, but we've been listening to metal for a long time and we want to make albums that nobody's made, and that we want to hear; albums that our heroes never made: a combination of everything. We listen to so many styles of metal, and take the best out of each style. Whatever happens after that, that's just how it's going to be. If you like it that's cool, if you don't that's cool. I've got friends who don't listen to metal; they still hang out with me! That's how it is. It's not about people worshipping us or shit like that. If people don't like our music it doesn't mean anything. It's only one thing about life."

Surely you must be pleased with the massive critical acclaim though?

"We won four awards in Guitar World magazine America; apparently that's a big deal. That's cool. Well, the way we see it, we don't get too excited about these things. We don't expect anything more. If you stick with the idea... we keep doing what we're doing, the stuff we like - all these long guitar solos, seven minute, eight minute songs... we're not supposed to be big at all. We're not supposed to be on radio or TV. If you accept that fact, then you can be happy in a band."

That's all very well, but with only metal titans like Slayer, Mastodon and Iron Maiden beating you to the top spot in Metal Hammer's top 50 albums of the year, you're in danger of becoming pretty huge.

"Hardly anyone has actually heard of us."

Okay, for the benefit of those who haven't, what exactly is Dragonforce?

"If you take the origins of what we're doing, it's a thing called power metal, but we've taken that sound and it's an evolution of the style. If you mix certain styles, people like it. We mix death metal, power metal, thrash metal... everything. The evolution started on the second album, I think that people just didn't hear that album."

Deicide Kick Off Tour Without Glen Benton

Floridian death metallers DEICIDE kicked off their European tour on Friday, January 5 without frontman Glen Benton, who reportedly was forced to stay home to take care of pressing legal matters (although this has not been officially confirmed). Replacing Benton for the first four dates of DEICIDE's tour is SEVERE TORTURE drummer Seth van Loo, who previously took care of vocals in CENTURIAN and NOX.

Seth van Loo apparently learned 17 songs in one afternoon and did "a great job" at the first show of the trek, which took place in Eindhoven, Holland. [NOTE: Seth van Loo is only singing in the band; he is NOT playing bass. There is currently no replacement bassist in the group.]

These are the remaining dates of DEICIDE's European tour that will feature Seth van Loo on vocals:

Jan. 07 - GER - Saarbrucken @ Roxy
Jan. 08 - HOL - Rotterdam @ Baroeg

Jason Bittner Resurrects Death Metal Project

SHADOWS FALL drummer Jason Bittner has resurrected his previous band BURNING HUMAN and is currently rehearsing and writing for a studio session in late February. The group's debut album is not expected to surface until late summer at the earliest.

In the latter half of the 1990s, BURNING HUMAN was a deathcore/death metal four-piece from the "Capital District" region of New York (Albany, Troy, Schenectady). Ignited in 1995, BURNING HUMAN's lineup consisted of Bittner (currently in SHADOWS FALL, ex-STIGMATA, CRISIS) on drums, Jason Sunkes (currently in DEAD RABBITS, ex-STIGMATA) on guitar, Jay VanDervoort on bass, and Jonah Radaelli on vocals.

Shortly after forming, BURNING HUMAN recorded and released a seven-song demo tape titled "Death is Mercy". These songs were later released on a compilation CD titled "We the People: A Compilation of Upstate NY's Hardest" with three other bands from the Troy/Albany, New York area (WAR-TIME MANNER, POLITICS OF CONTRABAND, DYING BREED). Although the band never issued a full-length album, a number of additional tracks were recorded and released on various compilation CDs, including a song called "Hazards to Humans" on a sampler titled "Capitol Punishment" in 1997. In addition, two songs — "As Good As Dead" and "Tormented Mind" — were featured on the "Frozen Dawn IV" compilation CD in 1998, and "Self-Inflicted Crucifixion" appeared on "United We Stand, Divided We Fall" in 1998.

Hexerei Signs To Screaming Ferret Wreckords

Hexerei, the New Hampshire based metal outfit has signed a two album deal with Screaming Ferret Wreckords, the indie label based out of Southern New Hampshire best known for acts like Nuclear Assault and Meliah Rage, with full US distribution thru its label partners Fontana/Universal.

Hexerei gained notoriety in the New England area by performing in support of their debut album "27" which was recorded at the legendary New Alliance Studio in Boston, Massachusetts. New Alliance Studio studio continues to be hallowed ground for hard and heavy music for 15 years and has spawned benchmark records from Converge, Tree, Scissorfight and Godsmack.

Since the album's release, the band has performed with Saliva, Alice in Chains, Shinedown, Drowning Pool, Lacuna Coil, Sevendust and was hand picked by WAAF FM 107.3, the influential commercial rock station in Boston, to open this past year's Family Values Tour with Korn, The Deftones, Stone Sour, and Flyleaf.

Along with their nonstop shows around the New England area, the band gained a national fanbase in the summer of 2006 when Hexerei toured with Suicide City, the band featuring Billy Graziadei of Biohazard and Jennifer Arroyo of Kittie.

Hexerei's new studio album titled "Pay Your Dues" is tentatively scheduled for full US release in April 2007, which will be followed by a year of touring in support of the album.

Travis Pfenning, lead vocalist, states, "we are very excited about this new album, and what the next year has in store for us. The band continues to work very hard to put all the pieces of the puzzle in place and now, that we have our management team solidified and a label that is going to support us properly, the sky is the limit."

Vintersorg Nearly Finished Recording New Album

VINTERSORG, the Swedish band led by BORKNAGAR frontman Andreas Hedlund (a.k.a. Vintersorg), has issued the following update:

"The new album, 'Solens Rötter' [Swedish for 'The Sun's Roots'], is nearly recorded, [only] some bass is missing. Still we've started to mix the album at Ballerina Audio with the engineer Nils Johansson. It has taken some time to completed this album but it hasn't been about not having ideas; instead it has taken us some time to understand what kind of album we wanted to do and how to reach that vision. A more ethnic approach is obvious but still with a fresh vibe as we see it ourselves, hymn-like passages mixed with soothing parts, acoustic guitars are present as well as harsh black metal elements; all filtered through our Nordic minds. But don't expect 'The Focusing Blur' part II; new ideas are very present but the songs feels very fluent and bear the atmosphere of nature in all its forms. Some songtitles for the album: 'Kosmosaik', 'Naturens Mystär', 'Vad Aftonvindens Andning Viskar', 'Spirar och Gror', [and] 'Strålar'."

VINTERSORG recently extended its worldwide recording contract with Napalm Records "to include multiple releases," according to a posting on the Napalm web site.

The follow-up to 2004's "The Focusing Blur", "Solens Rötter" will not feature contributions from Steve DiGiorgio (SADUS, SEBASTIAN BACH, TESTAMENT, DEATH) and drummer Asgeir Mickelson (SPIRAL ARCHITECT, BORKNAGAR), both of whom performed on the band's last two releases.

Vintersorg's collaboration with BORKNAGAR's Oystein G. Brun (guitars and programming), dubbed CRONIAN, released its debut album, "Terra", in the U.S. in April 2006 via Century Media Records. The CD, which was issued in Europe on March 27, was mastered by Dan Swanö at Unisound.

Arsis Signs To Nuclear Blast Records

Checking in from their current tour with God Forbid, Mnemic, and Goatwhore, founding member/guitarist/lead vocalist and former Berklee College of Music student James Malone has this to say about the newly-inked worldwide collaboration with Nuclear Blast Records:

"Since the conception of ARSIS, I hoped to see the band as a part of the Nuclear Blast roster. Four years later, this is now a reality. I expect great things this coming year; the band is now a four piece, solid tours are on the way, and we have a fantastic label behind us 100%. I am more excited now about the potential of the band than I have ever been."

All of the ARSIS recordings (which include two demos, one EP, and two full-length albums) have won the band many rabid fans among the metal underground, the metal press, and metal musicians themselves. Their 2004 debut, A Celebration Of Guilt, was praised to hell and back by Revolver Magazine as "the best in the genre since At The Gates' legendary swan song [Slaughter Of The Soul]."

Given their current momentum in support of their latest album, United In Regret, and with, as Malone states, "our most brutal release coming in 2008," ARSIS are well on their way to making their discography absolutely essential for any fan with an extreme music library.
