Control Denied's Second Album To Be Released In 07

Beth Schuldiner, sister of late DEATH/CONTROL DENIED mastermind Chuck Schuldiner, has issued a response to statements and accusations made by Guido Heijnens, owner of the now-defunct Dutch record label Hammerheart Records (which was "resurrected" for a short while under the Karmageddon Media banner) regarding the fate of the unreleased second CONTROL DENIED album and Hammerheart/Karmageddon Media's reasons for releasing Chuck's demo recordings and unfinished studio sessions without the permission or consent of the Schuldiner family.

In a January 2, 2007 e-mail to BLABBERMOUTH.NET, Heijnens addressed some of the comments regarding the above matter made by former CONTROL DENIED singer Tim Aymar in the current issue of of the Greek edition of Rock Hard magazine (which features a lengthy tribute article to Chuck). Guido said, in part, "We contracted Chuck, he received 70,000 euros (this is no bullshit amount of cash), he started recording [the second CONTROL DENIED album], he got ill again and sadly enough passed away. I called Morrissound Studio and [studio co-owner] Jim Morris told me Bethann Schuldiner (Chuck's sister) took the master tapes a few days after Chuck passed away. Chuck's family did not want to hand us the tapes, tried to sell them (again) to another label, who were clever enough to check this with us... So the Schuldiners decided to break all contact off.

"That's it, basically. We never got back our money (nothing, not even any remaining money), nor did we get master tapes. Not an apology, nothing!!! More...

Reunited Malice Scheduling Euro Fests, US Tour

Reunited Los Angeles heavy metal legends MALICE have signed with Chuck Bernal at Artists Worldwide for booking and will soon be confirming European festival appearances and U.S. tour dates for June-July 2007.

MALICE - whose current lineup includes the three original guitar slingers (Mick Zane, Jay Reynolds and Mark Behn) alongside Pete Holmes (BLACK 'N BLUE, MICHAEL SCHENKER) on drums and newfound vocal sensation Brian Allen - is currently in negotiations with several labels and a record deal appears to be "imminent." Reynolds previously stated that the new MALICE material would be "heavier than ever."

New MALICE vocalist Brian Allen is doing double duty as frontman for LAST EMPIRE, which is currently putting the finishing touches on its new CD. Meanwhile, drummer Pete Homes has been moonlighting with Mandy Lion and WWIII. Jay Reynolds has just embarked on the U.S. METAL CHURCH tour, while Mick Zane and Mark Behn are in Los Angeles writing and demoing the new MALICE album.

MALICE's two Atlantic releases - "In the Beginning" (1985) and "License to Kill" (1986) - are available Stateside on WEA label Wounded Bird and have continued to sell over the years. The band also plans to release several live DVDs from the '80s and possibly a retrospective of past demos and unreleased songs.

TTEOTD Completing Songs For New Album

South Carolina's THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD are currently completing new songs for the band's second full-length, the follow-up to 2005's Bloodlust. The new album, already dubbed 'Malice,' will again feature artwork from Paul Romano (Mastodon, The Red Chord), while this time around, the band will enlist Erik Rutan (Hate Eternal, ex-Morbid Angel) for production, engineering and mixing with Alan Douches (Unearth, Shadows Fall) of West West Side Music mastering the effort. The band will head down to Mana Studios in St. Petersburg, Fla. February 16 and wrap up recording March 15.

"The new material is coming along nicely," guitarist Justin Longshore said. "The songs are a lot more mature and the music is much faster, aggressive, and way more pissed off. I think fans are going to really love it. We are really pumped to work with Erik Rutan on Malice. We've never worked with a producer and I don't think we could have chosen anyone better; we really admire the work he's done in Morbid Angel and Hate Eternal and also the engineering efforts he's produced for Cannibal Corpse, Hate Eternal, and Premonitions of War, among others. After we hit the studio, we plan to dominate the world once again and tour throughout the year. We will be playing a lot of new places including Europe. 2007 is going to be an exciting year for TTEOTD."

Since the release of Bloodlust, THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD has stayed on the road for much of 2005 and 2006 including landing a slot on last year's Sounds of The Underground, supporting Unearth's headlining tour, and fronting the band's own highly-successful headlining tour with From A Second Story Window and labelmates THE ACACIA STRAIN and LIGHT THIS CITY among others. More details on the release of 'Malice' including studio updates will be available shortly.

Byzantine Reveal New Album Details

West Virginia's forward thinking thrash band BYZANTINE has set Oblivion Beckons as the title of their third full-length, tentatively due out in July through Prosthetic Records. Gorefest Well Into Writing Sessions

Gorefest posted the following on their official website:

First of all, a good new year to you all. Let's hope this one brings a lot of great things. It's been a while since we posted something positive on this page so here is for some good news.

We're well into the writing sessions of our new album due to be released mid 2007. We just finished the demo tapes with the foundations for 11 new songs. Drum tracks and rhythm guitars have been prerecorded and some vocals as well. Of the 11 songs we're going to choose about 9 songs to be put on the album. So now we're in the stage of making up drum fills, guitar solo's and whatnot, to give it all even more edge. Also vocal lines and lyrics are well on their way. We can honestly say this is going to be a brutal one. The frustration, anger and aggression that has been built up over the past year has really found it's way to the songs. Blasts, speed picking and fast polka's are more common than spare.

The same way we did with La Muerte we're going to record in the Excess studio's in Rotterdam with engineers Hans and Dennis. Tue Madsen will be doing mixing duty and the production will be more of a joint venture with him this time.

We plan to go into the studio for actual recording this march but before that you'll get a few chances to see us live. On February the 3rd we'll play in The Rock in Copenhagen DK and the 23rd we'll play in Simplon in Groningen NL. See for more details about these shows on our tour page. After a short resting period we'll be back with more shows in late April and May. Most likely there will be some festival appearances in June as well.

Cheers and have a good one,
>> Gorefest / Boudewijn

AngelCorpse Working on Most Extreme Album to Date

The reunited ANGELCORPSE is currently hard at work on its new album, entitled "Of Lucifer and Lightning". "John Longstreth [drums] has created some hammering drums for us to work with, and Gene [Palubicki, guitar] and I are hard at work tracking guitars, bass and vocals for the album," says bassist/vocalist Pete Helmkamp. "We promise that 'Of Lucifer and Lightning' will be the most extreme ANGELCORPSE album to date. Of course this sounds cliche and what every band might say after 'reforming' after several years, but we say fuck off to all of that: ANGELCORPSE has never been like those other bands and this album will certainly show that to be true. Beware: Antichrist Vanguards advance!"

"Of Lucifer and Lightning" is scheduled for release later in the year via Osmose Productions.

ANGELCORPSE's last studio album, "The Inexorable", was released in 1999 through Osmose Productions. A CD collection, "Iron Blood and Blasphemy", featuring a number of singles, EP tracks, covers, live recordings, and the "Goats to Azazael" demo, came out in 2001.

Vomitory Complete 'Terrorize Brutalize Sodomize'

Vomitory drummer Tobias Gustafsson checked in with an update:

"We have now finally completed our sixth album, Terrorize Brutalize Sodomize! And I say finally because it has been three long years since our latest album, Primal Massacre, saw the light of day. Terrorize Brutalize Sodomize was recorded, mixed and mastered at Leon Music Studio, Karlstad/Sweden during December together with producer/engineer Rikard Löfgren."

"We're totally satisfied with how it all turned out - the production is top-notch, the songs and our performances are at their best and the variation in the songs are better than ever before. The album has some of the fastest shit we've ever done as well as some of the heaviest. The album contains 40 minutes of death fucking metal, consisting of these songs:

1. Eternal Trail Of Corpses
2. Scavenging The Slaughtered
3. Terrorize Brutalize Sodomize
4. The Burning Black
5. Defiled And Inferior
6. March Into Oblivion
7. Whispers From The Dead
8. Heresy
9. Flesh Passion
10. Cremation Ceremony

"The artwork is being worked on at this moment by Chaos Media and this time it's really something extra! It is by far the sickest you've ever seen on a Vomitory album so far!

Cheers!
-Tobias"

Advance Apocryhal Voice Track Online

An advance track entitled "Lifeless" from APOCRYHAL VOICE's new album "Stilltrapped" has been posted on Candlelight's Myspace.

The press release describes the sound of Stilltrapped: "Thematically this album is dwelling in depression, captivity, and death. Musically it's more diverse extending from actually memorable structures to scary avant-noise experiments, and calmer in a way of expressing a prisoner's suppressed rage in shackles or total living emptiness. All this performed in trademark Apocryphal Voice poly chords and emotional vocals. Or if you insist in having the description to be put in another way... "Stilltrapped" lies somewhere in the wide and hazy area between Burzum and Nick Cave."

TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION was founded by BRUTAL TRUTH's very own drummer/vocalist/performance artist Richard Hoak, and is rounded out by Herzog (total fucking guitar), Joe (total fucking bass) and Pingdum (total fucking fuck you guitar).

According to a press release, TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION has taken grind to a whole new level with an extremely unique album that consists of three parts: Part 1 is a proper grinding, metallic and perversely catchy batch of songs recorded at Super 8 Studios (SLACKS, QUIPS, ZODIAK) and mixed by Dan O'Hare; Part 2 is an acoustic monster all in itself, beautifully recorded by the band in their total fucking house, completely different from anything heard in grind today; Part 3 is enhanced CD content that contains "Live from Hazel's", a legendary live performance recorded in the bowels of Philadelphia.

Knut Parts Ways with Guitarist

Switzerland's Knut has announced the departure of guitarist Jeremy, who is leaving the group to concentrate on his grind project, Mumakil. Here's a statement from the band:

"This marks the end of an 8+ year partnership, and a big letdown considering the atmosphere that prevailed within the band and the amount of enthusiasm towards our latest performances. We can't help thinking that the best knut line-up is history. Touring but also writing a new record is now put in a different light, that's an understatement. What the future holds for Knut after 12 years of incredibly fulfilling activity, and what might be one too many changes in its shape and form, remains to be determined."

These Arms Are Snakes Has Van and Trailer Stolen

These Arms Are Snakes' van and trailer were stolen in Seattle over the weekend. Here's a statement from the group:

"I guess it happens to every band at some point. Our van and trailer were stolen from the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Seattle at some point between the afternoon of Saturday the 13th and the evening of Sunday the 14th. The good news is that none of our equipment was inside of it at the time. The bad news is that we're not insured for theft. So if anyone happens to see a 15-passenger dark gray Ford van with a two-axle trailer attached and some meth-heads cooking up drugs in the back, be sure to let us or the police know. Strangely enough, we were getting ready to take it in for repairs because we couldn't get the damn thing to start. Hopefully whoever solved that problem in the process of stealing it will also fix the leaking radiator."

Ozzy Promises A Classic, Zakk Disses Metallica

Ozzy Osbourne and his guitarist Zakk Wylde spoke with Revolver magazine about Ozzy's new album, which the Black Sabbath frontman promises is "in the same league as 'No More Tears', 'Blizzard of Ozz', and 'Diary'." Meanwhile, Wylde took a stab at Metallica for working with Bob Rock. "We just went in and jammed out the riffs, just like how they made 'Back in Black' and all the Sabbath record," said Wylde. "I don't need Bob Rock there to tell me what to do, like that 'Vagina Monologues' band Metallica. When you know where you're going, you don't need to ask for fu**ing directions! It sounds like classic Ozzy — there's piano ballads, there's an acoustic thing, and then there's the heavy sh**. From the beginning, Oz kept saying to me, 'Zakk, we need another 'No More Tears' — we've gotta piss all over that fu**in' record. This thing's gotta be able to hang with 'Diary of a Madman'!'"

Trivium Address New Tags Placed On Them

Trivium frontman Matt Heafy spoke with Australia's Time Off magazine about being tagged as nothing more than revivalists at best, and plagiarists at worst. "We've always felt that we've done whatever we want," Heafy explained. "We never came up with a bunch of bands, we never came up with a movement, we're not really in a clique of bands. Five years ago people were saying New Wave Of American Heavy Metal, and then a few years ago it was some other bullsh** term. We always just say we're a band that makes music. We're just Trivium."
