"Satanic Black Metal Music" Used To Mistreat Guantanamo Bay Detainees
Washington Post reports that FBI agents witnessed possible mistreatment of the Koran at the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, including at least one instance in which an interrogator bragged to an FBI agent that he had forced a prisoner to listen to "Satanic black metal music for hours," then dressed as a Catholic priest before "baptizing" him, according to bureau documents released yesterday (Tuesday, Jan. 2).
One agent reported being told that while questioning male captives, female interrogators would sometimes wet their hands and touch detainees' faces in order to interrupt their prayers. Such actions would make some Muslims consider themselves unclean and unable to continue praying.
Lt. Cmdr. Joe Carpenter, a Pentagon spokesman, said in a statement last night that "the issues and facts raised" in the documents "are not new" and that 12 reviews have showed there were no Defense Department policies that condoned abuse.

Good God, sometimes I'm embarassed by my country. You know, the United States Constitution (and the Third Geneva Convention for that matter) says that you're not allowed to torture people. And I'm assuming that means, "even if you really, really want to."
As for using black metal, I can understand that it may have caused a culture shock in inmates who may have never encountered black metal before, but like I said before, torture isn't supposed to go on in the first place. The reason torture went on at Guantanamo (or at least this is how I've heard it) is because the whole operation was outsourced by the US Armed Forces to independent parties. Thus, it didn't have to be directly supervised by the US Armed Forces. So there were pretty much no rules they had to follow. I think that's how the story goes. Can anyone confirm that for me? I'm curious.

I don't believe that anyones religion or religious freedom should be taken lightly. However the cynical side of my nature is about to burst forward with laughter.
I do not agree with the quote unquote war on terror. If it was a real and sincere deal we would not have invaded Iraq. Not to mention the fact that the KKK & Neo Nazi's are still allowed to exist in this country(Like I saide War on Terror ? yeah right.)
In any event it's a war & policies aside.Speaking as a private citizen liveing in a potential strike zone.If they feel they must torture terrorist's to get information needed to keep inocent people safe then unfortunatley I'm all for it.These extremist's do not care about the greater good.If they did they would not use suicide bomber's to attack public places that are full of civillians with no military significance what soever.

Didnt the US forces use Metallica as a weapon during desert storm 1??
I'm sure i read that somewhere. Well, that was back when 'tallica were good, Imagine having st anger blasted at you the night before a tank assault, you'd throw down your weapons and beg for mercy.
I just wonder what "satanic black metal" they managed to get their hands on, Burzum, Mayhem, Dissection? Probably Cradle of Filth and HIM. Although that would make me tell them everything i know, cant stand either.
Why is it that metal is seen as a torture device? surely an Iron Maiden *not THE Iron Maiden but the old spanish inquisition one* would be better for making them talk, or a clockwork orange style mindf*ck....
ah well.. Made me laugh to read about it, in the uk they would have been let out and probably given a house as a gesture of apology.
but the backstreet boyz and limp bizkit would have been better than black metal.

Yeah they did use Mettallica in the Gulf War.
Although from what I understand METAL in general(not just Black and Death)are popular in some part's of the middle east.Unfortunatley Iran & Iraq are not on the list of Metal friendly location's and yes it has to do with the local beliefe system's.

I figured it would be something like that.. If i was in charge i'd have gone and gotten a few god aweful bands to do a live set for them.. but i am evil like that.
btw anyone know if the samples used in between songs on Panzer division Marduk is actual battle radio comms from the gulf war? have been told this is true but havent even been able to confirm.

9. writes:
yeah right with st anger blasting they'll probably just kill themselves knowing that if they got captured they'll probably be subjected to it again. and with all the things that happen at that prison i'm surprised that no kind of riot has happened before. but then again that kind of news would be censored to the general public.

@Stephen: No actually you're wrong. Seeing as the prisoners are not in America and are not American citizens, they have no constituional rights. Secondly, they are not P.O.W.'s. The Geneva Convetion only gives rights to P.O.W.'s. They refused to call these people Prisoners of War, and thus, they have no rights, and they can do whatever they want to them. Mr. Bush calls these "Enhanced Interrogation Techniques." On that note, I could care less what they do to these people.

cursed be bush and whoever is with him, these people are the real terrorists and butchers of masses.(terrorist in your english dictionary means someone who causes chaos for achievement of wealth or such selfish desires, how can someone be called a terrorist when he/she has a bomb tied to their body and are going to give their life, what will they do with a bag full of money or with power??, you got to differentiate between minute details otherwise your race will keep making mistakes that will only bring more destruction and insecurity to the fcuking world peace.
if you push some one against then be ready for consequences of a massive magnitude, you say these combatants have no rights, then lets be fair and dont whine about suicide bombing, because if they dont have any human right then they can commit suicide or bomb themselves on any their enemy, their own body is the last weapon avaliable, if usa uses MK-74 White Phosphorus (chemical weapon) and many other unknown substances then they should not complain when they are the victims of a disaster or of slayed american pigs of war, you create enemies for yourself, tommorow when the children of these inmates and other combatants who have no record or trace of their dissapearance grom up they shall be born with hate against usa, you cannot implement your own rules on everybody else, for some will sacrifice everything including their children and family, die themselves but never will accept slavery!

Well by your definition they are wanting to give power to Islam, and their greed would be the heaven full of muslim babes.
Black Metal ist Krieg.

Yeah DarkWinterSun, I was mistaken on that one. The outsourcing I was referring to was actually done by comapnies like Haliburton in Iraq (who, by the way, are reaping hundred million dollar benefis off the destruction of a country). I was mixed up, but you can hardly blame me. Because that's this administration's mentality on everything they do. They see everything in terms of business because for many of them, that's all they know. It's the wrong way to approach that situation.
...And people wonder why there's no good news reported concerning Iraq. That's because all the reporters over there are too busy shouting, "Hey, cover me; I'm going to the ice machine!"
Yup, not relevant to Guantanamo Bay, but it was something I had to get off my chest nonetheless.

I have to wonder which bands they played?
Our country is f***ed and everyone knows it, but so is virtually every other country out there. We need to clean up our act with regards to international relations, but I also support demoralizing or enemies absolutely.....It's a hard call but this sh** goes too far.

18. writes:
Im not so sure Black Metal would be torture to some of these prisoners, wouldnt you think that maybe it would just pump them up and make em fight all the guards, i know that would be the case for me. And to Darkwinter since this is a "War on Terror" these are prisoners of a war, so i think they absolutley have rights under the Geneva convention. How can u call a invasion of Iraq, and Afghanistan NOT A WAR on those indivigual countries, but i can also see your point, since most of these prisoners are from all over the muslim world and are not alligned with one country, but with Islam.

That isn't toture. Bamboo shoots under the fingers nail is. Lets get real here.
There are countries worse off than the US man. Sure things could be better, but if you can think of a better place - why are you here?
@Genocidal Device - What dictionary are you looking at? Mine says not such thing.

I believe (from what I have heard - not being Iranian, nor having lived there, I can't really validate the quality of my knowledge) that the metal scene in Iran is a small, underground and growing scene. It is populated by the youngsters, as eLijah said, and there are few metal bands there that would have been heard of on both sides of the country, let alone in any other. Nevertheless, the metal scene there IS growing, and IS existant.
Again, I'll stress that I cannot validate the quality of that 'knowledge', or 'opinion', or 'guess', or whatever you want to call it - nor can I even validate the source from whence the knowledge comes. It is just the impression that springs to mind, for some reason, that I feel that I have heard, or read somewhere, about the Iranian metal scene.
As for the torture, if it's listening to music, as much as I may disagree with the style of music, or physical pain and suffering, I'll take the music. However, messing with a man's religious beliefs is in no circumstance cool, no matter how foreign that belief may seem to your mind. The people do not deserve the rights of the Geneva Convention because they are Prisoners of War - they deserve them because they are people. On which continent they were given birth to or presently or previously resided is also of no consequence to the matter. They are as human as George W Bush, as human as the American Indian, as human as you and I; and they are called "Human Rights" for a reason.
A War on Terror, you say? War IS terror...

Those b@st@rds deserve what they get. The "tortures" at Guantanimo are nothing compared to what they do to anyone they see as infidels. Even if they DIDN'T kill an"infidel", what are they really doing besides celebrating when one does get killed? Are they part of the problem, or part of the solution? If they're part of the problem, then add them to the body count. If not, help them make their homelands a better place and get rid of the zealots that want nothing else but bloodshed.

I'm with Cynic on this one. Some of the people on this forum need to think before they use the internet to spread hate. I struggle with what term to call these people. They are not retarded, because I believe they understand what they are doing. Therefore, they are stupid. Plain and simple. I'm known to be critical, but at least I'll communicate a message other than "f*** this or f*** that or I'll kill you."
I wish the capabilities of one's internet connection could be directly correlated to one's intelligence. That way, those who have their had up their a$$ would have to find another outlet to vent their unchecked anger with. If only this were the case...

I say we send violent prisoners in this country over to the sandbox. Could you see Charles Manson rallying the troops against these jihadis? Violent street gangs cleaning the streets and actually making them somewhat safe around Baghdad? We could get a couple of serial killers that are still alive and some mob hitmen together for a cleanup squad! Now the American Military doesn't seem so bad, does it , jack@ss?
