TTEOTD Singer Quits and Joins Since The Flood

Through The Eyes Of The Dead frontman, Nate Johnson (Premonitions of War), has apparently left the band and joined Massachusetts hardcore/metal outfit Since The Flood. Johnson, who only joined TTEOTD in March, is the third member to leave the group in recent months. Johnson will reportedly perform his first show with Since The Flood on Sunday, January 27th at the Waterfront Tavern in Holyoke, MA.

As previously reported, drummer Josh Kulick quit the band earlier this month and guitarist Chris Anderson quit the band back in October of 2007.

Mirroring their revolving door of band members, Since the Flood just announced their latest singer, Nate Siemens, to the group's ranks last September as well as former Guns Up! bassist Ricky Nukem.

The Handshake Murders Cancel Tour Dates

The Handshake Murders has cancelled a handful of upcoming tour dates as a result of financial difficulties, among other things. Here's a statement from guitarist Bryan Evans:

"We've never done this within our entire touring career, but the unthinkable must take place. We are having to cancel our upcoming tour with With Blood Comes Cleansing and A Plea For Purging as well as our Texas dates with A Plea For Purging. The reasons just kept piling up on us within the past two weeks. Here are some of the reasons I can actually go into:

"1. We're low on merch and have too many standing debts to merch companies - nothing outrageous, but we're definitely not in the financial stance to let it keep piling on. We are out of several sizes of designs and basically we cannot reorder.

"2. The band is in quite a large financial slump due to credit card debt and minimum payments stacking. This is from getting the band off the ground in the past, merch orders, CD pressing, etc. If you're in a band, you know about this.

"3. We're working on relationships within the band. it's amazing what nonstop touring can do to 5 friends.

"4. We were promised by tour management that we'd receive at least a certain said amount each night, and this promise was broken when we received the profit breakdown. we would've been completely stoked about doing the tour anyway if it weren't for the first two reasons I just stated about our debts. I will add, though, that the tour management tried to resolve this problem.

"5. My guitar head is in the shop for repairs and could not get fixed in time.

"6. Jeff no longer has a bass head. having to borrow shit every night isn't cool.

"7. There are other personal issues I don't feel at liberty to discuss.

"My biggest and sincerest apologies go out to everyone who planned on seeing us especially... all the fans we could've possibly made on this tour, all the promoters involved (especially you folks in Texas who were willing to throw something together last minute), and most importantly our apologies go to our friends in With Blood Comes Cleansing and A Plea For Purging for bailing out last minute. This is unprofessional, I do know.

"In the meantime, we will be trying to do some extensive songwriting for what will hopefully turn into a new record eventually. We're all stoked about writing, we've all got some different ideas. Hopefully we can tour out with some new songs by April, this is what we're aiming for."

First Blood Recording New Album

First Blood is recording a new album for Trustkill Records with engineer Zach Ohren (Light This City). Titled "Silence Is Betrayal," the effort should be available in late-spring/early-summer. Here's the official word from frontman Carl Schwartz:

"I can't believe it has been almost 2 years since the release of our debut full-length album 'Killafornia' on Trustkill Records. Well, thankfully there hasn't been a shortage of stuff in the world to be pissed-off about, so this upcoming album will be nothing short of brutal - and quite possibly the most critical, condemning, and controversial material we will ever release.

"For fans of First Blood - Yes, this album will be every bit as heavy and crushing as the first, and then some. But the focus of this album resides in the message. There is simply too much going on in the world today to ignore, and if we are going to dedicate our time and lives to writing music and constantly touring the world while getting very little in return, then we might as well make it worth it and make a fucking statement. I find this world becoming increasingly hostile while the powers that be continue to undertake massive efforts to induce us all into passivity, conformity, and false sense of comfort. Well, life is not comfortable and it is our turn to 'stir the pot.'"

Control Denied Album To Be Reissued

Metal Mind Productions will reissue Control Denied's "The Fragile Art Of Existence" on April 15th (February 11th in Europe). The release will be limited to 2,000 copies, digitally remastered using 24-bit process on golden disc. Here's a statement from Metal Mind:

"There are several reasons for Control Denied to be taken much more seriously than just a side-project. One of them is certainly the name of the group's founder - Chuck Schuldiner to this day remains an icon of death metal music, leaving behind a true legacy of amazing albums and memorable songs. Control Denied was his final and most personal creation – a natural continuation of the ideas gathered in Death's three last albums – 'Individual Thought Patterns', 'Symbolic” and 'The Sound of Perseverance'. Although musically the group ventured away from death metal into a bit lighter style, the progressive edge remained untouched – the band's debut (and, as it was soon to be revealed, only) album, 'The Fragile Art Of Existence' is still one of Schuldiner's most fruitful efforts, showcasing mature, structured musicianship and amazing songwriting skills."

This limited re-release has come about due to Metal Mind Productions' recently announced deal with Nuclear Blast Records in which Metal Mind will license and reissue a number of albums in Nuclear Blast's back-catalogue. In the first half of 2008 Metal Mind Productions will re-issue nearly 70 albums from their deep archives, with reissues from Control Denied, Macabre, and Mortification expected first.

Iron Maiden Comment On Tour Documentary

As previously reported, Directors Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn of Banger Films Inc. (creators of the critically acclaimed, award-winning documentary Metal: Headbanger's Journey and its soon-to-be-released follow-up Global Metal) are looking for IRON MAIDEN fans to be part of a feature documentary that will follow the first leg of the band's upcoming Somewhere Back In Time tour during February and March.

On Feburary 1, Iron Maiden and their 70-strong road crew will embark on their most ambitious tour ever. All this with lead singer/commercial pilot Bruce Dickinson at the helm.

For the official tour documentary, Scot and Sam will follow the band in the air and on the stage, giving viewers behind-the-scenes and front-and-centre access to the most anticipated metal tour of 2008. They are now seeking Maiden fans in India, Australia, Japan, North America, Central America and South America to be part of this historic mission. If you're a die-hard Maiden fan who is attending one or more concerts on the first leg of the upcoming tour (February 1 to March 16 2008) and are willing to be interviewed on camera about your passion for all things Maiden, email maiden@metalhistory.com and tell us why YOU should be in this movie! All ages encouraged.

Iron Maiden have issued the following update regarding the documentary: "As well as everyone else on our 757 we have now added a seven man documentary crew who, as in their note below, are asking for Maiden fans in the many cities we play in February - March to contact them to be a part of this. This will be such an incredible and exciting tour that we agreed with Scot and Sam's proposal to document this so if you see cameras following us around everywhere and around the stage you now know why!! A record of this is something that the band and myself would love to have and we are feel that many of you fans may feel hopefully feel the same - there has never been a tour quite like this before!"

Dope Signs To Koch Records

KOCH Records has announced the signing of Chicago-based hard-rock/nu-metal act Dope. The band’s fifth release titled "No Regrets" will be released on June 10th, 2008.

Dope lead vocalist / rhythm guitarist Edsel Dope and long time lead guitarist Virus have revamped Dope’s line-up for "No Regrets." Joining the band on bass guitar and backing vocals is Tripp Tribbet (former lead vocalist for Ozzfest 2002 band Twisted Method and younger brother of Mudvayne/ HellYeah guitarist Greg Tribbet). On drums, Dope recruited former Genitorturers drummer Angel Bartolotta.

Zack Wylde lent his signature guitar squeals to Dope on the new track “Addiction.” A video for “Addiction” is currently in development.

Dope recently completed a U.S. headlining tour showcasing new tracks from "No Regrets" including the track “Violence” for which they shot a video during the tour. A snippet of the unmixed track is up on the band’s website now. On the West Coast leg of the tour, Dope was direct support for Black Label Society at the request of Zakk Wylde.

Dope has recently returned to Chicago and is currently mixing their upcoming KOCH Records debut with producer/engineer Tadpole, who recently completed the tracking on the upcoming Disturbed album.

Another one of Dope’s new tracks “Nothing Here for Me” is featured on the new Guitar Hero 3 video game and will be included as a bonus track on "No Regrets." More...

BFMV Inspire Comic Book Series

Much buzzed-about breaking band BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE has commissioned celebrated indie comic book writer and illustrator Tom Manning to create a mini-comic book for every one of the 11 songs on the band's new album, "Scream Aim Fire," which will be released on January 29 (20/20/Jive/Zomba).

Each book will be three-to-five pages in length and all are inspired by the lyrics of the songs on the new release. The first three ("Scream Aim Fire," "Waking The Demon," "Hearts Burst Into Fire") will be available on January 29 in the PDF booklet of the iTunes deluxe version of the album. Ultimately, all 11 books will be available for viewing on a micro-site found at www.safthecomics.com. Fans can access a free PDF download of "Scream Aim Fire" now when they sign up for the band's mailing list at www.safthecomics.com/freedownload.

In addition to the actual comic book for every song, 15-second animated trailers have been created for each comic and have just been posted on media partner websites. The first trailer for the CD's title track can be viewed now on the band's YouTube channel and MySpace profile.

Tom Manning is a writer, illustrator and graphic designer living in New Haven, Connecticut. His first graphic novel, RACECAR, was published in 1999, and the final volume of his critically acclaimed series Runoff has recently been published by OddGod Press. He has art directed magazines such as Filter and Mean, and is currently in the final year of a master's degree in graphic design from Yale University. He enjoys cats, Earl Grey tea, his parents, and ghost stories. His hobbies include work. More information on his comics can be found at www.robotsandmonkeys.com.

"Scream Aim Fire" is Bullet For My Valentine's sophomore release and follows their 2006 debut "The Poison" which has sold more than a million copies worldwide. The eleven new songs are, according to frontman Matthew Tuck, "really melodic heavy metal...catchy, hooky choruses and full-on vocals, with the music being very in-your-face and heavy." The CD's title track is already Top 30 at Active Rock stations.

The four-piece metal core band from Bridgend, South Wales, UK - Matthew "Matt" Tuck/vocals, Michael "Padge" Paget/Guitar, Michael "Moose" Thomas/drums, and Jason "Jay" James/Bass - are, according to the UK's Kerrang!, well on their way to "phase two of world domination" with the new disc. The band graces the cover of the brand new issue of Revolver, themed "The Future of Metal."

Bullet For My Valentine will support "Scream Aim Fire" beginning with the Taste of Chaos tour which kicks off in Denver, CO on February 29.

AC/DC Rumoured For Australian Stadium Show

According to News.com.au, speculation is mounting over who is next to take the Suncorp Stadium stage in Brisbane, Australia.

AC/DC fans, prepare to rejoice. An Acca Dacca tour has been rumoured for years, but industry insiders reckon the kings of hard rock will hit the road this year, including a Suncorp blitzkreig.

And local promoters salivating over LED ZEPPELIN are on the phones to Canada. Following the band's London reunion gig, Toronto-based promoter Michael Cohl is reportedly stitching up a Led Zep tour. The cost? $200 million for North America alone.

But with Zep singer ROBERT PLANT touring with recent collaborator ALISON KRAUSS in April and May, a Led Zep jaunt to Oz could take place next year.

Feb. 19 - Washington, DC - The Red and The Black
Feb. 20 - Passaic, NJ - Loop Lounge
Feb. 21 - Philadelphia, PA - The Khyber

ASCENSION OF THE WATCHERS will release its full-length debut, "Numinosum", on February 19, 2008 via MINISTRY frontman Al Jourgensen's 13th Planet Records

"Numinosum" track listing:

01. Ascendant
02. Evading
03. Residual Presence
04. Canon For My Beloved
05. Moon Shine
06. Becoming Mars
07. On The River
08. Violent Morning
09. Like Falling Snow
10. Sounds Of Silence
11. Quintessence

Burton C. Bell recently spoke to MTV.com about ASCENSION OF THE WATCHERS.

"I've never really considered myself a metal guy," Bell explained. "Yeah, I've been in a metal-industrial band, but the music I've always listened to has been much different, which is maybe why the vocals I did with FEAR FACTORY were different than those of other metal singers. But I definitely wanted to do something much different this time. The music is completely personal, and it lets me try techniques I haven't previously had the chance to explore. We used to always say we were expanding the boundaries in FEAR FACTORY. Well, now I'm really stepping out of the boundaries."

Regarding the current status of FEAR FACTORY, Bell said, "FEAR FACTORY is on hiatus. As far as I know, it's not over. I just wanted to work on some other stuff. I've been part of FEAR FACTORY since its inception, and 17 years later I need to do something else for a while. And FEAR FACTORY doesn't have a record deal, so there's no contractual obligation to move forward with that, so right now it's all about the WATCHERS."

Scars On Broadway Confirmed For Coachella Festival

SYSTEM OF A DOWN guitarist Daron Malakian's new band with SYSTEM drummer John Dolmayan, called SCARS ON BROADWAY, has been confirmed for this year's Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, set to take place April 25-27 in Indio, California.

For more information, visit www.coachella.com.

Malakian has told Revolver magazine that SCARS ON BROADWAY is his first priority right now and he doesn't see a return to SYSTEM any time soon. Malakian explained, "SYSTEM is not my band right now. I'll go back and do that someday. I'd expect a second SCARS album before I'd expect another SYSTEM album." That could mean a long wait for SYSTEM fans, since SCARS ON BROADWAY has yet to finish recording its debut album or set a release date. The last SYSTEM CD, "Hypnotize", came out in late 2005.

SYSTEM drummer John Dolmayan, who also plays in SCARS ON BROADWAY, told The Pulse of Radio he understands fans being concerned over SYSTEM's future. "The SYSTEM issue is gonna come up forever," he said. "It's unavoidable because people really like the band and they want to see the band working, making albums and touring. The only thing I would ask of our fans is just be a little bit patient. We are in a phase of our lives where we need to do something different so that we can come back to SYSTEM renewed and refreshed. That's not gonna take 15 years. We don't know exactly how many years it'll take. When we're ready, we'll get back into it."

SCARS ON BROADWAY has yet to determine which record label will release their debut album.

SYSTEM vocalist Serj Tankian released his debut solo effort, "Elect the Dead", last October through Reprise Records.

SYSTEM OF A DOWN bassist Shavo Odadjian recently launched a music-based social networking site called urSession and is working on his own side project with WU-TANG CLAN member The RZA.

God Forbid Want Fans To Name DVD

Doc Coyle (guitars, vocals) states: “God Forbid has been kicking for ten years strong, and we are consistently blown away by how loyal our fans have been through our musical evolution. It's definitely time to give something back. The GF camp have been having some trouble coming up with a title for our upcoming DVD, so Dallas (guitars, vocals) thought it might a good idea to involve our faithful fans in our creative process by letting you name the DVD. Yes, YOU motherfucker! Put on your thinking caps and become part of God Forbid history.

“This contest will only be running for a week, and the grand prize winner will get their name listed in the DVD’s credits, receive an autographed copy of the DVD, an ESP/Cocaine Energy drink guitar and a case of cocaine energy drinks. The two runner ups will also receive a bunch of other awesome stuff. We're going to pick the top three and have everyone vote on the best title from there. We will announce the winner on January 28th. Good luck and let the games begin!”

Please send all DVD title submissions to mail@centurymedia.com and be sure to include your full name, age and mailing address. The contest runs through 12PM on Friday, January 25th.

Coyle further comments: “This is going to be a big year for God Forbid as we will be releasing our first ever DVD and our first new album since 2005. The DVD is pretty much done, except for the menus, and we still need a title. I've already mentioned how incredible the concert portion looks and sounds, but the band was fortunate enough to be able to screen the documentary portion, directed by Denise Korycki, and we were all blown away. It is a combination of historical insight, introspection into our personalities, social commentary and some god damn funny ass shit. I guess we were sick of being funny on other bands DVDs. If you consider yourself a true God Forbid fan, this DVD will be essential. I think this DVD ranks among the best metal DVDs on the market.

“In regards to the new album, we are a lot further along in the writing process. We have a few songs completed, and probably a dozen more in the works. So far the material is extremely varied. I can also say that Dallas and I have started using seven string guitars, so tonally there will be more variety.

"We will be heading into the studio at the beginning of March with our long-time producer and friend, Eric Rachel (ATREYU, IN THIS MOMENT) at Trax East. So the album we probably come out mid to late summer. Let's keep our fingers crossed on that front. We will also begin videotaping rehearsals and recording, and releasing some YouTube updates as the process continues. Keep your eyes and ears open for those. More news to follow soon”
