Gwar Enters The Billboard Charts

Gore loving heavy metal group Gwar has entered the Billboard Top 200 album charts at number 96 with their latest studio offering, "Lust In Space." This is the highest charting album of the bands career.

Lead singer Oderus Urungus had the following to say about GWAR’s record setting chart debut, “We are appalled, shocked, outraged, and completely ecstatic over GWAR's latest master-work, Lust In Space debuting at #96 in the Billboard Charts...in keeping with my finally confirmed uber-rock star status, I have already vomited on Lindsay Lohan's puss, visited the the Obama girls, and sodomized Carrot-Top. And there was much rejoicing.”

Still sporting nachos in his beard, Oderus continued to rant “But 96? That's just not going to do it...GWAR and Metal Blade Records plan to keep on with this relentless assault until we go all the way to # 95!"

36 Crazyfists To Release Career Spanning DVD

Alaskan metal group 36 Crazyfists has announced that they will be releasing a new DVD entitled, "Underneath A Northern Sky" on October 27th.

"Anchorage, Alaska has a small music scene," explains vocalist Brock Lindow. "Pretty much everyone knows each other. Growing up in here, shaped us to be aware of the beauty of isolation and creating your own self. We had MTV just like everyone else, but as people, we adapted to dark winters and summers where the sun never went down. That in itself created so many amazing rituals and memories of the season.”

The DVD will include footage of the very first 36 Crazyfists show as well as countless other rare scenes of globetrotting by a band from Alaska who has defied the odds of coming from a place of obscurity to touring and playing major festivals around the world. Along with the live show, ridiculous backstage antics and band member interviews, all the bands videos are also present on the DVD.

"There are interviews from band members sharing their thoughts on our career and all the wonderful things we have been able to experience because of this band." continues Lindow "Our fans have been waiting for something like this to surface for sometime and for that I'm very grateful to Todd Bell, AKSOUL and Ferret for giving us the opportunity to finally put out our very first DVD. This is for the ears and eyes of the interested, for the fans who have been there through thick and thin!"

Katatonia Issues New Album Recording Update

Katatonia is currently set to release their upcoming album "Night is the New Day" on November 2nd in Europe and November 10th in the U.S. through Peaceville Records. Katatonia has also issued the following recording update:

"Vocals... what about them? Well, yeah... they have to be there. Even though I had done much of the vocal parts/ideas already on the demos, I couldn't imagine the extent of what was about to come. Starting out, I was feeling better than I thought, since I had problems with my throat earlier during the recording. It wasn't a cold as I first expected, I have no idea what it was/is, but it has affected me in some ways.

"I keep singing, it's what I do, apparently. I think it sounds good, but it feels weird at times (age?). More tracks nailed and listening back, I realize that I've never sung this MUCH on an album before. Not that I'm singing ALL THE TIME (don't worry), but the vocals are much more demanding. I hope it is because the singing is better, and not because my throat is worse. Anyway, I'm kinda confident.

"After a few breaks in the recording to play some festival gigs (Portugal, Germany and the UK) I went back down the rathole to nail the last few songs. My voice was already tired from the studio session, and even more tired from the gigs and I was really worried, but behind the microphone everything fell into place for that one last session. I've done my part... soon it is your part, folks! Because the mixdown is already well under way, we've currently nailed 5 songs out of 12 and we're continuing to nail 1 song per day, so on September 1st, the album is going to be completed. No more rathole, we're free to go. It's hard to believe it's true. It looks like the mini-site is gonna open on September 7th or 11th with the final tracklist, audio snippets and more."

Vallon Announes Band Changes

Boston metallers Vallon are making "big" changes in their band and made the following announcement

"As you all may have noticed, VALLON has been going through some big changes musically. We are striving to bring you a new kind of music that we all enjoy playing and is much different from our old material, our new sound will be extremely technical, more advanced melodically, much more detail oriented, and very heavy. Our three newest songs Foundation, Guardians, and Ghost Choir mark our musical transition well but are not the pinnacle of our future material.

"We are taking a progressive approach to our new sound and writing style that will make each one of our songs a continuos stream instead of taking our listeners in monotonous circles. However, it would be impossible to have such big changes musically if we didn't make some changes within our band..."

Dave Mustaine Slams Lars Ulrich... Again

In the September 2009 issue of U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine (see cover below), Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine explains the reasons behind his decision to turn down Metallica's invitation to attend their induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

Mustaine, who was a member of Metallica for less than two years, from 1981 to 1983, before being dismissed and replaced by Kirk Hammett, tells the magazine, "Lars [Ulrich, Metallica drummer] said, 'If you were on the record, you got inducted; if you weren't on the record, you didn't,' and would I come along and hang out and watch them get inducted? I was like, 'Dude, that's so typical!' It makes for the same kind of mentality as a guy watching some other guy fuck his girlfriend. I just said, 'I'm flattered and I'm proud of you guys and I wish you well. I'll be there if I'm being inducted, but if I'm gonna watch, then I've got better things to do.'"

Mustaine adds, "To say that I'm not on the record, well, I'd say that there are 40 million fans with Megadeth and Metallica records in their collections that would say that Dave is on the Metallica records because my name's on there [in the songwriting credits], but I guess Lars never really looked past the word 'Ulrich.' He just stopped there and read it again, over and over and over!

"Bottom line is, I'm going to get into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame one way or another and he can't keep me out! When I do, I'm going to ask him to induct us and I'm gonna give eggs to everyone in the front row! [Laughs]" More...

Dark Tranquility Announces Release Date Of New DVD

Dark Tranquility will be releasing a DVD titled, "Where Death Is Most Alive" in commemoration of their 20th Anniversary which will take you from the band's raw beginnings to their current position as one of the most diverse and influential metal acts.

The band comments: “After a lot of work, we're proud to announce that the "Where Death Is Most Alive" DVD will see the light of day on October 26th, 2009 in Europe and November 17th, 2009 in North America via Century Media Records. This little baby took quite some time to deliver, but when you'll see the scope and quality of the material, you'll understand why it wasn't done over a fortnight.

Our first official DVD, "Live damage" (2002), was OK for its time, but hardly spectacular, so this time we wanted to make sure that we could offer people something more substantial that would live up to the high expectations. For the main feature, we had our headline show in Milano last October professionally documented by Finnish production company Vasara Films. As expected, they did a stellar job with both the filming and editing and really managed to capture the vibe of the evening. Italy is home to some of the most devoted and enthusiastic D.T. fans on earth, something which is very obvious from the footage. The show is the longest one in D.T. history (and one of the very last concerts held at the legendary Rolling Stone club), and features a guest performance by Nell Sigland on "The Mundane and the Magic" and "Insanity's crescendo". For the mixing, we once again let Tue Madsen work his magic at his Antfarm Studios in Denmark, and the result is simply amazing.

In addition to that, Village Road films have put together "Out Of Nothing", a true stroll-down-memory-lane documentary about the band. All current members as well as Michael Nicklasson (ex-bass) and Fredrik Johansson (ex-guitar) are interviewed, and a host of people from the early Gothenburg scene share their anecdotes and memories. Among others, Tomas Lindberg (At The Gates, Grotesque etc), Anders Iwers (Tiamat, Ceremonial Oath) and Fredrik Nordström (Studio Fredman) appear in the film, which spans for approx. 47 minutes.

The DVD will also mark the premiere of the "Misery's Crown" promo video, shot earlier this year by Roger Johansson and Vasara Films. All our other promo clips from recent years are featured as well.

Furthermore, we undertook some extensive detective research, raiding our old homes to dig up long forgotten VHS tapes from the archives. A surprisingly large amount of footage was found, most of which never even got spread through the tape trading network at the time. In total, the "Live Archive" portion of the DVD features 21 tracks with a strong emphasis on old ("Skydancer" and earlier) material including some real rarities. Most of these songs were only performed live a handful of times, as shows weren't that frequent back then. Two of them ("Soulbreed" and "The Dying Fragment Of An Elderly Dream") are actually the only D.T. songs that were 100% completed but never recorded properly in studio. Both were written in the autumn of 1991.

To conclude - we're damn proud of this release, and more than sure that it will satisfy the high expectations of both old and new fans alike. Here's to the next 20 years!“
