Unearthing the Metal Underground: The Rite
The international outfit The Rite, bridging musicians from Denmark and Italy, is an interesting band in that it isn’t exceptional at any given moment. Yet their captivating nature becomes obvious when analyzed and consumed holistically. While seemingly conventional on the surface, the depth of the band’s black/doom approach becomes apparent once one has listened to the entirety of any of its releases since its inception in 2017. Marching forward with determination, the prolific ensemble is set to release its second long player today. More...
Exiled Hope Release New Single "The Summoning"
Exiled Hope, the blackened power metal project of Sofia Frasz, has unveiled the haunting new single “The Summoning”. Opening with an ethereal piano-driven introduction, orchestral strings gently emerge along with Sofia’s ghostly vocals. Soon exploding into an onslaught of high-speed guitar riffs, gothic backing and demonic harsh, “The Summoning” sees the light and the dark entwine and collide.
“’The Summoning’ was the first song I recorded for Apocrypha almost exactly 2 years ago. It introduces the protagonist’s struggle to reclaim his identity and find meaning in a world full of monsters (literal and metaphorical) tempting him to sacrifice his humanity for power. But to conquer his demons, he must first call them forth and confront them. Though the upcoming album has its lighter and softer moments, its defining quality is a much deeper dive into doom and black metal. It has a more gothic, ethereal feel, since much of the album deals with the world that bridges the living and the dead.” More...
Mantar Releases New Single "Valhalla Hammering"
German metal duo Mantar has unveiled the music video for the new standalone single, "Valhalla Hammering." You can check it out below.
Vocalist/guitarist Hanno Klänhardt comments: "'Valhalla Hammering' is one of those songs that we instantly fell in love with but never made it on the album last year. It's one of those songs that you do not write to create an 'instant classic' but much rather in order to entertain yourself as a songwriter. It's about 7 minutes long but we really liked the concept of having the most catchy, on point songs all on the last Album so it never really found its place.
"I actually already knew it most likely would not end up on the album when I was writing it. In fact I wrote it with the plan already in my mind to release it quite some time AFTER we would release 'Pain Is Forever And This Is The End' in order to present something completely different as a next move. It's always good to cause confusion.
"The first two minutes are kinda a homage to our VERY early days when Doom as a genre was more important to us. You can hear that for instance on the last song of our first album. It's a song called 'March Of The Crows'. People often said that slow SUPER heavy suited us well but we were also always very song orientated, so with Valhalla Hammering we accomplished the best of both worlds. Slow, heavy groove and a catchy, almost trippy hook. Also We have a freakin' flute solo around 5 minutes in. This very well might be considered the highlight of our songwriting career.
"The video for the song is just as trippy as the song itself. Based on a documentary by Amsterdam based artist Willehad Eilers aka Wayne Horse. Creating the footage was way beyond a regular video shoot and to be quite frank some of it better not be explained any further. Even if we wanted to, we can't. Enjoy the ride." More...
Game Over Announces First Album In Six Years
Game Over will release the killer comeback album "Hellframes" on October 20 through Scarlet Records – their first release since 2017’s "Claiming Supremacy."
Recorded at Raptor Recording Studio and spine-chillingly illustrated by the horror master Mario López, Hellframes will be released in the following formats:
- jewel case CD
- vinyl (black/marbled red limited 100 copies/marbled blue limited 100 copies)
- digital
"Hellframes" is a neck-breaking album where Game Over keep delivering their rabid, insane brand of thrash metal and pushing the songwriting out of the comfort zone at the same time. A frantic mix of thrashing madness, punk attitude, infecting melodies and some creepy obscure atmospheres.
Lyric-wise, a couple of tracks are intricately woven together, telling the tale of a 15th century priest who birthed an occult cult, re-discovered in modern times through technology and unleashing unspeakable evil from hell. Other songs delve into the depths of human existence and mind – exploring pain, fear, and the relentless struggles we face every day. More...
