Iron Maiden Headlining Download Festival

Following the official announcement this evening on BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe show, IRON MAIDEN has confirmed it will be once again headlining this year's Download festival on Sunday, June 10, making this a record-breaking fourth headline appearance at the world-famous Donington Park.

The first time MAIDEN ever played at Donington was when they topped the bill in 1988, with KISS and GUNS N' ROSES among the supports, playing to over 100,000 people — the biggest Donington crowd by far and still the biggest metal show ever in the U.K. — returning again in 1992 and 2003.

Commented MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson: "Our fans know that Donington is a special place for MAIDEN and we are all looking forward to getting back there for a fourth time. The 'A Matter of Life and Death U.K. Tour' last December was very special for us and we very much appreciated the fans giving us such great support in us playing the whole album which, let's face it, was not necessarily the easiest thing to do for us or them! It was definitely the right challenge for us at that time but outdoors in the summer is different and as a 'thank-you' to our fans we will be including quite a few more 'classic' favorites balanced with some of the tracks from the new album. We will naturally bring Eddie and his toys along, so all in all it should be a great day for everybody!!"

Headline acts for the other two days are MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE on Friday, June 8 and LINKIN PARK on Saturday, June 9.

Dark Tranquillity Reveal Fiction Album Details

Swedish melodic death metal pioneers DARK TRANQUILLITY triumphantly return with "Fiction" in April 2007, a scorching effort that will undoubtedly add an exhilarating new chapter to the genre's storied history. The album was mixed by the acclaimed Tue Madsen (HIMSA, THE HAUNTED) and encompasses all of the elements on which the band built their career: thought-provoking lyrics, shredding guitar work, captivating melodies and sheer brutality. This offering is perhaps best compared to a modern-day version of the group's revered classics "The Gallery" and "The Mind's I", only with more intensity behind it. The blueprint of melodic death metal is now at your fingertips.

Niklas Sundin (guitars) further describes his thoughts on the new album: "Tue Madsen did a fantastic job with the sound, and the result is diverse and exciting enough to satisfy even the most critical of listeners. The 10 songs are extremely varied and showcase all facets of the D.T. experience while breaking new ground as well as reviving some elements that haven't been featured in D.T. songs since the early years. At the moment, we're putting the finishing touches to the packaging as well as preparing for the recording of the 'Focus Shift' and 'Misery's Crown' promo videos. Directing is once again Roger Johansson, who worked with us on the videos for 'Character'."

DARK TRANQUILLITY holds the esteemed distinction as being one of the bands responsible for founding an entirely new genre of death metal in the early '90s, which came to be known as "the Gothenburg sound." Their previous album, "Character", was hailed by critics and fans alike as the group's most savage and dynamic offering yet. They have solidified their fanbase through numerous tours alongside the likes of such genre titans as KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, KREATOR, IN FLAMES, OPETH and SOILWORK, among others. More...

Gorgoroth Frontman Calls For More Church Burnings

According to the Norwegian newspaper Bergens Tidende, the police in Bergen, Norway have launched an investigation into recent statements made by GORGOROTH frontman Gaahl regarding a spate of church burnings that took place in Norway in the early Nineties.

In an interview that some consider to be the highlight of "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey", the acclaimed Canadian documentary which was broadcast on Norway's Lydverket NRK 1 this past Wednesday (Jan. 24), Gaahl stated about the string of arson attacks linked to the Norwegian black metal scene, "Church burnings and all these things are, of course, things that I support 100 percent and it should have been done much more and will be done much more in the future. We have to remove every trace from what Christianity and the Semitic roots have to offer this world. Satanism is freedom for the individual to grow and to become Superman. Every man who is born to be king becomes king. Every man who is born to be a slave doesn't know Satan." (Watch Gaahl's interview with the "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" documentary makers at YouTube.com.)

Speaking to Bergens Tidende after "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" aired on Norwegian TV, Gaahl reiterated his position on the church burnings, insisting that he was dead serious about what he said in the movie and that it wasn't something he stated simply for shock value.

GORGOROTH is one of the artists that have been nominated in the "Metal" category at the 35th annual Spellemann awards (the Norwegian equivalent to the Grammy Awards). The largest and oldest Norwegian music awards show will be held tonight (Saturday, January 27) at the Thalia Theater, Chateau Neuf in Oslo, Norway and will be broadcast live on the Norwegian channel TV2.

Bishop Ole D. Hagesaether of Bjoergvin Diocese told Bergens Tidende, "If these proclamations regarding church burnings are serious, then it is a grave situation. We have experienced this before." Hagesaether also raised the question how those who are involved with the nominating committee for the Spellemann awards could avoid considering simple, basic moral issues when coming up with the final list of nominees for Norway's most prestigious music honor. Uriah Heep Part Ways With Drummer Lee Kerslake

U.K. hard rock legends URIAH HEEP have announced that, due to ongoing health problems, longstanding drummer Lee Kerslake will leave the band with immediate effect.

During 2006, when URIAH HEEP toured in some twenty territories ranging from Indonesia, India and Thailand through to Brazil, Peru, Russia and Bulgaria, concluding with a six-week acoustic tour through Europe, Lee found the rigors of constant touring increasingly stressful and will now take the opportunity over the next few months to embark on a stringent campaign in order to resolve his health issues.

Comments HEEP lead guitarist and founder member Mick Box: "All the band are fully behind Lee in his efforts to become fully match fit again. For me, it is particularly devastating to lose not only someone who I have worked with for some thirty five years, but also one of my closest and oldest friends who I love like a brother. It is, however, in the best interests of both Lee and the band that a change is made now. More...
