Gorgoroth Frontman Calls For More Church Burnings; Police To Investigate

According to the Norwegian newspaper Bergens Tidende, the police in Bergen, Norway have launched an investigation into recent statements made by GORGOROTH frontman Gaahl regarding a spate of church burnings that took place in Norway in the early Nineties.
In an interview that some consider to be the highlight of "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey", the acclaimed Canadian documentary which was broadcast on Norway's Lydverket NRK 1 this past Wednesday (Jan. 24), Gaahl stated about the string of arson attacks linked to the Norwegian black metal scene, "Church burnings and all these things are, of course, things that I support 100 percent and it should have been done much more and will be done much more in the future. We have to remove every trace from what Christianity and the Semitic roots have to offer this world. Satanism is freedom for the individual to grow and to become Superman. Every man who is born to be king becomes king. Every man who is born to be a slave doesn't know Satan." (Watch Gaahl's interview with the "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" documentary makers at YouTube.com.)
Speaking to Bergens Tidende after "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" aired on Norwegian TV, Gaahl reiterated his position on the church burnings, insisting that he was dead serious about what he said in the movie and that it wasn't something he stated simply for shock value.
GORGOROTH is one of the artists that have been nominated in the "Metal" category at the 35th annual Spellemann awards (the Norwegian equivalent to the Grammy Awards). The largest and oldest Norwegian music awards show will be held tonight (Saturday, January 27) at the Thalia Theater, Chateau Neuf in Oslo, Norway and will be broadcast live on the Norwegian channel TV2.
Bishop Ole D. Hagesaether of Bjoergvin Diocese told Bergens Tidende, "If these proclamations regarding church burnings are serious, then it is a grave situation. We have experienced this before." Hagesaether also raised the question how those who are involved with the nominating committee for the Spellemann awards could avoid considering simple, basic moral issues when coming up with the final list of nominees for Norway's most prestigious music honor.
According to a posting on GORGOROTH's official web site, Gaahl was released from the Norwegian prison in December after being jailed since the spring of 2006.
Gaahl was sentenced to 14 months in prison in February 2005 for torture and committing ritual acts. It was alleged he beat his victim — a man who had turned up uninvited and inebriated to an after-hours party at his house — threatened to sacrifice him and gave him a cup into which to bleed. Acting as his own defense, Gaahl claimed in court that he had been attacked first and his assailant was only provided with a cup "so that he wouldn't make such a mess in my house."
In an interview with the U.K.'s The Observer which was published in February 2005, the singer refused to discuss his version of events in detail now for fear of prejudicing the outcome of the trial, but insisted he was attacked as part of a hit organized by a man with whom he had a prior dispute.
The use of violence, according to Gaahl, is only necessary when people cross his clearly defined borders. "Everything deals with respect," he told The Observer. "The way I think of it is that you have to punish ... or teach," he corrected himself, "anyone that crosses your borders so that they won't do it again."
Gaahl's ethical code derives from Odinism, the pagan religion of the Vikings that predates Christianity in Norway and is also the occult philosophy that underpins black metal. Many in the scene have adopted or adapted names from Norse mythology.
"Black metal was never meant to reach an audience," Gaahl told The Observer. "It was purely for our own satisfaction. Something entirely self-centered. The shared goal was to become the true Satan; the elite human, basically. The elite are above rules. So people did what they wanted to do. And they had a common enemy which was, of course, Christianity, socialism and everything that democracy stands for, especially this idea that every man is alike and equal to his neighbour. That, of course, is a fake."
Gaahl's extremist outlook is undoubtedly influenced by his surroundings. He lives on a farm three hours outside of Bergen, isolated from the mass of humanity. "My family owns three mountains," he said. 'There's not much else around there. Love of nature is a big part of black metal. It's easy to feel isolated in nature. And solitude and distance from everyone else is very important to us."

Believe in whatever you wanna believe but this guy's just talking a load of sh**. No excuse for burning churches at all. I saw a black metal band once and on stage they literally said, "An axe to the face of every Christian!" but before they went on they were all scared and sh** it was the funniest thing ever. As I said, I respect all beliefs but openly advocating arson is just stupid. And as the above post said (and given that he's satanist so I think we can trust his post) Satanism doesn't advocate it anyway. It's just this dude being a c*** really.
shut up you f***in christian poser c**ts.... christianity is not a heritage....far from it... it is deculturisation and moral/mental distruction.... they distructed many and many more heritage values such as pagan religions and populations...that was real heritage...all of which has been destroyed buy you christian c**ts.... now that you have destroyed enough...its your time to perish....either with diplomatic ways or else with brutal ways... and this is not something to joke about... the world is totally fed up with your lies and with all these f**kin religions which are the cause of so much social chaos!!!
anti-christian....not satanist your a damn idiot no religion is a heritage and christianity dosent denounce any other belief i study religions your just f***ing stupid as old a$$ GORGOROTH that slow a$$ grampa black metal is just trying to gain some attention what a joke you should respect everyones belief because you have no right to say its wrong or right
"Hagesaether also raised the question how those who are involved with the nominating committee for the Spellemann awards could avoid considering simple, basic moral issues when coming up with the final list"
Morality is an illusion, this comment is painfully Christian.
""Satanism is freedom for the individual to grow and to become Superman."
What a f***ing loser"
If you weren't a moron you would notice this is an obvious nod to Nietzsche's ubermench or overman/superman. Satanism seems to me to be a sect of nihilism with specific values or goals. His ideology only seems extreme to those who can't abstract themselves from this current society. I don't agree with finer points of the way to achieve these goals but I at least understand why, we strive for the same values in different ways (most notably Democracy).
c*** or not, gorgoroth rules. the new album is amazing. also, the film that this is taken from is very good. it couldve dealt with the "underground" scene a little bit more, however, on the whole "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" is a very good documentary. i dont agree with him, but Gaahl means what he says which is a scary thought. what i dont understand is how they keep letting him out of jail when they know he is going to commit more crimes?
I equate this to extremist groups burning down black churches in America. It's just plain wrong. This guys philosophy is similar to that of the Ayran Nation (KKK, etc;) whose beliefs are based on fear, hate and the ILLUSION/DELUSION of being superior. He's a egomaniac!
religion is a heritage in some case....surely this is not the christian, islamic and jewish case.... for me pagan religions are a ture heritage.... i don't know Gaahl...i don't know his past and so on...but surely i know his ideas about christianity and nature.....christians are a bunch of sh*t....you can give different explanations of these bustards but in the end the only way how to get them down is annihilate them all!!! as they did with our fore-fathers!!! this applies also for the rest of the "large" religions (islam and jews).....note:- i'm not a nazi....the way how they should be annihilated has not to be a genocide.....just destroying the their belief would be enough.
Many are fed up of christianity.... and only the main "guides" should be killed...the followers are just a bunch of brainwashed people whom one has to pity.
Gorgoroth being nominated for an award? guess there's not much goin on in norway these days...
Blaaah or whatever his name is should stick to making sh**ty music and STFU
anti-christian...not satanist, you make some interesting points but we don't live in the dark ages anymore. You can't just go around destroying and burning up sh** that you don't like.
That would be cool though...
To those who didn't know, there are 2 types of Satanism...
There's LaVey Satanism, which is just self-worship...This is the pvssy sh!t that Manson joined, it really is poseur Satanism
Then there's the much older, original Satanism which is the worship of the fallen angel...This is what makes the world go around, this is what makes Varg burn churches, this is what made Jon Nodveidt shoot himself, what made Dead kill himself, and whats making Gaahl support the continuation of burning churches
That's just ill informed Azazel_Begotten, Varg has openly critisized Satanism many times aligning himself with the Odalists and Dead killed himself because he was depressed and was sick of life.
To say there are only two types of Satanism is a joke. Satanism is just a word, people often use it to shock and shroud deeper beliefs. I would ask you where you have read Gaahl stating he believes in a theistic Satanism because in the interview in A Headbangers Journey it seemed very much like a self impowerment philosophy.
"montheistic religions are fine when practiced by rational people but we got those jihadists doin there sh**"
Ha, Religion is the opposite of rationality. True believers are the extremists. Anyone else is a wishy-washy follower, if they truly believed they would die for their cause. But they don't because they are weak.
Satanism & Christianity are both retarded. There is no Devil & there is no God, as if some dude all in white is watching over everyone -.-' thats gay and the Devil some big red guy with horns and a tail livin underground, even more pathetic, but thats only my opinion....
i almost worshipped Satan once, but it was f*cking gay cuz Satan (whether you believe in him or not) cant do sh*t except make your life worse. some ppl think they can team up with him as a partner in crime but that just means youre a useless jar of powdered cuum
wow....where is everyone basing all these thoughts and facts from. That a$$hole is a hypocrite. He dosent like a religion because it brain washes people yet the satin bullsh** brained washed him. Im glad i dont beilive in hell cuz i dont have to deal with a$$holes like that guy
I'll say this much for Gorgoroth, they havent strayed one bit in sound or philosophy.
Gaahl is probably a sociopath, but society gives him alot of good reasons to be that way, with Christianity being at the top.
No other religion has gone to such extremes to subvert and convert like Christianity. They visit the third world bringing food and medical aid but part of the package is being introduced/inducted to Christ.
Christianity disrupts cultural balance in a fashion not unlike McDonalds proliferation of the world.
It's disgusting and disturbing.
Burning churches is cracked, but for the severly anti-christian it's a message of defiance that can't be ignored. It's like a kid throwing a tantrum in the toy section, only he's got a megaphone and shot gun.
If theres any logic to be found in his views, this is what I can relate to most.
"My family owns three mountains,"'There's not much else around there. Love of nature is a big part of black metal. It's easy to feel isolated in nature. And solitude and distance from everyone else is very important to us."
I just went jogging in the middle of nowhere for 2 hours in 17 degree weather @ 12:25 Am. It's nice to feel like you have the world to yourself.
As far as God, Satan, Odin, Allah etc. I'd like to think theres a benevolent higher force..But at the end of the day noone knows and one should live their life as they see fit.
I'm not being babysat by a bearded cloud tenant.
I treat others as I would have them treat me. To each their own and live and let live...blah blah blah...
I talk to much.
The structures bing burnt are part of Norway's history. I don't like Christianity, but I wouldn't destroy a centuries old structure such as the one Gaahl did. It's a specific style of architecture specific to that region of the world. Dumbass! Those old Churches look f***ing awesome! Seriously the look so damn cool. Finding the discussion on parallels between Nietzsche/Satanism fascinating.
Like i said a few posts ago, The pagans/black metalers see christianity as an invading force, so buring down a church that has stood for 500 years wont mean anything to them apart from, "we have just got a lot of attention on our "cause/belief".
I despise all organised religion because i see it as a mass brainwashing system, but have never felt the need to commit arson. I dare say if i had been brought up and gained the same beliefs that Ghaal and the rest have i would feel different.
"there is no excuse for destroying centuries of heritage and killing people. this guys an idiot."
cristian dumb-fuk burning a church is nothing compared to destroying entire civilizations burning human beings if you recall cristian history people have died in the name of "jesus" for not "believing" or wanting to believe in that fag i could go on and on with examples or unjust, corrupt and just plain bullsh**t the church has come up with!
