MP3.com Hosts Listening Party For Therion's Latest
In an exclusive partnership between Nuclear Blast Records and MP3.com, THERION's latest studio album, the dual-disc Gothic Kaballah, will be available for streaming in its entirety for seven days prior to the album's North American street date of February 6th.
Founded in Sweden over twenty years ago and rooted in death metal, Johnsson has since catapulted THERION to the outer reaches of progressive / classical rock music. In the band's recent cover feature in Metal Maniacs, Johnsson explains the stylistic shift for the album (which fans have come to expect) and how it is not "gothic" at all in the musical or image sense:
"It's completely different from anything else we've done. We had five writers working on this album; we only had three core band writers before, so that has expanded our horizons. We have also opted for more typically rock vocal styles. We are influenced by quite a lot of '70s bands like Uriah Heep and [even] have Heep's Ken Hensley [guesting on the album]. The title is a translation from Swedish and 'gothic' is the closest English word used to describe the Kaballah, so that's why we used it."
Gothic Kaballah will be available for streaming between January 30th and February 6th, 2007. Fans are encouraged to sign up for a free MP3.com account and participate in the "Press Pass: Your Take" function to write their own review.

Corey Taylor Comments On New Single, "Sillyworld"
Launch Radio Networks reports: Stone Sour's latest single, "Sillyworld", is one of the most experimental songs on the band's second album, Come What(ever) May, with fans saying it sounds a little like Pink Floyd. Lead singer Corey Taylor told Launch that he's heard the Floyd comparison and several more. "It's actually, you know, one of four bands that that song gets compared to, you know," he said. "There's the obvious Pink Floyd comparison. There's The Beatles. Somebody actually compared it to King Crimson, which I was like, 'What?' (laughs) But it was a song that Jim (Root, guitarist) brought in, that I immediately reacted to. I was like, 'Oh, I love this.' And it just became this really sweet, kind of old-school rock."
As previously reported, Stone Sour is headlining the latest installment of the Jagermeister Music Tour.
MSI vs. iTunes
Digital music giant iTunes has asked shock-rockers Mindless Self Indulgence to change the genre that they are filed under. MSI is currently filed with their distributor as 'Religious/Inspirational', apparently because of their 'devout' fan-base and 'cult-like' following (in the last year alone the band has shipped around 180,000 CD's).
This seems to have upset a few conservative Christian organizations, who have lodged complaints with iTunes to have the bands music removed from that category. Some Christians have even bought the offensive material apparently on faith, despite the fact that the material was clearly marked as being explicit. That MSI's album "You'll Rebel To Anything" sold quite well, reaching Number 27 on the iTunes Christian/Gospel charts, was the icing on the cake.
Jimmy Urine, vocalist for MSI, had this to say about the controversy: "It was iTunes, not us, that interpreted "religious" to mean Christian/Gospel. What is offensive to some people is obviously inspirational to others. To our fans this IS inspirational music. I have no intention of changing the genre listing of this album."
Find out what others are saying on their iTunes page at this location.
